Yeah I know this should be on another part of the forum but thought I would put it on here cos most of the traffic comes through this part of the site and I want to know if has anybody tried these at all Rotosound Black Nylon Strings If so are they any good, how do they play and sound do they last well? Or are there any other strings for a fretless bass that anybody can suggest??? Cheers

Are you talking about Tru Bass model? If so I tried 'em on a fretless and took 'em straight off! Massive thick gauge = extra high tension.Awful.Like liquorice!!. Have seen a bass in a shop once however that was fitted with some other brand of black nylon and they were a more standard gauge.Try stringbusters for their Galli strings.I think they do a black nylon.

That's the one's I just like the look of them as I am thinking of getting a fretless, (see my other post on this), and look kind of cool. But obviously looking cool isn't always good especially if you got to part with 30 or 40 squid, hence why I asked the question as to how they performed. Will have a look at those. Thanks for the reply!!

Was so flipped out by them that I now have Nylon wounds on one of my PRSs and on my Ovation semi. Those tho' are GHS Nylons as the tone lasts better and they come in smaller gauges....

I ilke them..... if you play Blues and early RnB as I do you may like them.... It helps having a valve driven pre amp tp play them through.... they have a certain something......

PS tried a set of Gallis.... I didnt like them..... if you like a fat un, Rotos are fine, if you prefer 45-100s GHS are better than Rotos.
These puppies....

My experience - LaBellas are the best "thick" ones, Roto's are ok for old school, but have weird intonation..but also a certain charm. For regular guage the Status ones sound very lively and lovely on fretless, but you'll have to raise the action a bit to compensate for their flexiness. Thomastik flats (not plastic or black) are my favourite fretless string, but look 'em up before you buy, as its a bit of a love/hate string.
