Wilco Posted August 14, 2011 Share Posted August 14, 2011 I've not tried one, but I believe the tuners on this bass model are now much improved on what they were. Not sure when this improvement happened, but my GL Jazz is a 2006 model & the tuners were definitely a weak point back then. I've seen other posts on the internet saying the same thing. I upgraded mine to Hipshot HB2 tuners, which was very simple to do as the screw holes line up perfectly to the originals! Pic attached:- Hipshots sourced from Bass Direct. They're 20:1 ratio rather than 16:1 for a start. Not that I've ever found Fender tuners to be problematic to honest, but if I was to replace (and I have done out of curiosity!) tuners on a Fender, or when building a bitza, it's these bad boys all day long. Certainly with my old tuners, they would stay in tune reasonably well, but you could turn them 360 degrees plus sometimes & it would make no difference to the pitch.
