I don't want to modify anything so I'm going for Seymour Duncan single coil, of which there are 3 kinds: SCPB-1 Vintage, SCPB-2 Hot and SCPB-3 Quarter Pound. I use Daddario Chromes flatwound and I like the mellow thump thing. But the original musicmaster pup is way too mushy. Looking for a more contemporary tone. If I had another musicmaster to upgrade I'd not hesitate to get another of these. My daughter's musicmaster has an exposed hot rails which is still punchy but more toppy in sound and although a perfect fit, doesn't look right to me - but she likes it. Now i have a choice of four! :-) I like the kent armstrong, I hadn't thought of a dual coil.
