bassplayer88 Posted January 13, 2011 Share Posted January 13, 2011 Due to an new upgrade in my bass system I no longer need this beautifully made custom crossover controller and associated crossover that I commisioned max from sfx to build me last year. This is a fantastic bi-amp system that allows totall controll over your fx allowing your bottom end to be consistent despite what whacky FX you might want to put on the top end of your signal. I have no proof but belive that the pedal I commissioned ( [url="http://www.sfxsound.co.uk/mainpage.asp?page=cstudy_3"]http://www.sfxsound.co.uk/mainpage.asp?page=cstudy_3[/url] ) was the inspiration for max's newish pedal X&M ( [url="http://www.sfxsound.co.uk/mainpage.asp?page=xm"]http://www.sfxsound.co.uk/mainpage.asp?page=xm[/url] ) albeit my pedal has many more useful features. It is essentially a dual DI aswell. An effects control centre if you will... Features, Fantastic handmade build quality and signal integrity throughout. 1) Switchable FX Loop for High end or ROS (rest of signal) path. 2) High (ROS) and Low (SUB) are switchable in and out, useful particually for dance music, play the high end the drop the sub in when the tune kicks in. 3) Mute switch mutes balanced (DI) outputs and amplifier output, but activates headphone output, useful if you need to cue your tone or playing silently before letting the audience hear it. 4) Ground lift and pad on balanced outputs like a DI. 5) Crossover allows two frequencys to be used one as a HIGH PASS and one as a LOW PASS, thus you can have a slight overlapping in frequencys of the two signals or a scoop (a hole in the tone) you may need this to allow other instruments through in a mix. 6) Constant tuner output 7) Ultra bright 4 coloured LEDS 8) Internal gain controls to create optimum signal level with the rest of your equipment. 9) Behringer Super X-Pro ( [url="http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/CX2310.aspx)"]http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/CX2310.aspx)[/url] and leads needed to hook it all up included. This is a really serious peice of kit and is very complex but essentially it was designed to make life easier for the bass player that uses fx. Why did you have the crossover input and outputs, and the seperate crossover unit, rather than have a crossover built into the pedal? Sorry, i'm not sure if i'm interested [/quote] Hi there are several reasons for having an external crossover: 1) Yes you can add extra effects before the crossover as an option. 2) The crossover converts the signal to a balanced signal essntially acting like a dual DI box. 3) Using the crossover you can set different frequency points allowing either an overlap or a "hole" in the middle of the frequency. For the project I designed this for I wanted a gap between the SUB up to 125HZ and the high end above 250HZ in which the bass drum and the other bassesque part (played by a wind synth?!!?) sat in the mix. The reason that the crossover needs to be in its own loop, rarther than just "outputted to" is to do with the way the cueing system works. I understand that the combo of rackmount and pedal isnt always practical for everyones set up but there was/is method in the madness...... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
