Hey gang.

I've an old usb midi keyboard. It works fine, except for the fact that the signal keep dropping out. you have to wiggle tthe usb cable and it comes back on, but if you bump the keyboard too hard it stops working.

Is there a simple fix for this? If you don't know, does anyone know of an electronics forum for simple fixes like this?

It's the B-type connector:

the middle one!

Cheers,

Replace the cable. If it still happens, then the next target of your attention should be the socket. Open her up and see what condition the soldering is in. Resolder, or replace the socket if necessary. It's not too difficult a job, the contacts are relatively far apart. I replaced the USB socket on a laptop motherboard once, it was fine.

Problem is, the keyboard is moulded and glued shut![/quote]

Are you sure there's nowhere to prise it apart? Failing that, either get creative with a dremel/cutting wheel or write it off :)
