1. I know these seem to be coming thick and fast lol, but I'm on catch-up. This is the third and most up-to-date episode in my bass vlog series (published yesterday). It's a hotly debated subject but in this video I give my thoughts on it. Let me know your thoughts... Enjoy, Scott.
 2. Good morning all! After 8 fun and successful years as a YouTube content creator, I have started to intersperse my regular bass lessons with a new vlog series where I talk more about concepts and issues surrounding our careers as bass players. Here's episode 2 of my new vlog series in which I hope to inspire others to get sharing their own work online. Give it a watch and let me know your thoughts on the subject - are you already sharing your content? Can you relate to the fears I talk about? I hope this video inspires you to start sharing your conent online, Scott.
 3. I'm back making free bass videos after a couple of years away. This lesson looks at a concept that will help speed up mastering certain elements of bass playing. Hope you enjoy it... Scott.
 4. Hi fellow basschatters! After 30 years of being 100% dedicated to all things bass-related, I lost my mojo and worried it was gone forever. Fortunately it has come back with a vengence and I thought it might be helpful to share my story for others possibly facing this in their own bass career. Here's the video...

 6. I made a new free bass lesson video yesterday entitled, "Slap Bass Library Lick 5 bass lesson by Scott Whitley - G7/C7 Lick" Unlike the 'usual' funk-in-open-E stuff, this is working G7 & C7 in more of a fretted position giving you some more musical slap bass vocabulary. It's a tough one to get your head (and fingers) around at first, but stick with it and let me know how you get on... Scott.

 12. Having a clearout.... Brand new & sealed set of La Bella Deep Talkin' Bass strings. .041 .058 .083 .106 Made in the USA Street price is £24.99 - bargain at £18!
 13. The much sought after Pandora PX4D. Excellent condition - even still has the strap attachment/adapter thingy. I've used this in most of my YouTube video lessons both as a preamp and as a drum machine. I know Marlowe DK also used the very same unit in all hist early videos. It's a great product - perfect for travel/practice etc. Features:

Incredibly realistic bass AND guitar amp/cab modelling
TONS os studio quality effects including compression; expander; reverbs; synth; wah; delays; choruses; pitch/octave - you name it, it's there...
Stereo Headphone out - doubles as a stereo/mono line out (auto switches depending upon lead used)
Built in drum machine
Phrase trainer
Aux input pitch shifter
Sad to see it go, but I do have a new unit I've started using (and am endorsing) so it's up for grabs... More about it here - https://www.gak.co.u.../korg-px4d/3746
 14. Having a big clearout after hooking up recently with GHS. Brand New & sealed Swing Bass 45-105 stainless steel roundwound long scale bass strings. I have 5 sets up for grabs. RRP it £29.99 but I'm selling these for just £11.99 per set or £50 for all 5 as a job lot (prices plus P&P) I doubt you'll find them nearly this cheap anywhere else so grab a bargain... 15.
What musical direction are you heading with it, Scott? (If you don't mind me being nosey )
Not at all. I played upright many years ago with initially a view to playing jazz, but inevitably got more into slapping the thing playing swing/jump/rockabilly stuff. This time round, it's more of a tone choice. I've turned down/lost sooooo many studio dates & gigs because they wanted upright (sometimes just on one album track but it means I lose the entire session) that I decided it's time to get another. I'll always be primarily an electric bass player I guess as I've spent so many years dedicated to it, but I'm working harder than ever this time round to be a 'proper' double bass player too. The wonders of YouTube - it's really helping me use the correct technique and posture this time round - last time I had to find my own way (certainly couldn't afford lessons back then, in fact I could barely make the monthly payments on the bass lol).
 16. Good day!! :-) I have TWO brand new and completely sealed sets (only purchased a few months ago) of Rotosound PSD 99 strings. Both are 4-Strings sets. The retail on them is pretty high and the cheapest street price I can find is £27.99 plus P&P. Here for the utter bargain price of £17.99 per set or £33 for both as a job lot. Thanks for Looking. Scott. Here's some more info - http://store.rotosou...tring-design-99

 19.
Good luck with the new bass mate. The new Spiros will make a big improvement over the factory strings. What gauge did you go, for just out of interest?
Cheers! It's GREAT! The Spiros arrived today (weich) and they have made a huge difference. The tone is stunning imho. Got the action lovely and playable too. Genuinely very pleased with it. :-)
 20. Hi there! Apologies for this taking such a long time, but finally it's here and live on YouTube. Enjoy... I've made a lot more of these free bass lessons over the past five years and you can find them all here - scott-whitley.com/free-bass-lesson-library/
 21. Good day! I shot this short video lesson yesterday all about giving notes their full value. It can help remove that unintentional 'stuttery' sound some you might experience and really smooths out your playing... Here's the vid - hope you enjoy it. :-)
 22.
Yeah, I would definitely agree. The bass in the classifieds here will have been played and setup etc. For the amount of cash you'd throw (away?) on the Archer plus setup something reliable will definitely turn as a private sale. Plus, you get the fun of trying different basses and chatting/hanging with bassists ;-) If there's any luthier close to you, ask them if they know of anything for sale or any bassists who might know. The Archer sounds pretty poor in the video - although the setup also looks poor to say the least. At the end of the day, "professional" basses aren't made in some Chinese factory and sold at that price. You might find a good one, but I'll bet my mortgage and both kids that the differing quality between the instruments will be considerable. I would avoid Gear for Music like the plague due to prior experience. I took a punt on ordering a cello (billed as advancing student model) for my daughter and had to send the original and it's replacement back to them as they arrived with serious problems resulting from piss-poor construction. One had a loose neck with a cracked block, the other had the table detached from the oversized bottom ribs. GFM promo at the time was "not made in some cheap Indian factory"..."work with European craftsmen"...Yeah, made in a cheap Chinese factory instead - said Yangtze River Music Company on the box! GfM were also extremely difficult when I asked for a refund instead of a further replacement, insisting that I had no idea what I was talking about and their products were top quality. Guy even denied they were cheap Chinese imports and claimed they were made in Europe.... These guys have a reputation for being crap-peddling cowboys for a reason ;-)
Hmmm. Sincere thanks for the input, but good or bad, I bought the Archer already - I'm very happy with my purchase so far but I guess time will tell...
 23. Thanks for the replies!! After a lot of searching around, I still had a good feeling about the Archer. I took a trip out yesterday and 1st tried the bass mentioned in Leeds, which was very nice and the chap selling it is a diamond (highly recommend). I then carried on to York to check out the G4M Archer. They had several DBs out on display (none setup properly so you have to see through that). After playing them all, the Archer REALLY stood out with tone to die for, even with the sh*t factory strings and a mile high action. I said if I bought it, I wanted that actual bass which turned out was no problem. They even brought a few more basses out of the warehouse, unboxed them and let me compare so I could pick the best one! They all sounded great although it did look like the boxed ones were from a completely different builder/factory!! The guy I dealt with did me a great price and with their 30 day no quibble money back guarantee and two year warranty I was actually very impressed. Anyways to cut to the chase I purchased the original display one and am one very happy bassist right now!! :-). Getting her setup this morning with Spirocores. Will report in after a little time to let you know how it's working out... Thanks again sincerely for all the input here.
 24. I've played this actual instrument and it's a lovely bass, in great condition and sounds beautiful - bags of tone. berniesheahan's a top chap to boot.
