1. I've lent my amps/cabs and borrowed others on many occasions during multiple band type events - mainly punk/reggae/ska mini festivals. For this type of gig life is so much simpler if the bass gear and majority of the drums are shared. I know that a change over between bands should only take 10 mins but it rarely does and the gig goes a bit dry if each band has to sound check in full. Bear in mind these types of gigs rarely have fantastic sound engineers that can successfully tailor the sound on the fly. Any loan of gear is based on the understanding that if it is misused you may well see me onstage either unplugging you or turning a few knobs and if any abuse continues then said bass player will be exiting stage left with my foot up his/her backside. No negotiating. Horses for courses though, the types of gig you play should help inform your choice of amp and the risks involved.

3.
The first thing that springs to mind is one of the pins have dropped a connection. Could be a messy job checking it on a combo.
Cheers for the input, I had the amp out of the case last night and there was nothing obviously wrong. Time for a visit to a tech.
4. Was messing around with this amp yesterday http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=87249. Everything works fine except for the Balanced DI output which appears to be stone dead. Any thoughts as to how to repair it? Something simple or a job for a tech?
5.
My first proper amp was a BLX 130. It still belongs to a mate of mine. Had a nice enough tone, not huge amount of volume though. Never quite saw the point of a heavy, 130 watt amp - louder than needed for practicing and too quiet to compete with a drummer, although I suppose it would do well in an acoustic based band.
I tended to use it for gigs where there was a PA for the band to go through, was always loud enough as a stage monitor. Agree about the weight, it's a real back breaker.
6. Following on from this thread http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=85583 I'm reconnecting with some of my old bass gear. Lurking in the garage under a dust sheet (bin bag) is this fella: I seem to remember these causing all sorts of arguments when new mainly due to the cab design. I bought this in the early 90s if memory serves me correctly. Is there a market for roadworn/relic'ed amps? If not there should be.
7.
Are you selling that little rascal? could possibly be interested if you are, maybe I'd be better getting my own lerrus know ATB W
Not looking to sell thanks matey, I'll use this in place of the guitar combo I was practising with. Cheers all the same.
8. Plugged it in and everything works fine, one of the pots is a little scratchy but that is disappearing with use. Could do with a proper clean. Regarding the sound (obviously a very subjective area) but it is much 'bigger' than a typical 30W practise amp, not necessarily louder if you get what I mean.
9. A couple of 1x10" cabs here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=85583
10.
you forgot it was there...??????????????
Yep. Only seriously getting into bass again recently after a break from bands in general and rhythm guitar duties before that. The amp got shoved in the loft when I moved into the house about 7 years ago and I practically forgotten it existed prior to that. Out of sight, out of mind I guess.
11.
Are they 2 1x12 cabs. Looks menacing though. Fire it up and see what it sounds like please.
Both cabs are 1x10". When I was 16 it sounded like the best bass amp in the world ever, 21 years later and it may not be quite so impressive. I'll give it a go at the weekend, will take a while to clean up first.
12. I was hunting around in the loft earlier this week for some vinyl which I'd shoved up there a few years ago and found my old Marshall 3505 Micro Stack, the same as this one... I'd completely forgotten I owned this, bought it around '89 I think. Not sure what to do with it, I reckon it'd be an interesting piece of furniture in the lounge but the wife isn't so keen. Found a Jim Dunlop bass wah too but I don't even remember buying that.
13. My late 80s/early 90s Fender P-Bass Plus (or Boner Bass if you prefer) has a 1.625" nut and PJ pick-ups. Occasionally see these for sale on ebay.
14. I reckon that with all the media outlets available via the web now is a great time to be in an original band. If the songs are good enough you have a great opportunity to get them 'out there' whilst remaining fairly anonymous, my receding hairline and wideneing beltline mean that I won't be posing on the front of any cd covers and looking daft trying to compete with the younger generation who (quite rightly) need the image angle more than a seasoned (old) musician. I agree with loads in this thread, I've been on a musical holiday for a few years following an intense 10 years or so in original bands with euro tours etc, once the family comes along and you need a better job to pay the bills then the this has to be a priority, no arguments there. I too struggle with the thought of a covers/tribute outfit but fancied geting back into writing/playing so had a quick look on joinmyband.co.uk . The upshot is I've found a guitarist and drummer with similar tastes looking to start a band locally to me along the same lines as what I was thinking. Early days yet but am looking forward to getting back in the rehearsal studio. Time is a killer, no idea how I'm going to find the extra hours needed but I will do, at least when you're a bit older you can expect your fellow bandmates to have the ability to practise properly and be prepared. Unlike in the old days when the drummer would turn up for rehearsals drunk and the guitarist would forget to bring at least one piece of vital eqiuipment! Wouldn't change it though...
15. USA early 90s P-Bass Plus. Couldn't ever imagine selling this one. Could do with a clean though.
16. Love this song. For me, groove is all about making you want to hit the dancefloor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kJAL6XbGP8
17. Did a small festival type gig many years ago set in a rugby club's grounds and somehow my P-Bass didn't get packed up with the rest of the band's gear. The excuse was that it was pitch black and I was otherwise engaged with a young lady hence not around to check my own stuff was packed properly. I didn't realise it was gone until about a month later as all the band equipment was put into storage before heading off for another few gigs. Once I'd discovered that it wasn't with the rest of the equipment I was obviously pi**ed off but put it down to experience, I let the festival promoter know what had happened but didn't hold out much hope. A year later I got a phone call from the promoter saying they had found the bass! The old chap that ran the clubhouse at the rugby club was retiring and having a clearout when he found the bass, luckily he still had the promoter's number and let him know what he'd found. Incredibly the promoter called me straight away to arrange collection, he knew it was worth a few quid but was happy to do the right thing. Lucky me!

Hi Folks

Hi All, I've thoroughly enjoyed reading through the posts on this site so thought I'd sign up. I'm 37, based in Stoke and have been playing bass since I was about 14 although not for about the last 6 years as I was on rhythm guitar duties before stopping playing altogether for a while. I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of things but have no idea what direction to take, covers bands or tribute bands leave me cold so it may just be lessons/self improvement/theory etc. for now as I can't see myself being dedicated enough to get back into or starting a band based on original material. Time is usually taken up with work and a young family, I'm sure lots on here are in the same boat. Current setup is a 1990 US Fender Precision Plus which I bought new and a Trace combo gathering dust in the garage, never been much of a gear-head but have loved my P Bass since the day I had it and never felt the need to get rid of it (although I did lose it for a year!). Looking forward to joining in and soaking up as much knowledge as possible. Cheers, Paul
