There is a really nice looking re issue 62 P up for sale on E bay, I know that the fullerton re issues are supposed to be good but i thought it was just 82 and 83 really....Whats your opinion on these fullerton re issues? I've been after a vintage P for ages but haven found the right one, would it be a mistake to buy a RI?

This has probably been posted a million times so feel free to point me to an old thread! :)

2. This is my absolute dream bass! Since I first started playing it's been all about a 60's P bass in Lake Placid Blue.....

Unfortunately I have nothing to offer PX....If you ever end up selling let me know....

Good luck with it, it's nice reading about a bass that has such personal significance to you

3. Hey guys, been watching this bass for a few days and watching the price drop.....I emailed the guy for some more info on what i thought was a refin but he says is not?! serial no. on neckplate, apparently plays well with no fret wear....Scratch plate looks like a bad fit...is this normal on old fenders?
Check out the pics.....Any advice would be appreciated!

4.
Hi,

I tried the Tru Bass Strings.. PERFECT.. nice warm, big warm acoustic style sound style sound. The bigger flat strings was the best choice for the Aerodyne bass and a complete different sound to the other jazz which has a more vintage vibe with balls.

I like the idea of the Aerodyne for the Groove old skool, or folky, acoustic style and the relic for the pop, rock, and modern stuff.

And I'm getting the Terror Bass on sunday..

Good times :)
terror bass?!!

5. Just did a bit of research and found this;

'American Deluxes produced between 1995 and 1999 were initially available with "single-pole" pickups designed by John Suhr. These were soon changed to the Bill Turner-designed dual-coil Ceramic Noiseless units with nickel-plated (gold-plated on certain models) polepieces until the advent of the Bill Lawrence-designed Samarium Cobalt series in 2004.'

From Wiki admittedly but might shed a little light on why my pups were single pole?!

6. Good news!!
I ordered some 64's from Andy at Wizard today...hoping to have them by friday....also ordered a Gotoh replacement bridge just cause i hate the standard one.....

Fingers crossed this will help...should certainly improve the overall sound i would think??

RE someone swapping the pickups, i guess it is a possibility....I actually bought the bass out in LA and brought it home with me, it was brand new with all the usual garb that accompanies them...someone could have done in the shop i guess? odd thing to do eh?

No one told me that the noiseless were newer, i just presumed....haven't done much research so i just thought that the single poles were a trait of that series....

curiouser and curiouser!

Also thanks for the offer of borrowing pickups, appreciate it.....however as i say i decided to dive in and buy some wizards.....will keep you posted as to whether they are a success!

7. Thanks for the response guys, appreciate it....
Al, Definitely not 2 bridge pickups, pulled them out and checked today...Have also got the treble end of the pickup raised high..
I have no qualms about disrupting it's 'vintage', it's a mex and is my workhorse bass, just want it to sound as good as possible..

Stacker, i too have not seen a J bass with single poles since it's purchase some 12 years ago....clearly it was a brief and unsuccessful experiment!

I am going to call Wizard Pickups and get some 64's fitted i think as i tend to play with flats on it....any idea whether this will be suitable for an active deluxe?
If it still isn't right i think i'm going to investigate a replacement bridge.....any recommendations? Badass or Gotoh etc? not sure of the difference if I'm honest!

8. I have been having a lot of problems with the output from the G string on my MIM Fender J Deluxe....the bass was bought and made in 98 when they still came with the single pole pickups. Ever since i've had it I've had an issue as it seems that the strings don't really line up with the poles on the pickups!

Anyway...I was wondering whether you guys think the output problem might be due to the pickups? although it's fine on E A and D...
It is a great bass otherwise and i've had loads of compliments on the sound over the years....

If it is the pickups is it worth replacing them with the newer fender vintage noiseless? or should i maybe replace the pre amp with a J retro or something?

Any help appreciated, especially if you've heard of this problem before!

9. Anyone know if there are any dealers in the South East that stock a decent range of Moog pedals?
specifically the MF-101 low pass filter and the bass murf....

Dave

10. Ah that makes more sense. thanks Jack.

Yes unfortunately they were selling it as a lakland...even when i questioned some of the build and components they stood firm...are they selling it on behalf of you? maybe have a word!

TBH just this evening i've seen a 2nd hand Lakland 55-01 for £635 which i might go for....need to convince to part with my GB first tho!
(Whilst i'm aware this makes me sound like a lunatic unfortunately i need the extra GB money for a new laptop)! damn money!

11. Ok so i was in Denmark St yesterday and wandered into Wunjo's for the first time. They had a lakland which caught my eye, it played pretty well as well. However, even on close inspection i couldn't figure out the model or year etc... (no one in the shop seemed to know either)!

It looks to me as if the controls are modified but otherwise looks pretty straight up.

What do you guys make of it? any info you can give me?

Dave

12. Hey guys..

I was just wondering if anyone on here owns or has played both an MTD Kingston and one of the handmade USA ones?
A friend of mine has recently bought a USA one and said its amazing! IS there a huge difference between that and the Kingston series sound and quality wise?

Also if anyone has one for sale let me know, as you might have seen o currently have my GB Spitfire 5 string up on the for sale page....

Dave

13. OK guys i'm new here....
And i thought what better way to get to know people than offering something......(for a certain price of course)!

I Am looking to sell my GB Spitfire.
I've had the bass for about 2 and a half years and have done some amazing work with it, but the temptation for something new has come calling and this is the only bass i have which doesn't have any genuine personal value!

The bass is a beautiful example of Bernie's work, with the usual crazy on board eq (and flashing l.e.d to let you know how much battery life you have left)!

There are one or two minor dings on the bass, (on the back and near the strap lock) as would be expected from something that has been used well...no serious ones though.

I'm looking for [s]£1500[/s] £1400 for it.
Feel free to get in touch if you want to come and try the bass...

Let me know what you guys think!

Dave
