1. Evening,

An old friend of mine is retiring from his band and he's tapped me up to possibly replace him.

As they are a grunge/alt-rock covers band, about half the set is in either C or C# tuning and I've opted for getting a four string to deal with these particular songs (did have a 5 string but just couldn't get on with it!), have been looking around for appropriate strings and have come across the DDT range from DR.

Just wondered if anyone used these before?

    Cheers

    Dan

  2. Got mine back in may before the deal with getting the free cab...bugger...

Here's my review of it from when I first got it from Andertons and some additional info now I've gigged it!

Had a good half hour to play around with the various settings on this amp and was impressed with how good my bass sounded through it, not a transparent sound as such, the amp does have it's own sound so to speak but I could definitely hear more of the character of my bass. I could dial in anything from a "scooped" funk tone to a good approximation of a "classic rock" tone, the Spectracomp, Tubetone and Tweetertone control dials are well set out, user friendly and obviously you can add to your taste.

After playing a few gigs with it recently, found that if you want to change settings on the fly as already mentioned in the earlier posts, it is very easy and straightforward.

I opted for the 2x12 cab which is great, first time I'd played through 12" speakers and they don't half move some air!
Though i am saving up to add the 2x10 cab as I've missed having the slightly more defined sound that comes from 10" speakers.

The head and cabs aren't lightweight but are considerably less than say my old Ashdown and TE rigs.

All in all, very happy with it!

  3. Just been checking out Dave's YouTube channel...some good vids on there...on a different note has anyone else noticed that in the latest edition, one of the pics of Ben Kenney (Incubus) was one of the ones they used for Troy Anthunes a few months ago...tsk tsk!
I've never been more hooked than when Dirty Den got shot by a bunch of Daffs!

    More please!
What they said!

  5. After reading about the current line up in Classic Rock Presents Prog and remembering the guitarist in my very first band banging on about 'em, I've downloaded/am listening to the "Best Of" and "Once Around The World" by It Bites...and I have to say I'm really rather liking some of their stuff!

  6. I use the iRig adaptor and Amplitube (the free version) on my iPad, I'd originally downloaded both this app and the GK free one, initially preferred the GK one but I've got to say the tone is not as good as what you get from the Amplitube app which I've found it to be fairly close to what sound I used to get with my Boss ME50B.

Yes, you do have to copy over any songs you want to play along with, unlike the GK app where it literally is plug in and play but once you get used to it, it's a very useful tool IMHO with the various features already mentioned in the other posts.

The iRig adaptor cost me £23 (off of Amazon) and was a tenner cheaper than most of the headphone amps!

    Modern technology, marvellous!

  7.
IMHO you could do no worse than taking a look @ the BH500/210 rig from TC Electronics and it also will fit your budget easily even brand new. you could always add another cab later for the full oomph.

I've just picked one up as a back up to my Staccato and it's absolutely awesome! Not as lightweight as the RH stuff but half the price and not at all heavy really in fact its definately sooooo much lighter than the Ashdown stuff you mentioned earlier. Don't forget with all the extras like spectracomp and tubetune and you probably won't need to use the other pedals either so less to carry!

Mark @ Bass Direct also says it's the best bang for the buck too http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...0+Cabinets.html :)

    Hope this helps
Thumbs up for the BH500, great amp and a great price - though I plumped for the 2x12 cab instead of the 2x10!

  8. For the first time in 20 years of playing I've actually gone and tried an amp in a shop, popped into Andertons in Guildford this morning with a drummer friend of mine and tested the Tc Bh500, liked it so much I bought it there and then!

First impressions were very good, not a transparent sound as such but I can hear more of the character of my Spector than I did with my old Ashdown and that was with both the bass and amp set flat.

Have been playing with it since I got home a few hours ago and while not as versatile as the rh450 , I'm very happy with the sounds I can dial up.

Cracking piece of kit and definitely value for money!

  9. There are some decent apps coming available now, just got an iRig last week and am using both the Gallien Krueger one and the Amplitube one which has a track slowing feature, bloomin' marvellous!
