1. Pretty much anything that Brian Cook has played on - These Arms Are Snakes (in particular the new album, 'Tail Swallower and Dove'), the latest Russian Circles album 'Station', 'We Are the Romans' by Botch and 'Time & Withering' by Mouth of the Architect are all brilliant. Jeff Caxide from Isis is another great bass player as well, as is Troy Sanders of Mastodon, I'd recommend anything by either of those two bands. Also, +1 for The Mars Volta, 'Day of the Baphomets' is probably their standout track bass-wise.

  2. Again, I didn't know Steve, but it's never good to hear news like this. Steve would have been the same age as my dad - pretty unbelievable when I think about it like that as it really is such a young age to go. RIP Steve, and my deepest condolences to your family.

  3. I would have filled my pants if I'd been in the middle of a Jam song only to find that two of them were standing there watching. Thanks for the heads-up on the Hammersmith gig as well.

Slightly OT, but how are the Water Rats Studios? I've been looking at local rehearsal rooms and the info on their website looks promising, but it'd be interesting to hear from someone who has actually used them. Although I guess if they're good enough for the Jam, they'll be good enough for a rank amateur like me :)

  4.
The was a guy over on Talkbass, who is from this side of the pond, who does solo bass stuff. I seem to remember a picture of him playing a Warwick Vampyre in a shopping centre.
I think he's a member on here as well, I remember reading about it/seeing the photos. I'll see if I can find the thread...

  5. I missed Rose Kemp when she (you?) played with Oceansize in London last year, thanks to whatever idiot decided it'd be good to have gigs inside a shopping centre, so I may very well be at the Guildford date (if only to see the Rickenblacker in the flesh).
