1. Thanks all - I will maybe do this sometime soon! I appreciate everybody's help (and it has been truly helpful).

I've used it at a gig and rehearsal now and the driver actually does seem to be fine - you simply cannot hear the vibration at those levels. The tech basically said to me considering the nature of the vibration, either the driver will be fine and the noise could actually go away completely because the driver will compress any gaps around the dome, or it will completely fall apart and so far it seems to just hold up fine, so I will probably attempt something like Copydex or simple glue like Mr. Fitzmaurice suggested if the vibration stays for a while (or obviously gets worse).

At that kind of stage, I'll possibly have to replace the driver anyway so if I mess it up it won't be a biggie :)

  2.
Bernie is the sole distributor of EBS gear in the UK. Bernie is your man. If you contact EBS direct, in most cases they will direct you to Bernie as well!
Yeah, I'm going to see him tomorrow and see what comes out of it. I'm going to prepare myself for an expensive fix :) have had very useful PM's, and at least it sounds like I'll find a way of fixing the situation somehow.

  3. Hi all,

There is some chance that my EBS 1x12 Neo has developed an irritating problem with the driver :) basically, there is a slight buzzing noise being generated between the dome and the cone of the driver (excuse if I mix terms up) which happens after about 1/3 or so of master volume (I use a MarkBass SA450, and the ratings by and large match up). In the words of the technician who checked my cabinet, you probably wouldn't hear it very well at gig volume but you would (and audibly can) at bedroom level.

I've already called Bernie Goodfellow about it, but I was just wondering if there was any place that sells the EBS Neo drivers (obviously the 300 watt 8 ohm one specifically, ideally)? Bernie will hopefully help me sort it all out but obviously every little helps in this situation. I will probably have to buy a new driver as I'm actually the second owner, but only of about a week or so  :) :) i

  4. Believe it or not, he is actually around the Shoreham-by-Sea (even Brighton area) quite a great deal, and I woudn't be surprised if you could work out a way of meeting him personally. He has done jazz clinics in Shoreham Ropetackle centre (which I bloody missed due to being away) so it's definitely possible!

  5. Hi all!

This is short and sweet - I may be selling my Ampeg 4x10HLF soon, including a proper amp cover! It has one or two small tolex rips at the back which are practically unavoidable, especially considering I've been using this cabinet for over four years now. It is indeed a proper USA made cabinet and literally looks almost brand new (especially the front). Needless to say, with most amps it is literally impossible to run out of headroom with this cabinet! It is frighteningly loud and sounds seriously great at the same time. With my MarkBass SA450 I have not heard much louder combinations - tube, or solid state - and had enough volume for any situation. As some people may know already it also has a variable tweeter which can get you some very un-Ampeg-ey tones - in fact, as a whole, I really feel this cabinet is truly versatile and on both original writing bands and function bands I never really found it that hard to find different tones I needed.

I think a price of £400 is very fair considering its very good condition and the fact it comes with a cover. I'm based around the Brighton area (Shoreham-by-Sea) and it goes without saying really that this is collection only  . However, I may be able to arrange collection from my girlfriend's gaffe in Kent if that would make it any easier for potential buyers, or maybe other arrangements can be made via PM.

I will put pictures up ASAP and I will also confirm its feeler status very soon :) PM me if you have any questions.

    Thanks for reading!

  6.
Staple suggestion is a good one! Alternatively could it be the internal speaker lead vibrating against the driver? Can you hear anything moving if you pick the cab up and give it a really good shake? Try turning it upside down or on its back and playing and seeing if the noise happens then.
Bingo!!!

I took the crossover off at the back and wiggled the red/black speaker leads and it *seems* to be something related to the speaker wires. I don't have a great deal of wiggle range but it does seem to do something when the clicking gets a little less worse, so I'm almost certain now the speaker is fine (I really didn't see any reason why it wouldn't be). Phew! Now I'll get the technician to have a look and see what needs moving out of the way.

    Cheers Alex!

  7.
When that happened to me it was a staple from the insulation material that had come loose and attached itself to the magnet (still took me bloody hours to find it though).

Hope it's that simple for you mate

This is exactly the kind of freak incident I've been thinking (and hoping) it is. It looks like a pretty simple cabinet to disassemble at least, so hopefully it won't take eons to find out what it is.

    Cheers for your help!

  8. Hi there Alex,

I've just bought an EBS Neo 1x12 and it is a really nice speaker. However, I've noticed that after about 1/3 master volume a weird slight vibration/clicking noise seems to happen. I've taken the grille off and it doesn't seem to be that vibrating and I've tried pressing down the screwed down edge of the driver, tweeter, handles, corners etc. and that doesn't seem to do anything. I haven't taken it out to rehearsal/gig yet, but it's the weird kind of noise that you probably wouldn't notice in the context of a gig but I can hear it playing at bedroom level.

The only things that I can seem to think of are a) the driver is breaking (which I would find really surprising, as the actual 'sound" and the power handling just don't seem to be affected at all) or :) there is something loose round the back of the speaker/knocking around near the port. It sounds like it's coming from the cone itself, but as you can appreciate it's extremely hard to differentiate as it's all coming from seemingly the same area. When I bought this used, I tested it fairly thoroughly and I did not hear this noise at all. All I'd like to know really is if the driver is okay as that's the only 'doomy' conclusion.

Any other thoughts on this? I'm probably going to get my girlfriend's studio technician to have a look and get him to confirm what the problem is (or even if there is a problem at all!?). I'm using a MarkBass SA450 through it, so power handling wise it is literally the exact right ratings (both 300 watts output/intput at 8ohms).

  9. Coming from the owner of a black 44-01...

    Dayamn.

Those blue 44-01/55-01's look lovely! I bought my one with disregard to colour because I specifically was not caring for looks and caring for sound and playability, but I have still thought it would have been nice to have some other colour option (the standard sunburst and natural 44-01/55-01 finishes are also lovely too, but alas they didn't have any of those when I bought mine).

Edit: Although when I have had the instrument for quite a few years, I will definitely consider giving it a 'birthday' refinish :)

  10. I'm really confused - how did you find that page if it hasn't appeared on the product index on the main website?

And I'm going to possibly put my reputation on the line here by saying that I could really see myself owning that :) WHAT a passionate looking instrument! I think it is probably a bit over the time for what some people want in aesthetics, but I personally really love it.

  11. I'm sure Andre will not mind me chipping in, but I've seen this particular bass in person and it really does look as a good as in the pictures - no joke.l It just looks unspeakably lush (down to that incredible neck joint!) and I genuinely only noticed the filled in knots when he pointed them out to me, and even then they just seemed to look part of the finish. I really wouldn't have noticed otherwise.

  12. Hi there mate!

As far as I am aware, you can't actually get a specific cover for this amp (aftermarket or MarkBass)! However, on a quick glance the covers you can get for the Standard 104HF would probably fit as the cabinet dimensions are pretty much the same, but I couldn't confirm for example if the handles would line up. Some aftermarket makers could probably modify the original Standard 104HF cover design slightly so that the handles would line up too. http://www.pianocoversonline.co.uk/ are also superb for amp covers but there are few other good ones too.

If you have any more questions then please do not hesitate to ask :)

  13.
These are the knobs that were on it when I bought it new, I haven't upgraded them. Perhaps Lakland was having a stock clearout day...?
For some reason quite a lot of the 55-01's come with those knobs brand new! What makes it more confusing is that some of them come with metal knobs like all of the 44-01's...a mystery.

And a seriously lovely bass as well - have got a 44-01 myself so it's definitely not lost on me!
