If they do then I'm definitely putting SDGR on the list. I generally love Ibanez basses, but I bloody hate that logo.

Another example of how to make a perfectly good instrument look cheap and tacky.

On this subject, 'RockBass' by Warwick. I have one - but for a 'boutique' bass brand, The name and logo are incredibly childish.

  2. Just had a look at the prices of a certain, well known, Bass shop in London. Astonishing really how prices have ramped right up of late. I know the reasons why (in theory) but I doubt the people trading these basses in, saw any more money in return. There's a MIJ Marcus Miller up for £1550! I sold mine last year for £750!

That was quick - an almost instant reply....

"I think the price point will be slightly higher than the NG-2 basically, but I will let you know once I have a solid answer."

I think they probably mean the NG-3 rather than the NG-2, so we're looking about £2k I would think.

That's really not that bad at all! (Relative of course).

  4. One Hot Minute by Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Dark, brooding and psychedelic and coming from a bad place, featuring, IMO, Anthony's best lyrics he's ever written, tackling some really heavy stuff (for once). Along with Uplift Mofo, it's my favourite Chili Peppers album.

I think it's s*** on a bit, as unfortunately, there seems to be a bit of the 'cult of Frusciante' around the band, and anything with him not playing on, (in this case Dave Navarro) seems to be derided, completely forgetting dear Hillel was the OG.

    I really quite enjoyed this.

Contrary to other opinions in this thread, I think they are writing EXACTLY the music they want to write, without a thought of what makes money.  All they need to do is release another BSSM album and the old fan base would go wild, but instead they're doing this.

I wish they wouldn't, I wish they would find the love for that raw funk again, but I don't think John especially will ever be in that place again.  Given how close he was to losing his life to drugs, it's probably not a headspace he's keen to get back into again.

I want them to release another Uplift Moto Party Plan!

  6. It's bang average - like 'Unlimited Love' as an album.

I really don't like this modern template they adhere to, Kiedis trying to sing, big choruses - verse, chorus, verse, chorus, solo.

Another thing I really notice is the production. It's super powerful and clean, yet weirdly empty. They need to dirty up the mixing and mastering process. It suits their chaotic sound (as a live band) a lot more.

  7. Brand new, sealed.

Here we have my EMG BTS 2 band preamp. This was supposed to go onto my old Modulus Flea Bass, but since I've sold that, I have no use for this.

    EMG blurb ;

The BTS Control is a 2-band equalizer for Bass guitar. The BTS features single-pole filters for broadband equalization. Often the broader single-pole filters are preferred for musical instruments because they are less selective, easier on the ear, and sound more “musical”. One of the features of the BTS Control is a 2-position dip-switch that controls the slope of the high frequency response. By choosing one of the four combinations the high frequency response can be tailored to your liking. The BTS Control has a high input impedance and can be used with active or passive pickups. Bass and Treble controls are mounted on a concentric shaft and knobs are included.

    IN THE BOX

2 CONTROL KNOBS, 2 EXTRA KNOBS, OUTPUT JACK, AND BATTERY CLIP SET.

  8. Brand new in box and sealed.

This was supposed to go onto my Modulus Flea bass, but has become surplus to requirements since I sold the bass.

These are currently out of stock at EMG.

    Blurb from EMG ;

The MMHZ is a direct replacement for the original Music Man bass pickup. This passive pickup features a ceramic and steel humbucker design for low noise and plenty of output. This bass pickup has the punch and fullness of a traditional passive with added top end for a more defined tone. The five pin connector allows multiple wiring combinations so you can get both dual-coil and single-coil tone with simple switching. Each pickup is fully shielded for a minimum of noise.

    IN THE BOX

PACKAGE INCLUDES EMG'S EXCLUSIVE SOLDERLESS INSTALL SYSTEM:

    1 250K VOLUME POT
    1 250K TONE POT
    1 MONO OUTPUT JACK
    2 PAIR MOUNTING SCREWS
    1 BRIDGE GROUND CONNECTOR
    1 PICKUP CABLE
    2 CONNECT CABLES
    1 OUTPUT CABLE
    1 BRIDGE GROUND WIRE "

  9. As other people are alluding, when you actually stop to ponder it, considering the work that went into them and the materials used, Status were/are amazing value, especially compared to other UK bass brands that shall remain nameless.

I'm really glad that I got to meet Rob and Dawn when picking up my first Graphite neck for my Stingray and look around the workshop. Real UK bass history, right there. As I left, Dawn remarked to me that I should "come back soon and order one of the proper ones". I'm sad I'll never get to do that as it was on my list!

The most important thing is that Rob Green stays well, that almost goes without saying. But what a loss to the industry! I've got a Streamline bass that I had made for me a while ago and it's a superb bass.  A unique design with a sound to match. I've had other Status basses and they were all very enjoyable.

In a bass manufacturing world of vintage- fixated retrogression, Rob's basses are uncompromisingly modern, and refreshingly original with their own identity.

It's the end of an era.  Never mind Status Graphite, I remember reading the review of the Rob Green Strata Bass in Sounds magazine. That must be 40 years ago. I also remember seeing that actual bass for sale secondhand in the Bass Center in about 1987.

Rob Green retiring also raises the question, if you want to buy a new bass with a graphite neck who would make you one? According to some folks on Talkbass, Zon are hopelessly back-ordered and unable to deliver completed instruments within a reasonable time frame. I am scratching my head trying to think of other options.

Modulus and Zon are the only ones that spring to mind. Maybe Bogart?

  11. I've experimented with all gauges over the years, settling on 40-95.

IMO, gauge makes zero difference to tone. My 35-95's were just as powerful and bassy as a standard 45-105 set.

You could get a slightly twangier tone if needed, due to the pliability of them, but IMO, Wrap material, core construction, etc, are the real sources of tonal differences.
