2.
hello, i was wondering if someone in the know can help me out. I've been offered one of these in a trade: http://www.dv247.com/guitars/fender-americ...al-maple--41165 Just wondering what they are worth? From the pictures I've seen, it's mint/unused with case tags etc. I'll be looking to flip it on, so want to make sure the trade value of it is in line with what I can potentially have to sell it for. cheers G
Around £950 i'd say

 7.
GHS Bass Boomers at the moment. I buy whatever is on offer and only change strings once every few years, so won't claim to be any kind of expert!
ahh ok tar
 8.
I've had mine ten years and it's given a good acount of itself. A slim, fast neck, active, twin humbuckers. Excellent value!
awesome! just as a matter of interest what strings do you use? im trying to find a set that will last a long time and keep their tone :/
 9.
Can't believe I'm doing this but needs must. I only just got this from Jimmy Elliott in a trade. It's the nicest sounding Stingray I've ever played, the mahogany body and through body stringing seem to smooth out the sound somehow but still enable you to get down and dirty should you wish it. It's pretty close to mint, if I'm really picky (and those who've dealt with me in the past will know how anal I am about bass condition) the 5 ply scratch plate could do with a buff has it has a few swirlies, the machines could do with a polish and there's a bit of NiO deposit on the pole pieces. None of these would take more than an hours 'cleaning' to enable perfection to be restored. The C&G vintage 30th Anni case is also in pretty good nick with just a couple of small marks. So why am I thinking of parting with it. Well, it's not the lightest bass I've ever played, it comes in a shade under 10lbs and despite my love for it after an hour it's killing my old neck injury. I've just got to face up to the fact that I need to stick with well balanced basses less than 9lb in weight (in comparison my Overwater and Status feel like toys). So ideally as a trade I'd be looking for something <9lbs, in the same condition as the Ray, 4 strings, fretted and of a similar value. Something Jazz shaped and a bit special (Sad Metro, Lakky, WHY) would be great but I wouldn't rule out something with graphite. Hit me with some options the worst I can do is respond in the negative. If there's interest I'll post some pics but it looks 'exactly' like this:
sorry i'm an idiot, trade only my bad

 11.
A Washburn XB-400 was my first bass. I still have it and still play it regularly. Now I have seen how cheap they are secondhand, I'm hanging on to mine!
would you agree that they are actually surprisingly good!
 12. Hey people, after i get my new bass i will be looking to sell my Washburn xb120. Yes they are very affordable bass's however i reckon they are massively over looked for beginners. In all of the reviews i have seen for this bass people have praised it for its great tone. Another thing people said is that 'Affordable' does not mean you sacrifice quality. My bass is in very good condition but it has the odd tiny tiny dent but the finish is still perfect. Ill probably be asking around 100 quid for it, and ill wack on my old set of elixirs for you aswell. let me know if you may be interested cheers (p.s mine is electric blue)
 13.
I don't get a point, what you're trying to say.. Wattabout bass, it all comes to personal taste - yep, there maybe were better looking Prestiges out there (mine, for example.. ), but, from the playing and quality view - it's a cracking bass.
i'm just saying it is a pretty expensive piece of kit for a young guy
 14.
My first bass when I was 17 years old was a brand Rickenbacker 4001. My dad put a great deal of the money towards it; he's been a musician all his life and his attitude was that a quality instrument will stand you in good stead. Bear in mind this was 1980 and there were no real quality "cheapies" available at the time. That bass made me want to pick it up and play it, and FWIW I'm still playing Ricks now so it was an excellent choice for me, although that one was sadly stolen (serial number TC915 if anyone has it!).
fair enough man, all im saying is that this guy didn't save up for it, it was a more spur of the moment ill have that one job.

I wish my family were loaded
forgot to say it was 1500 quid
 16.
Hmmmm, invidiousness or jealousy??
Not really, i think its pretty ugly. I just cant justify 1500 quid on a bass like that
 17.
Not from me though
haha
 18.
HI Guys I've got a 1985 72 reissue Jazz Bass (sn:a0****6) that i'm thinking of selling. It's in good condition and has a bit of a wear and tear with being 24 years old (like me haha) It's finished in natural so you can see the superb grain and has a maple neck. It's got seymour duncan JB quarter pounders in it to give it better clarity and warmth and it really has improved the quality over the stock pick ups. As i've said it has a few dings here and there and the back of the neck has a few dings and marks on it but nothing that in my opinion affects playability and this is how i purchased it a year ago. I've taken some photos to show the major dings and the back of the neck so i'm not hiding anything. comes with a padded warwick gig bag, spare black pickguard. Reason for selling i've recently purchased a Fender Roscoe Beck IV, Status Groove Bass V and a Rickenbacker 4003 and the jazz bass as lovely as she is has become a bit surplus to requirements. Give me some ideas please and if the price is right we'll have a deal :-) Tim
Just wondering if this is still available? i know its a long shot! and how much would it be. or if you have sold it how much did you sell it for?
 19.
A bloke came into our shop and bought his son, who was an acoustic player, his first electric guitar - a Gibson Les Paul Standard at £1800. The beauty of owning a cheap instrument is that you appreciate the difference when you move up to a more expensive one. Spoiled brat? Maybe so. But it makes you wonder what the rich folks buy for their kids. For instance, would Sting buy his kid a Yamaha RBX170 (a great starter bass IMO) or similar? Food for thought.
Ouch
 20.
Nothing to do with it. All it means is his parents got him a nice bass-the instrument used has no bearing on the ability of the player. Anyway,if he's not exceptional, tell him to come get some lessons-y'know,being as though you're in the area.
yes but i thought his parents may have thought, maybe it wouldn't be a good idea to buy him such an expensive bass until he has become more experienced and started playing more, and he already gets lessons
 21.
I'd never played a bass before that day.I did'nt even try to play it in the shop.
haha well, it obviously ad an impact on you because otherwise you wouldn't be on bass chat I think its best to start off with a crap bass anyway because then when you get better on that then you will sound even better on an awesome bass
 22.
I've always had to buy my own, My bassing has been frowned upon.
And me man
 23.
It was in 1977 though.
haha still, its not like hes an exceptional bassist
