  1. Well, the loaner cab turned out to be a total stonker! @stevie sent me a spare BC112 "development" cab and it did a fantastic job. I'll let Stevie comment further on it if he chooses to, but I can't imagine needing more than one of these little beasties, particularly with the fitted driver.

Here's a bit of video of it in action....

I almost messaged that eBay seller to tell him I could buy a new one delivered for £24 more than he was asking, but then thought why bother!?

I have a traveller 151P going spare which I would let go for £220, but I’m a looooong way away from you.

Cheers - my daughter lives in Lytham, and in fact is visiting us at the moment, but not sure she would have appreciated dragging that down on the train as well as the baby 😄

From the new options listed I’d go for the Markbass 102P, purely down to it being two speaker cones so moving more air. All of the brands mentioned are good but I think this one would handle being a standalone cab better.

I had one of the Ampeg 210AV cabs and whilst it sounded great, due to its very small size I wouldn’t have wanted to gig it on its own.

Yes, I did the sound for a gig using one of those, and I seem to remember it needed a lot of PA support.

  4. Cheap options needed really, as I will be selling it on in a couple of months time. Been looking for secondhand stuff, but the Markbass 102Ps etc all seem to go for £350+ - not that far off new price. Other secondhand stuff is miles away from me (Lewes, East Sussex) - so not too many options. Only ones being an Ampeg SVT210AV and a little 150W Ashdown vs112 - both of which are probably a bit underpowered maybe? Only need it to cover a couple of gigs until my "proper" cabs are ready....

So, new options that I might not lose too much money one that come to mind are:

    Ashdown RM-112T-EVO II

    GK NEO 112-II

    Markbass Traveler 121H?

    Markbass Traveler 102P?

Any other ideas? Or could I get away with that Ampeg.... I'm wondering if it could with a bit of PA support...

  5. If I may share some experience of my garden "studio" build.... We took a solidly constructed garage style outbuilding, and used "acoustic" grade rockwool (RW3 or RWA45, can't remember which) - it is heavier than the standard stuff. We then built a room within a room using 4"x2" and used the same rockwool within that (1" air gap between walls), then lined with double layers of plasterboard with green glue between. We also used acoustic double glazed units - but I suspect adding secondary glazing would be beneficial.

I would try at least to pay attention to preventing air leakage - good door seals etc, as it is surprising how even small gaps let noise out - cymbals cut through the smallest gaps! We took care to include airflow, with air in and out via a "silwnt" fan through a long wiggly insulation lined hose to cut noise egress.

Anything you can do at this stage to improve things - even if you don't go nuts with double walls etc - will be worthwhile. So do consider hefty insulation etc....

    Me again

    Bit more done

Cut the pipe with my band saw. Lifted the blade guide up as high as it would go and then gently rolled the tube round making sure I was hitting my 150mm markings

    Came out a treat.

Roughed the plastic surface up with sandpaper and then used a cheap n nasty spray in very fine coats. Came out fine.

    Stapled wadding in place

One point to make. The top panel brace has a notch out of it as per the plans. I glued this to the top panel before i'd built the cab up

The brace that goes inside the notch is not on the centre line of the baffle. So, my notch was not quite in the right place

I enlarged the notch so its fine now, but it might be worth leaving the brace off until you can see where it needs to be

hope that makes some kind of sense

Hi, thanks for that - I have adjusted the drawings to take account of this - I'll pop Stevie a revised version he can upload to the thread - does this look better?

You could try having a chat with Mike Walsh at Zootbass, this might be something he could do for you.

I'm sure he could, but I happen to know he is very busy with custom builds at the moment, so the turnaround time is likely to be pretty long.

  8. All done, finally. Kept going with the oil, then finished with a few coats of renaissance wax. I added indicators to the wooden knobs with a bit of cocktail stick. The guitarist had given me some Seymour Duncans to install in place of the original PRS pickups, so had to re-jig the wiring, but that went OK - the single coil settings on the push/pull knob sound decent, and the volume is pretty even whichever pickup(s) are selected, so job done!

  9. More of a refurb than a creation, but here's a bench from my bench. We bought some very tired cast iron bench ends last year, and I had them all blasted and powder coated. The slats are iroko. I had to plane off a chamfer because the flanges on the ends were tapered, so the chamfer allows the slat to sit better into the recess. I also cut in some small square rebates into each hole so the head of the coach bolt sat nicely into the hole and was also held tight when doing up the lock nuts.

Only three more to complete now...

  10. I picked up a pair of ZS10s recently from Amazon (£25 - warehouse stock.... just a damaged box - the phones are perfect). I'm finding that the have a tendency to slip out with the supplied tips, despite trying the various sizes.... would it be useful to add some links/info for alternate tips? I have used the foam type before and find them OK, but would be good to know what type fits these headphones....

Some of us used a UK supplier on EBay for the grilles for the BC112 Mk3 cabs and they were made ti size an quite reasonable. I will try to find the details,

Here you go, you can get steel or aluminium. Alluminium is much lighter but does not take finish so well. https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/sgsmetals/Perforated-Sheet/_i.html?_storecat=7064986013

The prices are more reasonable than I thought. I imagine using an etch primer on the aluminium would give a better chance of a decent finish. I see that Hammerite do a direct to galvanised paint that claims to work with aluminium, too.
