  1. I have here my Harley Benton PB-20 SBK, in which I sent it to Shuker guitars completely in stock and I collected it while celebrating my 26th in Leeds, though my birthday is actually tomorrow and I just got home. I have attached some photos but the below is what has been done: SPB-1 pickups installed Gotoh multi-tonal bridge Schaller Tuners in black Rotosound roundwound 45-105 strings fitted General set up & fret level + Polish.

  2. Thanks ! Out of curiosity what does that do? I’m new to this stuff.
  3. Behold! an Ashdown MAG 250. it was a 10 minute drive and was decent to play for a few minutes. Something for a newbie like myself to get started on. it is perhaps too late to ask what you guys think of these, as I’ve already got the amp but what won me was the option to add a cab for 500w total power plenty for future pub gigs eh?
  4. I’ve sent this Harley Benton PB-20 off to Shuker for a proper set up + strings (not just for that I promise!) and for the bridge & pick ups to be replaced. I spoke to him about what I need out of the Harley Benton and he was happy to help. What a guy. I’m fairly certain Shuker is well known on this page for his craftsmanship and honestly I really look forward to how it sounds when it returns. The fact he does a signature JJ Burnel Bass and sorts out Simon Rix’s bass is awesome! mods to be done: Gotoh 201 Bridge in black Rotosounds 45/105 strings and set up (stock strings were 40’s … and dead) stock pickups to be taken out and replaced with SPB-1’s. Schaller tuners I grab it on the way back from Leeds in a couple weeks and I’m absolutely buzzing to use it for rehearsals (and maybe pub gigs if all goes well 😁)
  5. Very brief clip of me playing along to Peaches by the Stranglers (backing track on YouTube with no bass). Just to mess around with the tone & volume capacity of my piss poor 15w amp. Surprisingly I think I did well in capturing the JJ Burnel bass growl in this, although I’m just using a sonic P with stock pickups. 48a8d4db-1e07-4e08-b591-17de951a05b4.mov
  6. Brown eyed girl. Studying a setlist for a band I’m joining and it’s quite simple but also intricate in terms of timing. I like it
  7. Thanks Mike! Since my post I ventured out to Truro a couple weeks ago and visited Modern Music. Great little shop. I nearly went away with an Ashdown Studio 210 if it wasn’t for the fact we parked too far away to lug it around, plus I had to be conscious of throwing £550 at an amp so early into my bass journey
  8. Hey Steve! St Austell lad here. 🤘🏼
  9. Greetings! picked up the bass last month and @Deep Thought recommended this page as I have recently fell into a band and I’ve been bugging the fella about equipment. I’ve a couple precisions, a squier sonic and a Harley Benton PB-20 (initially as a back up but lately I’ve been using the HB more often) Currently looking for a head & matching cab that can keep up with my fellow bandmates so I’m keen to see if basschat can help. A bit of a backstory: I’m part of a 4 piece band called “The Blinders” with myself on bass along with 1x Guitarist, 1x Keys, & 1x Drummer of course. We were originally just a small jamming group in which I had originally joined to play guitar but recently it was decided we’d be a band so I have stepped in and decided to handle the low end side of things. I am after a head & cab that’s suitable for pub rock which doesn’t bring the bank to its knees (mind you I am after a good quality set so understandably I’m not trying to budget too much!) if anyone could advise and help out? Many thanks in advance !
