1.
Haven't looked at the Hartke LH models, but if it can bring down aircraft then that sounds quite promising too
Nobody would ever describe the LH500 as being weedy or underpowered, believe me! And the LH1000 is just insane! Lots of bang for your buck - especially when buying a used one. But if you prefer new, bear in mind that they come "naked" as it were, and you will need a rackcase or bag in which to mount it.
 2.
Ive got to the point where as long as I can hear something behind me im happy, id use an ashdown rig again if someone else provided it at every gig, I used a trace commando combo for a few gigs that the singer provided to save me taking mine. Im lazy
I wish I could get there too! I'm certainly not a gear-head, but I do like to sound good, even if it is only to myself. I definitely prefer playing when I like my tone. I think it makes me play better too and I just feel more "involved". That should (hopefully) have the knock-on effect of making the band sound better, so it's a win/win situation! I don't want people to get the impression that I am dissing these cabs. They are very good cabs and would have been (at full price) beyond my financial means. I bought one as much out of speculation as anything, after reading a number of glowing reviews/comments on here. I was slightly disappointed by the screw-length thing, but that is very minor. For me, the tone I get through the NX2-212T is not what I was hoping for - but I was comparing it to a BF Compact, and that is not a fair or valid comparison (regardless of their RRPs). Another bass player ran a vintage Fender P through my rig on saturday and it sounded GREAT - a total mid-fest!! So maybe that is the solution.... keep the cab and buy a P bass!!
 3. Yeah. So these "bargains" may only be so to the people who dig their sounds...
 4.
Personally I think you'd get £300. That is what I would pay, for a used but as new cabinet that retails at £380. It doesn't matter what it used to retail at.
Ah, but it doesn't retail at £380 - not any more. It did for a while, but stocks at that price appear to be exhausted. If two of these cabs were up for sale, one was originally bought at £780 and one was bought at £380, what would each one be worth if they were of a similar age and condition? The same (as they are the same cab) or different prices because of what the seller paid for them? I think there is an ethical element to that.
 5.
Im not sure how anyone will sell them for more than they paid, they are not on special offer and going back up to £780 after, they are discontinued end of line stock. Id say 3/4 of whatever the fender branded ones retail for will be the most anyone will get for a mint one, that could be £600 if the fender ones are £800 but fender might sell them for £400 yet or not make any at all, who knows?
Hmmmm. I'm not sure about this, and it raises all kinds of moral and ethical questions. True, we don't know what the plans are for this model or even this brand. But there are people on here who paid nearly £800 for one of these cabs (before the discounts came through). What if they want to sell their cabs at some point in the future? Should there selling price be dictated by a short-term discount that no longer applies? Those of us who were organised/wealthy/opportunistic/stupid enough to take advantage of the GAK/Bass Direct deals though. If we sell our cabs on, what would be an appropriate price? What we paid for them (minus a bit for wear and tear)? Full price minus wear and tear? A compromise between the two values? At the end of the day, is that any business of anybody else? It is an awkward one.
 6.
Gutted I missed the Neox212 at £379. Anyone want to sell on I'll take it off your hands....
Ahhh... but at what price?!?
 7.
G1 - 15 inch speaker, plastic corners G2 - as g1 but lighter (revised bracing) metal corners, G3 - redesigned. all New drivers 12 inches, new smaller box design, New handles, feet and grilles
That's my understanding too, although I'm fairly sure that there were some other alterations/updates made "on the hoof" as it were - particularly between G1 and G2. I also think that one speakon input is "standard" but an extra one can be added as an option.
 8.
No....sell it. I'd love an S12, S12T or S15. I must thank Alex for releasing the 3rd Generation cabs making a number of superb 2nd generation cabs available at a price that those on a modest income, like myself, can afford
Hear hear!!
 9. How about staying with the brand and trying a Hartke LH amp? 500 or 1000 depending on how much you want to bring down aircraft... Beautifully clear and powerful, and made to go with your speaker cabs. Cheap too! Can't go wrong IMO. They often come up used on here... 10.
I am shocked that a 1x15 had more mid punch than a 2x12 with drivers that are on par, especially as the 2x12 is voiced more to punch through. The other thing that confuses me is the BF tend to promote that it's cab that gives you what you put in, so no mids is no mids, with no particular voicing of the cab changing that.
Well I suppose that if you come to a BF cab from a series of mid-scooped cabs (in my case, Trace Elliot, Ampeg and Ashdown in that order) then the flat response of the BF cab will sound mid-rich in comparison. As you say, the GB can does seem to have a bit of a mid hump - but to my ears in is in the low-mid area rather than the (more pleasing to my ears) "mid-mid" part of the sound spectrum. Does that make sense? I find it is getting lost amid the low toms on the drumkit. But again, I guess that will depend on the kit itself and how the individual drummer tunes it.... So many variables!
 11.
I guess I need time to EQ it all as I can't presume the same amp settings with work the same as with my cab.
Oh absolutely! The problem is that my amp (a Hartke LH500) is hardly noted for its ability to chuck out mids. My main bass is a Fender J and I prefer to have both pickups on full. Again, a bit of a mid-range desert! Add to that my use of a BDI21 and you start to see the problem that the new cab is up against! That said, under identical conditions, my Compact always sounded rich and full. Why can I never just be happy with what I have?? Damn you GAS!!
 12.
I said that on another thread I think it is only the real top end gear going or the really cheap stuff there does not seem to be much of a market for the stuff in the middle or maybe no one wants our basses boohooo joking aside I think the market will pick up soon
Yeah, I've noticed that a lot of basses in the £700 - £1000 range are getting a bit stuck just now. I suppose that in a time when people are strapped for cash there will always be a demand for cheap basses, and the kind of people who can afford the top stuff are less likely to have been affected by the "credit crunch" or whatever they are calling it now... Still - trade offers welcome!
 13.
Anyhow all things aside I'll try it out and if I don't like it for whatever reason it'll just be another item put on the BC roundabout .
Likewise. Played through it at last night's gig and really struggled to hear myself. Just couldn't seem to find a tone that was pleasing and audible. Never had that problem with my BF Vintage or Compact. The GB cab is also a heck of a lot heavier and much more awkward to move about. Shame, because I really like the look of it. It is a very solid looking and feeling cab, and a model that I had wanted to try for a long time. Now we have the awkward question of what it is worth if I decide to sell it!!? Is it fair to charge what the cabs are worth when everyone knows what you paid for them? Does the BC karma machine demand that you charge £379 so that the community can benefit from the GAK super-prices? Bit of a dilemma that one...
 14.
If someone is unhappy with their NX2 212T, I'll be happy to buy it from you!
PM me if this is a serious suggestion...
 15.
How much are you guys dialing the tweeter in?
Completely off.
 16.
I know how you feel mate there has been alot of time wasting d--kheads on here recently but I bet we aint the only ones it is happening too though anyhow GLWTS mate
Thanks. Plenty of other people seem to be selling stuff though. There are even Foderas and Wals getting bought! So there is clearly some cash around...
 17.
Its a mexican themed party... I'll bring the tequila
You're not smiling any more.... where did that grin go??
 18.
Conan - Is your amp the Fender style EQ, eg mids are flat when mids boosted to max? I'd lower the bass to 12, (or lower...it doesn't make much difference but saves you wattage!), keep the mids flat (or boost if possible) and keep the treble fairly flat or boosted as the tweeter has a fair amount of high freq information!
Yeah, the tonestack is supposed to be "flat" when set at bass 2, mids on full and treble on 2. So when i had bass on zero, I should have been getting a significant boost to the mids. But the cab was swallowing it up!
 19.
I am still learning my GBE750 on very gig, as it takes a while to get to know an amp fully I think.
Yeah, I agree. It took me a while to get a tone I was happy with from the LH500/Compact combination. The tone stack arrangement is rather idiosyncratic and counter-intuitive. Back to square one I think!
 20.
me neither. I'd say it actually has quite a full and present midrange.
I guess it depends on what you are comparing it to. The only thing that changed in my set-up was the cab - the new NX2-212T where previously there had been a BareFaced Compact. Same bass, same amp (with settings unaltered), same leads and effects, same fingers (maybe slightly more tired after a tough week...). But there were audibly less mids. And a bit of an unpleasant, boomy hump in the high-bass/low-mid part of the spectrum. In fact, I ended up with the bass control on my LH500 set at ZERO in an attempt to get more mids and defeat the boomy bass. It is normally set at around 2. Mids set at 10 and treble at 3. Bright switch engaged and tweeter on the cab turned off. As I said, that is not necessarily a problem with the cab - but it is definitely different! With a bit more time I should be able to overcome this but it has definitely changed the overall sound of the band, as a number of my band-mates pointed out last night. And not for the better.
 21.
But my opinion is that if you have to go poking around in the the cab to actually see something which in fact is not a fault, then surely it is slightly excessive attention to details. I mean, the screws are over engineered I'd have thought.
True. And if it wasn't for someone else's comment on here yesterday I doubt I would ever have noticed the screws!!
 22.
If the QC stands up, its irrelevant where it was made. IMHO of course.
Again, agreed! As my main bass is a MIM J, I'm hardly likely to turn down a bargainaceous MIM cab, am I? I think people are getting very defensive here. In any other thread it is deemed acceptable to critically review a new purchase. I use the term "critically" here to mean attention to detail in a comparative way - not to simply criticise something (although a truly balanced review will usually include some negative points). We bought the cabs, with our money. I think we have the right to mention any little niggles!
 23.
still a massive bargain in my opinion.
Yep -- agreed. But that doesn't remove our right to comment on what we see as minor irritations does it? Or have I missed something?
 24.
Not trying to be confrontational here - just a bit objective, £380 for an amazing cab, be happy :-)
I can see your point. Yes, we got it for £380, but it is an £800 cab. And at that price point (as people regularly say about BareFaced cabs) you have a right to expect a top quality fit and finish.
 25.
If you bought something other than a Fender it was because that was the bass that suited you and there was therefore little need to modify it.
I think that is a massive over-simplification.
