1. Where's everyones sense of adventure?
Turning up to a gig with a good handle on the set is just soooo dull.

Nothing fires the blood and reminds you you're alive like hearing the singer mutter
"Oh I changed the key on this one"
as the drummer is on the 3 of the count in :D

I also love the impromptu pulling of a song you don't know out of someones arse, usually accompanied by the sage advice
"12 bar in A, country feel, watch for the changes cos there's a weird bit in the middle"
:D

2. Fantastic night at 20Rocks in Falkirk supporting Bleech on their UK tour.
There were suppose to be 5 bands on the bill but 2 pulled out at the last minute so ended up ourselves (Whumfff) The Puzzlers and Bleech.
Nicely balanced sound from the house sound guy... no bangs, squeals or howls apart from those that were intended.

Great bands and all jolly nice folks, a great night out. :)

3. All the bands and other bits pieces I'm involved with are quite rock/metal orientated with some folk slipped in from time to time.

One of the drummers I work with has asked if I'd be interested in doing something in a much more electronic/dance vein... being the wrong side of 35 and having never really been into this genre I must confess complete ignorance of this style of music.

The group he'd mentioned was Jojo Mayer and Nerve, any suggestions of other similar artists/acts I should be listening to to get my head round what he has in mind?

Anyone able to help an old dog new tricks?

Cheers muchly

Johnny

4. Having had this exact same issue I restrung a cheapy spare bass with a set of rotosound drop zones (£20 from stringsdirect)
a wee bit nut fettling and a touch of intonation but that was it set up wise.
No truss rod adjustment was required.

How did you get from there to where you are today and just how tough was it?

From wikipedia...

Carnegie Hall joke
An old joke has become part of the folklore of the hall. One of the earliest print versions of the joke runs as follows: Rumor is that a pedestrian on Fifty-seventh Street, Manhattan, stopped Jascha Heifetz and inquired, "Could you tell me how to get to Carnegie Hall?" "Yes," said Heifetz. "Practice!"[sup][19][/sup]

I am still very much at the practice stage...

6. Got 3 bands on the go the noo so that's maybe 60ish songs for sets plus whatever new stuff is being worked on,

Personally found that once a song is in there it sticks... as long as I keep playing it regularly.
If I don't play a track for a couple of weeks then bits get a bit fuzzy.

Haven't noticed my brain being full, but then maybe the song knowledge just pushes out less vital information... things like what my kids names are and when my girlfriends birthday is, trivial stuff like that :)

The number of people I would have murdered to be in 2 or 3 bands at once! Lol jk but you get the idea.

don't misunderstand... i'm very aware of how lucky i am band wise... if you'd ever heard me play i'm sure you'd find it positively miraculous i was in any bands at all.

am just bemused as to the fact that after several months of slog getting set lists agreed and learned and adjusted and nailed and tightened the whole thing goes bang just as we get going in (to me anyway) the fun bit that we've been working for... gigging.
