@Hellzero I want to remove the push/pull entirely, not wire in split and series modes. @tauzero this is very helpful, thank you 🙏🏻 would you use 500k pots instead?
-
@tauzero I’m wanting to remove the push/pull, it makes such a small difference to the tone, and I’m looking for a traditional wiring for a short scale
-
@Hellzero my wiring has the black going to hot which doesn’t match the diagram above. I’ve messaged Sandberg to see what they come back with. I know the pickup on the Florence is referred to as a ‘mudbucker’ which might explain the alternative wiring.
-
Here’s the internals as they are currently configured. I’m unsure of the rating of the volume pot but I could simply switch out the push/pull for a 500k tapered pot
-
Yes Paul! It is a Mudbucker however it only has two cables despite having a push/pull pot on the tone. I’m thinking of wiring with 500k mini CTS pots but then at a loss after that. I’d be happy with no coil split on the basis that I’m trying to find the guitars tone

Afternoon chatters I bought a fantastic Sandberg Florence bass, however the pots are pretty cheap and the humbucker is super powerful! As a result I’m thinking of rewiring the guitar however I’m battling finding a wiring diagram for a short scale humbucker equipped bass. I’ve been looking at the EB0 diagram which changes between years but I’m unsure how to approach this does anyone has any advice that would help? thanks matt

So the tone pot isn’t broken but it’s so subtle that it’s barely noticeable. My instinct is to replace the pots and wiring with a standard set up, something akin to a Gibson EB0 or similar

I’ve just got me a secondhand Florence, which is awesome fun to play. A kind chatter on here sent me some worn in flatwound La Belles which feel great. The only downside is that the tone pot needs replacing, it’s not working at all. What surprises me though is the cheap, made in Korea, pots that Sandberg use, I don’t understand why they don’t put a few extra quid into the kitty and put CTS pots in there?

Chatters! I’ve just picked up a lovely Sandberg Florence short scale bass. I have a question about string gauge. They come with 40-100 which for me is too light for a standard scale bass. Can anyone advise what string gauge I should go up to? I’m looking at flats if that makes a difference. TYIA Matt

Bassist available, own gear and transport. I’ve been in an originals band for the last year which hasn’t worked out but it’s given me some solid gigging and jamming experience. happy to play just about anything in any style. Seeking musicians who rehearse regularly.

Basschatters! I’ve fitted a new pair of Jazz pickups and soldered them into the existing pots. it’s all high quality stuff, CTS 250k and good quality wiring, etc. However when I have both volumes up full the volume drops off and goes real thin. Back either of the pots off slightly and the volume springs back into life. Has anyone come across this before? Are the pots knackered? Is it some other issue?
-
Minor tuning key fettle required to get them to sit snug in the existing holes. They were moving under tension. Lord bless copper tape and its multitude of applications ❤️
-
Here’s a thing. I’ve changed the tuning keys on my Bass Centre Detroit and the holes drilled for the generic tuning keys are bigger than the replacements. I’ve measured and made sure I’ve got the same sized replacements, which are 1/2, however they are noticeably loose in the headstock hole. I’ve noted that there isn’t a counterbore but I expected the sleeve and nut to be nice and snug. Has anyone any advice for making the fit a little tighter?
-
As I’ve been told many a time over, it ain’t pretty but it gets the job done. I’ve switched out the stock tuners for some Hipshot Ultralites, opting for mini clovers rather than the full size efforts. This should resolve the smidge of head dive that I had. The holes are a little bigger than the new keys but it’s literally a few mm. I can’t see this making any difference. I’ve also sanded the neck to remove a couple of light dings and scratches, sealing the bare wood with Monty’s Instrument Food. I’m super impressed with this product and will be leaving it overnight before buffing to let it sink in. I think I might be there now. I’ve no burning desire to replace the BBOT bridge, I don’t want to get too far from the vintage design.

That ‘manly’ resistor gives fantatsic tone but was causing some serious hum issues due to it being shoehorned into the control cavity. The simple fix has been to wrap it in electrical tape, isolating it from the other components and preventing the conductive surfaces from connecting. Whisper silent operation and stunning tone has been resumed 😊

So I’m a month in and she’s playing like a treat. I’d been toying with the idea of getting a Fender P bass but picking this up has me questioning what I’d gain from it.
-
I did and it’s a fantastic pickup. Amazing service from Monty’s too. They go the extra mile!
-
The capacitor was an insane pain in the backside to comfortably fit into the guitar body. I had to do some wrangling to get it to fit! The pickup is lovely with this set up. A huge improvement over the stock pickup!

I’ve had a few issues with grounding which I’ve sorted. The control cavity has been routed quite thin so the CTS pots don’t fit quite as snug. I’ve got it sorted now, it ain’t pretty but it works. Quick check to make sure that everything is grounded properly and then back together it goes. I’ve also shielded the cavity just to add a little more protection.
-
OK so this is getting frustrating. I’ve been suffering a grounding issue after buying some new pickups and a new loom. I’ve shielded the cavity using copper tape and have a nice silent set up now… until I touch the screws that are holding the pickup covers in place, at which point the guitar starts buzzing. I assume that I’m grounding the guitar via the copper shielding and the poles through my fingers, etc. how do I stop this? TIA Matt
-
Right we’re done. It was a little tricky fitting the loom with larger CTS pots into the cavity, however a little chisel surgery and she’s gone in fine. The neck bolt kit has gone in without any challenges, it’s brought everything super tight to the body. In retrospect that was overkill, the quality of the neck and the pocket was fantastic, it was super tight already. However, this can’t hurt. I’ve used the old pickup covers to save drilling new holes in the body, the new ones were a little slimmer. I’ve fitted a set of flat wounds and it sounds great. The old pickup was distorting and sounded overdriven, it’s got a lovely warm tone now. I need to make some minor adjustments to the action to level out the string heights in parallel with the fretboard radius and then I’m good to go. I may have to put a smidge more foam under the pickups but that can wait for the short term. I want to give it a few months and see how I get on.
