  1. I’ve pulled the pick guard off my red right (bit unintentionally Nick Cave there) handed Roswell pickup PB-50 this evening, and there are no extra holes in it. No idea when it was made, but the Roswell pickup suggests a more recent build. anyone want a white pick guard for a black one? This still has the plastic on it.

  3. So the Tangband does not fit into the ammo can, too wide, very annoyed, might build it into a tiny combo style amp with a wooden cabinet... However, I have found some Peerless SDS-135F25CP02-06 drivers I bought for another project years ago, and one of those will physically fit, need to get the driver into Hornresp or bassboxpro to model the driver/box combination and see if it will work. They are recognised as a subwoofer on the datasheet and do 50Hz-5kHz I think.
  4. Driver is optimised for low bass in a tiny (7-8l) box. Hoffman's iron law, 'low, loud, little, you can have any 2!) It going to have poor efficiency, for a practice amp I can live with that. There may be a better amp chip out there for that driver actually. I'll probably start with TPA3116 as I have those on a nice pcb already to play with.
  5. Looking to use a TPA3106 class d amp which runs off 10-26v so scope there. A 6s lithium battery would work nice if I want portable. I have various power supplied, I'm an electronics tinkerer/hoarder. I doubt it will be too damped, I don't want ringing, and a box in a box should seal up nicely. This is the driver combo I have, there may be issues getting the passive radiator in too: https://www.soundimports.eu/en/tang-band-pr14-b.html It may also lack top end, so all could change yet... Will have to have a play and see what I can do.
  6. Yeah rattle and vibration wise I'm thinking of a thin wall (9-12mm) wood enclosure that is bonded with a flexible adhesive to the inside of the ammo can to give stiffness and damping, hopefully that would stop any ringing. I've a little bass driver from Tangband that should hopefully fit for wobble duty, thinking about the pre-amp side of the amp and tone controls at the moment. Should all run off about 24v, so lithium battery or mains adapter is all possible, I would like to get the lid back on and everything in there if possible for storage/transportation. Once I get somewhere I'll post some pictures. I'd love to do the whole retro chicken head knob thing and keep the looks all period, but I fear space may be an issue.
  7. Very cool. I'm trying to build a tiny combo into a 50Cal ammo can at the moment. Small class D amp based. Not sure if to go mains or battery (or swappable between the two) as its only really a home practice amp. You can get cardboard tubes for casting concrete pillars into, Google 'sonotube' if you want more info.
  8. If you cover all shipping costs +one pint of guiness for my troubles yes. Where would you want it posting? Just checked your profile I'm off to Pocklington with the family end of this week, that's more your neck of the woods!
  9. I've been hanging on to this for years, and the state of the bench says i need to thin the projects out a bit. The original bass completely collapsed, I was asked to get rid of it and I salvaged this bit. My plan was to repurpose it into a 5 string electric upright. In my head it was a very cool idea. Honestly, never going to happen, even if I did I probably would be rubbish playing it. It's a bit rough as you can see from the pics, and the fingerboard needs re bonding as it's started to lift a little. So anybody want a slightly daft project? I'm near Portsmouth but work in Bloomsbury London for collection.
  10. So, got it home: the wife has named it Roary after the racing car cartoon. I see her point, don't like the colour, but £60 I can't complain. Thinking of refinishing in Olympic white with a tort guard to match my tele, ir possibly trying to chamber the body like a thinline. Also wondering if there is a lefty out there fancy swapping necks to do the inverted headstock/Dusty Hill look.
  11. If you find it that would be appreciated.
  12. Is there a DXF of the headstock floating about (I can buy one off electric herald)? Only I have a laser cutter and waterjet at work so could do a nice template to bolt through the machine head holes and route with a bearing follower.
  13. might well give a set of the nickel ones a go.
  14. So.... might have bought a Harley Benton PB-50. Picking it up tomorrow. Every intention of turning it onto a project, fenderifying the headstock and something funky with the body and paint. And learn to play it! Edit: Also, I came into this looking at spending £250ish on a squier possibly double to consider MiM Fender Ps. And I've spent £60, in all my years on various forums when you ask for advice with a budget, it only ever goes one way by the time you get to a purchase.
  15. For installed cables a 'network cable tester' is very handy and just make up RJ45 to whatever, I used to pin 3x XLRs to wires 1-8 + ground.
  16. Anyone know how the fat pole roswell pickup compares to the Squire?
  17. That is lovely and the pictures hoarded for inspiration. Very Dusty Hill, i kinda want a simple 1 pickup bass. As has this one: I do love the classy wood look of that. I'm thinking an Alder booboo reject body and plane the top down chamber and cap it in something pretty bet not silly money like zebrano, a spalted top with binding would look superb! The snob in me is fine paying £250 for a Squire logo on the headstock. But £500 I'd like to see an F on there, even if it Chinese built. Edit: also anything modified, like both of those, I would like to do the work myself, so its 'mine' if you know what I mean.
  18. That is where I'm looking at the moment, or the Mike Dirnt Squier. I'd prefer a satin neck and rosewood fingerboard, if possible.
  19. I'm looking for a relatively affordable P-Bass... I think!! I have big hands and fat fingers so looking at 4 string Ps for the wider string spacing, chunkier neck. I'm 6'4" so long scale is probably preferable. I like the look of the early 50s tele headstock, and slab bodies, the Dusty Hill basses float my boat. But not totally writing off more modern style Ps. I will probably turn it into a re-body project at some point, because I like making stuff and fancy trying a thinline style natural wood body. Any other basses I should be looking at, the Fender Telecaster bases look quite nice? I'd like to keep to squier budget but could stretch a bit. Would love people's thoughts!
  20. Hi, Thanks Steve, I'm in Portchester, and may take you up on that. Regards Bill
  21. I'm looking for a cheap Alder P-Bass body or blank for a project. BooBooGuitars have a suitable reject for £60 delivered, any better ideas? My aim is to plane the top down and chamber it for a slab/thinline style build (so a reject with a ropey top but good back and sides is ideal). Then bond a new top in place. Any better suggestions than BooBoo? Thanks!
  22. Hi All Noob here from near Portsmouth. I play bad enthusuastic guitar and played bass a bit maybe 15-20 years ago, and fancy another crack at it. So I'm looking for a used precision type bass (wide fat neck for big fat fingers) to restart my bass journey. I do like the look if the Squire 50s precision, but then you are not that far financially from a fender player Precision. Then the telecaster bass looks cool too (the Mrs thought that looked pretty) so many choices. I've built an assembled a few guitars over the years (I have an '89 Squire tele I bought in the mid 90s, I think the neck and tuners is all that is original). So I could buy a neck and build something up (thinline 50s P-bass, natural wood???). So many options. Couple of pics of my guitars, cos everyone likes gear pics!
  23. Would you be interested in a trade for a strat style neck? Mighty Mite with rosewood fingerboard, 'V' profile and satin lacquer, currently fitted with old Hofner tuners. Lovely neck but I fancy a P-Bass project next this was destined for a jazzmaster.
