Sadly, the filmanet tangled up, fell off and got even more tangled on the floor. So I can't print. I managed one job and thats it. Sorry, no more free printing. Rob

I've made ears for my TP-Link network switch as it was shorter than 19". Did them 2 years ago, still fine. I wouldn't think ears for an IBM P-series server would work, given they weigh around 100Kg fully loaded. What I would look for would be the weight, the position of the mounting holes on the device, as that position introduces potential rotational torque, the length of the ears from the frame to the device and the weight of the device. Remember thats a lever. So if you have a device and a design, let me have a look and I'll let you know. Need to be quick though as I have other things to print now. Rob

Just made some for @alexjbassist it also depends on the load on the ears.

Absolutely no problem,

I have already downloaded the files for the Prusacaster and did work out the printing times. It's a lot, 6-7 days from memory, I thought I posted the timings up somewhere on here, but can't find it. Also the Prusa Orange in the video is about twice the price of normal PETG filament. Once the ears are printed, I may have a look again at printing this. I need a shallow neck for this though. So before I do any printing I need a shallow neck from somewhere. Rob

I do have all those colours and have seen that video. If nothing else comes along I might just print that up in black.

If you have a design, I’ll print it

Due to a major cockup from me, I managed to pull the cardboard side off a new 1Kg reel of black PETG filament. Never done that before. Bloody cardboard reels from Overture. This means I have a 1KG reel that I need to use pretty quickly. Trying to despool it and spool to a new empty reel is really difficult so thats out as an option. Tried that and it just doesn't work and tangles up. I need to print things with it or it will get tangled up and I'll just have to throw it away. So if anybody needs anything printed in black PETG and needs it in the next few days, I'll happily do it for nothing, just pay the postage. Size is fairly immaterial but the bigger the better. I hate to waste filamant, it was my last roll of black and I'll buy some more, but its annoying to throw it away. Rob

It's currently on a lazy susan on my laser printer whilst I print some ears for @alexjbassist The water bottle is full of water to weigh the reel down so as the printer pulls filament in, the lazy susan spins and the reel isn't pulled off. Not bad for 3 mins of panic even if I do say so myself. So if anybody needs anything printed in black PETG and needs it in the next few days, I'll happily do it for nothing, just pay the postage. All ordered. Managed to buy from Thomann without adding in a guitar or indeed anything else, though sorely tempted by their Rickenbacker look-a-likes.

Given the way my kids are behaving at the problem, I'm very happy to swap both of them for a broken Squier bass with two strings and no fretboard. Rob

@Reggaebass That's as good a reason as any. If you ever want to offload any, more than happy to help you I don't charge for my services. Rob

This is the essential argument for art. Why is the Mona Lisa worth circa $900M? Why is a Ferrari 250GTO worth $60M? Why is Christian Ronaldo worth $200M to play in a Saudi football team? Why is a NHS nurse only worth £30K per annum? I know which is the most important to me. The classic economic theory is a scarce resource and more people wanting it (who have a lot of money) than demand to satisfy the need. I have a very small collection of old maps, I have a Booths poverty map of Greenwich, an old foldable map of London from 1829, one of Derbyshire from 1800 or so and a few others. I paid very little, even though they are scarce, other people don't seem to want them, so they are relatively cheap. Thats the same economic theory as above. Booths poverty maps have attracted a lot more attention recently and their price has gone up around 10x from what I paid. However I'm not going to be able to retire and buy and island by selling it. I paid £100 and it's worth around £1,200 now. Nice but not life changing. Rob

That video is great, its a great track as well. My head is nodding and my feet are tapping. What more needs to be said. Rob

Head out south west from London to Winchester and start counting big houses, or head to Blackheath in SE London and count the houses around the common and in the Cator Estate. I lived in Greenwich for 15 or so years and coached minis rugby at Blackheath RUFC, the car park on a Sunday morning had a lot of very upmarket cars, I managed to bring the average price down with my 59 Skoda Octavia There are a lot of very, very wealthy people in London and surrounding areas. £2-£5M bonuses are not uncommon for the top. When you earn £750K + £2M bonus because you asset stripped a company, £20K for a bass is chump change.

Let me have a look at it when I get to work. If it’s simple enough I’ll do it for free. rob

That's an excellent answer and why I come to Basschat. many thanks Rob

@BigRedX Thanks for taking the time to reply. I can also see a E205 with USB as well as the original one. https://www.thomann.de/gb/superlux_e205.htm https://www.thomann.de/gb/superlux_e205umkii.htm I would have throught that the USB one would be the one to have, would I be wrong here? I would assume I am wrong and the 48V is the to get I can also see the suspension units so thats OK. https://www.thomann.de/gb/superlux_hm56b_shockmount.htm A pop guard is no big deal. My <ahem> recording studio is my office. It's on the first floor and has a suspended wooden floor with business office tiles. My office isn't that large and isn't heavily damped, indeed I would say it's lots of hard reflective services and unlikely to change. Tripods and stands aren't a problem, I do astrophotography and have a range of different tripods from 10Kg loading up to 50Kg+. I can 3d print any fittings, Thanks Rob

@Burns-bass thanks for your kind offer. The Macbook is now going to a bass player in South Yorkshire. Just looked through my very large collection of cables and I cannot find a displayport to HDMI cable. Serial cables (including some home made special ones for various uses), parallel port, USB of various sorts, DVI to anything, VGA to anything, but can I find a Mac display port to HDMI. No! I Have a Mac DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor that I'll send, but if @Burns-bass doesn;t mind, can he send his cable as well. I'll DM him now. Thanks Rob

I'm looking for a recommendation for a microphone to do home vocal recording with Garageband and a Presonus Audiobox iTwo. This thread has some great examples, but most of them are a number of years old. What I know about vocal recordings could be written on a very small electron and still have space left over for it's mass and position in space. People have suggsted the Superlux E205 (https://www.thomann.de/gb/superlux_e205.htm). Am trying to avoid adding in a new guitar to justify shipping The price is OK, does this still stand as a recommendation these days? I can see that the Prosunus has a 48V button and their FAQ states this is for phantom power so am assuming that's OK. Is it? I hate assuming anything as I've conjured up the magic smoke too many times. My record for magic smoke is £25K when £25K was quite a lot more money than it is now. My boss was not amused but since he was there with me at the time, he couldn't say much and I kept my job. Beyond that I haven't a clue what to do. I haven't sung for probably 40+ years when I did have a rather nice voice as a kid and then things happened and I didn't have a nice voice <sniff>. I don't want to spend hundreds but £50-£100 is fine for a mike. Any help or advice greatfully received. Rob
