I have the Cab M+ - it uses Bluetooth to connect to the Torpedo software on my iPad and Android phone.

Playing bass through a guitar amp shouldn’t be a problem at a low volume. Why bother learning any notation - the best bass lessons tend to be on YouTube. I can read classical notation and tab, and haven’t needed much of either to learn bass. I do use tab when I transcribe basslines for my own future reference. ps: I agree you should take lessons from a die hard bass player, and not a guitarist who dabbles on bass.

It's getting to the point I almost don't even bother bringing my own DI box to a gig anymore. Every place we've played lately has had multiple DI boxes on the stage. So bass and cable are enough. I've been happy with the sound, and I've been told the bass is strong and clear FOH as well. Since I use public transportation, this is a huge improvement.

Cheap but good-sounding solutions: 1) get a Shure SM57 mic, and use it to mic your little Vox, or 2) plug your effects into a Joyo American Sound pedal, which you then plug into the PA to go direct. More 'professional' options would be things like Two Notes Torpedo Cab M+ or some of the multi-effect processors mentioned above.

When you use the Behringer just as a DI without any tone controls, you don't even need to turn it on. It sounds much better that way.

At this point I'm only using my Fender Precision bass and a guitar cable. Every gig I had in the past few months had a PA system and a sound guy with a bag full of DI boxes, so I just plugged in, and that was that. That's been fine for FOH, but stage volume is another issue. A couple of times there weren't any stage monitors, so I couldn't really hear myself.
