I think for most people its likely to be what they own currently apart from those 'why did I sell that' items
For me it has to be the Thunderbird. I was working it out earlier that if I'd bought the bass and the parts I added to it, it would've cost me £400 but was around the £250 mark for the bass and all the addons
Had it 7 months which is a modern record for me - modern being post-basschat/talkbass/egay
I'm still getting to know it and adjust it exactly to my liking but it was pretty much on the money when I bought it. Such a fantastic looking and playing bass and something a bit different
I'd also have to say Gallien Krueger amps. went round the doors using different stuff and came right back to GK because it produces the sound I want -
And you're all wrong
the best cheap strings I have ever used by a country mile and used all the time until I went to flats were Hartke ones. I picked up a 3 set pack for about £17 on Ebay. I still have a set left if I ever decide to get a second bass to keep.
Now that's what I call Texas Style Rock and Roll, er I mean Cheap. (sorry i was at the wrong gig for a moment there)
Those Alice ones are terrible. I still have a few sets knocking about. Cheap and very nasty. -
This is a Marlin Slammer. my first ever bass was a red one of these complete with yloow curly lead and Squier 15w guitar combo
They made a PJ version called the Sidewinder. I have a copy of Guitarist from about 1987 with an advert for them -

'classics'
I have one of these up my loft or it may be one of the PA heads.
Hey, I should give it to my nephew and tell him that I don't know anything about it so he can flog it on Egay for a fortune. -

Typing '1966 left handed' into google brings up this
I've only been playing bass for 1 and a half years and I'm on my 8th bass. I'm always scouring the for sale section.
By the time I had been playing for 18 years I had owned 6 basses.
Since the invention of Talkbass, Basschat and Egay I have owned a further 60 odd in the space of 6 years
I may only have one bass but its about the 70th one I've owned.
The cure for gas is just try everything you can get your hands on, sell it then buy something else. Its worked for me to the extent that i just can't be bothered doing it any more. -

My last Thunderbird - if I can find another one of these cheaply enough I plan on a 5 string conversion

MY Epiphone Explorer that I just couldn;t get on with cos it was too unwieldy
-
Had to be done. As someone who rarely owns anything as conventional as a Fender I feel its my place to spread the pointy bass love
I've now had this bass for 7 months and its my pride and joy. Its probably the longest I've held onto a bass in ages. I usually have basses for a few weeks, sometimes days before selling them again.
It began life as an Epiphone Gothic Thunderbird which has the jazz bass nut width rather than the standard which is more like a precision. I bought it from a guy in America and it already had the Hipshot bridge on it.
I've slowly added bits to it - I moved the front strap button to the front of the heel, straplocks, EMG 35HZ pickups, new pots and paper-in-oil cap, repro Gibson truss rod cover for the hell of it and a set of Roto flatwounds. The scratchplate is the original with sticker printer paper with the 1976 Thunderbird logo.
Next will be a set of blue Fret FX LEDs.

I was planning on buying myself something special next year as a kind of treat to myself for my 25th anniversary since I started playing.
I would really have liked a Thunderbird but they didn't make them in 1975 so the closest would be the 1976 Bicentennial.
I've always fancied a fender Mustang but I'd need to try one first. I suppose I could go for a predictable Precision or a rather unpredictable maple fretless one. -
I think that this is one of those subjects that seems to come up quite regularly as I've definitely posted this before but I thought I'd take a picture.
One Thunderbird on a £4.82 Thomann Millenium stand
I've even had an explorer on there before. -
I own only one but still go to the for sale section only to find nothing of interest.
I have owned a vast array of basses so its kind of 'been there done that' when I look. -
They're not polished like Chromes or as grubby looking as TIs but they are perfectly smooth. That's why I noticed the change on the D string.

If its buzzing at the bottom end then that would indicate not enough relief in the neck.
The way I've always done it (which may or may not be correct) is that if I'm getting buzzing in the lower frets then I need to add more relief and if the higher frets are buzzing then I need to straighten the neck more. If it buzzes the full length of the neck then I just need to raise the action.
If the bridge saddles bottom out, ie you can't lower them anymore but the action is still too high for you then that would be the time to shim the neck. i don't have any pics but I usually cut out a section of my worktop edging so that it fits in from the body end and just comes past the neck screws nearest the body and then cut out enough to let the screws miss it if that makes sense.
The super step strings won't make a difference to the action of the bass other than you have to raise the bridge saddles to compensate for the lack of mass as the strings pass over the saddles. I think they're more for sound difference rather than helping you acheive lower action -
If you're talking about the Bass Collection SB315 you have, I used to have an SB365 and used the now discontinued Elites Nathan East signature set and they worked perfectly but I can't remember the gauge - something like 47, 67, 85, 105, 130. I always used a 130 B string on all my 5s and 6s
-
Anything that's not going to compress when you tighten the neck bolts again.
I have a length of work top edging that I use. the way I installed my kitchen I didn't need any of it so I had about 3m spare -
I think its exactly the same as the higher end Peavey basses - Both brands tend to be associated with solid, budget friendly instruments.
Its not that there's anything wrong with them, its just that we're not used to brands such as this selling things with a price tag at this level -
Unfortunately I don't know who does Laney round my way so I had to but it online without trying it out from Digital Village. If its anything like the 15" then the 8x10" will be a belter
-
If it got me more exposure then I'd do it.
Actually the thrill of playing a huge stage is enough for me. -
But meant to be very good.
I'd take them but I only have one bass and my roto flats ain't coming off -
I've had a love/hate relationship with flats for most of my bass playing life.
Love because they're silky smooth and hate because I've never been able to find the right tension or sound from the ones I'd tried.
That was until I decided to have a go at these after going through an Iron Maiden phase.
I like everything about them -
I was able to buy the same gauge as I was using with roundwounds (45s) and they were about the same tension.
They are silky smooth and although I still get blisters, even after 24 years of playing, they're not as bad as I used to get.
They don't have a very good slap sound which is great because I've never found a use for that particular style except for the big rock song ending so I can concentrate on other styles instead.
I can do two handed tapping with them
I can get a really dirty sound when using a plectrum
They are still pretty bright for flats and I've never actually noticed any change in tone as they settled in.
Another big plus from me is that after 5 months I noticed that the D felt as though the wrap wires had gaps between them, more like TI flats so emailed Rotosound for advice. After a couple of emails describing the symptoms, they sent me out a brand new string. After 5 months use! -
Well. after 4 months use I thought I'd report back on how I'm getting on with this.
I still love it just as much as I did when I did my initial review. Still using the Thunderbird which has a pair of EMG 35 HZs now but with the same set of Rotosound flats and Gallien 700RB II.
When I did my original review, I had just finished a gig using an Ibanez SRX 5 string tuned a semitone down and it was loud as hell, hence my description of how careful you'd need to be if you like a lot of low, rumbly bass if you have an active 5 string.
I've now used this cab for several gigs with the rock band as well as loads with the wedding/function band and its been rock solid every time. Every gig with the rock band so far has been without PA support and its performed magnificantly and nowhere near approaching a level where it would be distorting.
Even with the OC-2 running, the sound is flawless and you can only hear the dirty madness that this pedal produces.
The finish is holding up well: I had roqsolid make me a cover for it after sending them the dimensions so it never goes anywhere without that.
There's only one thing I don't like and that is that the speakon cable doesn't click into position but that may be because its a combi jack socket but then again the one on my Schroeder didn't either
After 4 months I'm still contemplating a second one for larger gigs but haven't really needed it so far so haven't taken the plunge.
