1.
Played my bass/FX/head through a MAG one of these at Neon Studios a few times, phenomenal sound! Nothing else by Ashdown i've ever used has sounded the same, but I can't see them anywhere!

Does anyone ever see them about?

Maybe TIM can shed some light on this for me?
TIM DOESN'T SELL ANYTHING ON HERE ANYMORE, IN FACT NO ONE DOSE

    :)

  2. Maybe beause a lot of people love them and pour out all their emotions about them here. Someone reads it and thinks 'that's the bass for me'. Buys it and then wonders what all the fuss is about so sell them.

Fenders aren't everyone's ideal instruments just like TC, Markbass and whatever is currently flavour of the month either but generally if you love what you have then you're going to tell everyone eactly how great it is.

I love my current setup but there ain't a single piece of trendy or fashionable gear amongst it - except maybe the Boss OC-2. I go on about how great my stuff is but generally get ignored cos it ain't the in thing.

I've kind of rambled there - the second being that the Fender bass is the original mass produced and accepted bass so I suppose everyone has to try one ( or ten) to find out what the fuss is about and decide whether or not its for them or not.

The third is probably people 'upgrading' from a MIM to a MIA ( The MIA precision is without a doubt the most disappointing bass I ever owned, the best was my E Series MIJ)

There will be other reasons and perhaps some of what I have said is sh*te but sometimes Fender is made out to be the be all and end all of basses - I've even seen threads where people have said that 'I have X Y and Z, all I need now is a Fender' Why?

  3. Having a thought about getting myself a second Laney 1x15" cab and stacking them sideways to make it taller. there are, however, three problems with this:

1 - the feet are on the bottom
2 - if I were to put feet on the side of the cab that was going on top I wouldn't get the cover on it so i can't do that
3 - the handles stick stick out slightly proud of the cab so I need to have something between them

Does anyone know of anything you can get for something like this or a type of rubber or foam that I could put between the two cabs that wouldn't cause the top cab to bounce around?

  4.
These have got to be good for modification purposes.
Chuck a BadAss (other bridges are available!) on it, add an EQ or two of your choice, definitely have some series/parallel/single coil (delete as appropriate according to model of choice) switching, and away you go...
Alternatively they may sound good, albeit look wrong, as they are

  5.
Yes, but.... http://www.basscentre.com/bass-cabs/trace-...t-1528-cab.html
They only do an 8ohm version now but in the good old days, Trace would do all kinds of stuff. The 1528 in this thread WHICH IS NOW SOLD wasn't as common as the 1524.

an 8ohm one makes sense as I've always thought that a single 15" matches up well with a 2x10" so a 2x15" would go with a 4x10". That way you can run the pair of them with a trace amp for a total load of 4ohms

  6. So other than the tuners, shape of the scratchplate, pickup and bridge, isn't this just a rebadged Bronco albeit a hundred quid more expensive?

Don't get me wrong I've wanted a Mustang for years but that's a huge difference in price for a few changes. I really hope I'm wrong and there's more to it than that

  7.
There are two versions of the 1528 though aren't there? The V-series and the "normal" one? Confusing.
Hint hint :)

Most of the tall ones were 1524s so 2x15" @ 4ohms which was the one that I had which Rumour6 now owns.

And the square V-series cabs which were the 1248, 1248H and 1528

  8.
years ago there was a Yellow Pages advert, in which a French Polisher* was called to deal with a nasty scratch on a table.

If you have a spare bit of cash it might be worth giving one a call?

    *this is not a euphemism!
I knew a guy that was half French and half Polish - he was a French Polisher..

    boom boom

    I thank you

    etc

  9.
In Falkirk?! :)
In all the 18 years of using that witty remark, no one has ever got it :)

It stems back to the day when someone would be on Family Fortunes or 321 and when they answered a question then find out that they have also won a prize. This would invariably be something like a weekend for two in the Lake District or something like that

So a weekend for two in February doesn't actually have any value

Hey, there's nothing wrong with Falkirk. In keeping with the rest of the UK we now have 2 fast food outlets for every 3 people which also have a bookies and a pub next to them as well. 2 half empty shopping centres and a rotating boat wheel which isn't actually in Falkirk

Now back to the sale -

  10. There's very little chance of any more of it coming off unless its badly cracked around the area. The paint is pretty tough stuff and won't just start falling off.

Just get a black marker in on the bit that's down to the wood and a blind man running for a bus wouldn't notice it.

  11.
Just out of curiosity what do you use to polish?
I use cutting polish from Halfords as most of the resprayed basses I've owned have been done with rattle cans. Just don't press too hard with the cloth or you end up going through to the wood very quickly :)

  12. I took a chance when I bought my Roto flats as I'd only ever used Rotos in any shape or form a couple of times - in fact it was a set of RS66s a couple of years ago and a set of Spacers in 1993. They were the first black coated string I'd ever seen and the black stuff flaked all over the place and looked like sh*t really quickly. very quickly turned a kind of patchy grey.

Oh aye- and I couldn't be happier with my choice

  13.
Basically, I am after a fat, deep sound with the "growl", with punchy low-mids and balanced, smooth top end. I play mostly with cover bands, but I do 4-5 original bands as well and I need an universal sound that would fit them all - from soul and r'n'b, to pop, funk, a bit of jazz, indie and rock. I do play mostly finger style, with the occasional slapping.
That describes the sound I had last night, and every night I play for that matter, perfectly. As does the type of music

  14. Spotted this yesterday, surprised no one else has spotted it

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Already up to £1500 after 24 hours

Had a headstock break but f*** it if I had the money I'd be bidding on it.

I expect this to get silly cos I don't think I've ever seen one of these on Ebay before
