Head out south west from London to Winchester and start counting big houses, or head to Blackheath in SE London and count the houses around the common and in the Cator Estate. I lived in Greenwich for 15 or so years and coached minis rugby at Blackheath RUFC, the car park on a Sunday morning had a lot of very upmarket cars, I managed to bring the average price down with my 59 Skoda Octavia :)

There are a lot of very, very wealthy people in London and surrounding areas. £2-£5M bonuses are not uncommon for the top. When you earn £750K + £2M bonus because you asset stripped a company, £20K for a bass is chump change.

Who wants to buy my 61P for chump change?

You might be able to sell them via the agency you bought them from.  Mrs S and I had tickets for their Hammersmith gig but in the end couldn't go - we put them up for resale via whoever we bought them from (can't recall at the minute as Mrs S deals with all that) and they have just been sold, leaving us just short of the booking fee.

Thanks Paul. I bought them direct from the venue and they still have availability so I'm happy to let these go to a Basschatter at this price.

Hi guys, what are you thinking on this , in need of cleaning and maybe some restoration as it’s been in storage for apparently 54 years 😧, what’s it worth and what would be the value once restored

Looks like this sold for approximately £10.5k including fees. Let's see if it turns up at a dealer after a deep clean.

Thanks SM, that was the first question I asked when it was listed, haven’t heard back yet

I couldn’t find anything about them really, bit before my time 😁, I wasn’t actively looking but I’m on their mailing list and it looked interesting

Please let us know if you get a response to your questions.

Also interesting is the transition from slab to curved fretboard during 61 to 62.

I cannot find a reference to whether the electronics and truss rod are still working? The bass and case looks like they have been stored in a location subject to varying humidity resulting in the quite deep corrosion of the chrome and nickel plating. The back of the neck looks a bit rough too. The pickguard looks perfect with no cracks.

Although the provenance is interesting I don't think the Rascals connection adds value unless a family member or seriously dedicated fan gets involved in bidding.

If it still works and can be cleaned and set up without refinishing the neck we could expect a dealer to list it in the region of £15k +/- £2k. The lack of original case could impact that to a certain degree.

If I wanted a 62P I'd be happy to pay £6k plus fees (£2k) for that as it is.

Recently listed on reverb and serious money, but I don’t think I’ve seen a 63 precision in such good condition and all original, really low action too, if this was in London I’d be tempted to have a look

I actually meant to quote this 63 not the 66! Dirt cheap in comparison to the 66.

Just for clarification, I thought the Icon series and Ignition series are the same thing, Ignition just being the newer name for the Icon.

Having had both an Ignition Club and a contemporary HCT Club, unless you specifically need it to be fully hollow then everything about the HCT is better - better quality finish, better pickups, better tuners & hardware, even a better quality pickguard. The HCT is simply a class above the Ignition build-wise.

On paper the HCT neck spec is thicker, but in the hand my perception is that the carve feels much more refined, and despite the numbers it somehow feels slimmer and more tapered. I was actually really surprised to discover that the HCT had the thicker neck, it certainly didn't feel like it. Obviously one of those things where numbers aren't the whole story and you have to try it for yourself.

Agreed the HCT is a much higher quality bass than the Ignition series, but it should be as it costs twice as much.

I’d looked at this auction beforehand and whilst I didn’t see anything I would bid on, this 57 P Bass caught my eye. I went back just now to check what happened and the hammer price was £8.5k. With buyers premium and VAT that’s just shy of £10,750. Not too bad on face of it and part of me now regret not having a pop at it.

That's in amazing condition if all original and a bargain at that price. The 57 is an iconic precision. I'm sure a certain dealer would price it much higher than £11k.

  11. SOLD. These knobs will give your Musicman bass the original 1976 vibe. The line is really useful in showing where the non centre detented pots are on the 2 band EQ.

Price is £32 including UK mainland postage for a set of three knobs.

(Buying this set from Farnell costs £53.90 including VAT, handling and carriage from the USA).

    Thanks for looking.

Andy Baxter just listed quite a nice 74 P , never seen a case logo like that before https://reverb.com/uk/item/72828171-1974-fender-precision-bass-sunburst

That looks like a logo from a Fender amp. Case might not be original or it lost its logo at some point.
