I had a candy apple red Patrick Eggle New York bass which I was very lucky to win in a Melody Maker competition in 1995. I remember it took an age to get hold of it because the features ed had taken it out on tour with his band. Anyway it eventually arrived in mint condition and I loved it; amazing tones, great neck, lightweight, cool Ricky-esqe styling and superb build quality. I loved that bass. Sadly a couple of years later I needed some money and I had to let either the Eggle or my Silver Series Precision go. By dint of being more versatile, the P Bass won. I can't remember how much I sold the Eggle for now, but I wonder what happened to it. I'd certainly like another one someday.

Just my own point of view, with nothing other than instinct to support it:

More vintage instruments appearing on the market could just be down to the grim reaper coming to claim the ageing owners and their estate divesting the asset. All the time notable players are picking them up and telling the community how great they are (the basses, not the artist), the market will continue.

Can someone buy my 61P before the grim reaper gets around to me please! :)

Out of interest what do you make of this, https://reverb.com/uk/item/78434635-fender-precision-bass-1959-body-sunburst

I’m thinking it’s maybe not a 59 body, from what I understand they didn’t have a paint stick mark or a date in the neck pocket?, looks more late 60s-early 70s

I think the neck does belong to that body. Everything points towards an abused early to mid 70's bass. The pickguard white layers also look too white for 59. It'd be strange for the body wood to be parted from all of its original components. As he says the pups are dated 74, so I'd put the bass at 74 earliest.

Would be ideal to have both one clean and one with mojo. I’d tell you how good it is but the lottery hasn’t been very fair.

Mine has just the right amount of mojo thank you very much! :D

I just sold my fretless 4003 but still have my fretted Rick. Made in 1983 I think? I had a real problem when I got the Rick at first.... it sounded terrible! But it was my playing, I was far too heavy a player. My other basses were obviously more forgiving but the Rick was clancking and buzzing and rattling. I had to just stop playing so hard which ironically has improved my playing overall.

And you've even kept the pickup cover in place!

When did the bridge and truss rod changes come out ? just in case i decide to look at one.

    Dave

I'm not too sure, in the last year or so I believe. Hopefully someone with the knowledge will confirm.

Must admit i prefer the new version with the push/pull tone thing. The modern tone would be more use in my current bands giving the best of both worlds.

I do fancy one again but would need to try it first as i only kept the one i had in 80's for about 6mths and got bored with it.

    Love that shape tho.

    Dave

The vintage push pull pot has been on the 4003 for a few years now. The bridge and truss rods are the new improvements.

  8. I can see a lot of sales to new players who were previously put off by the old bridge and dual truss rods. I doubt Rickenbacker will increase manufacturing output so even longer waits in the future probably.

I think there was a limited order window to order one (i found out via the Jaydee Owners Group on Facebook)- pretty expensive  - I think my one was £125.

I don't do Bookface so missed out. Although that's probably too expensive for me anyway nowadays. :(

    Not yet.

I received the Custom made Jaydee Strap last month, and called Jaydee to say that it had arrived,  and that the quality, and packaging,  were fantastic.

During the chat I was told that .y bass was almost done, with an anticipated delivery date on February.

With the sad news of John passing away on 2nd January '24, my completion date may be delayed again?

Yes, that is very sad news. I didn't know straps were available. How do you buy those?

I ordered my Series 1 just over two years ago. Its already paid in full, so all I need to do is wait for it to be completed.

If it does reach completion  next month, then it would be around 26 months from the order being placed.

Did you receive your bass Kevin?
