  1. Are speakon connectors for amps and cabs all the same? And are they all 2 pole or 4 pole?

I have a speakon to jack which I got with my head, but I'm changing it and I need to get speakon to speakon but I can see there are different types and I'm not sure which mine is.

    Thank you!

  2. Hi all,

Have had this for about 8 months although it is older than that (I got it second hand so I don't know exactly how old) and it is awesome - fantastic tone and immense power. It gave me precisely the tone I had in my head as soon as I plugged in.

The only reason I'm looking to sell is that I have had to reluctantly admit to myself that it's too powerful for my needs (small pub gigs etc).

I recently had it serviced by Dave at Rosewell Amps and he replaced three valves in the pre-amp stage, although the power amp valves were fine.

It comes with a flight case which is a little beaten up but still provides excellent protection.

Looking for £550 for a quick sale, or trade for a Orange Bass Terror plus some cash.

Will post some pictures tonight after practice.

Ideally it's collection only - I live in Leeds. Could look to deliver if you're not too far away, or potentially a courier at your expense and risk etc although it will be fully protected by the flight case etc. Any questions let me know!

  3. Hi,

Am i right in thinking i could potentially run any 4ohm 4x10 cab with a VBA400, (assuming the cab is rated at 400w or more) or will the amp overpower it, or be damaged by the cab? Marshall make a big deal about their 4x12 and 8x10 cabs being specially engineered to manage the power output of the VBA400 - is this true or is it a bit of marketing spiel?

    Appreciate your help!

  4. thanks for the reassurance!

will try out those thomasltik jazz flats... never used flats before. as it currently has 45-105 roundwounds on it i'm guessing i'll need to get the neck and saddles adjusted for the revised string tension?

  5. Regarding bridges, what was said about being able to slip a sheet of paper under the back of them has made me very nervous. My '81 4001 has about a 1.5mm lift at the back of the bridge. It's solid as a rock and stays in tune etc no problem but is this something I should be looking to get fixed or is this just how they are?

    I'm a bit panicky now...

On topic, however, I can say I love my 4001 enormously. The tone is absolutely unrivalled by anything else I have played and suits my pick style perfectly. I agree the ergonomics are not to everyone's taste but for me they're not a problem. Lovely low action and great Ric growl.

As everyone else has said, you need to try one out properly to see how you'll get on with one, but I think you may well fall in love...

  6. I've got an Epiphone T-bird Pro IV which I haven't played for a few months. I had someone come round to look at it and it makes a buzzing/humming noise unless you have contact with the strings, or the bridge. I swapped cables etc and it wasn't plugged into any effects, so I'm not sure what's causing it. I replaced the 9v battery as recommended and it still hums!

Any ideas of what I can do to rectify this? Also, if in needs someone to look at it does anyone know anyone in Leeds?

    Cheers guys!

  7. Hi there,

I've got an Epiphone Thunderbird Pro IV and I want to get hold of a white scratchplate for it. I changed my standard Epiphone T-bird for the pro, and before I sold it I checked and the screw holes on the standard Epi scratchplate are near enough to swap one for the other. (Had I known how difficult it would be to get a replacement I would have sold the std Epi without the scratchplate!).

I know WD music do T-bird plates but these don't have the logo on them. Does anyone know where I can get hold of one of these rare beasts?

Any suggestions would be really welcome!

    Cheers!
