1. Up for sale is an 09 P Bass. Due to needing a driving licence Im needing to cull my gear and fund an intensive driving course.

This is a standard 09 p bass and fender have really nailed it with their recent revisions.

Comes with the new hard case which is excellent but no case candy.

Excuse my brevity but on my mobile phone.

  3. OK so it's with the future in mind I'm downgrading my entire rig as I have an opportunity for a new job in about 6 months time but that will require me to have a drivers license and probably a car too.

To fund an intensive course and hopefully some cheap wheels I'm having to move my gear which pains me quite a bit!

All the items are for sale and there isn't much if any wiggle room on the prices due to them being as keenly listed as I can.

    AGUILAR DB659/Eden WT1000 -

SERIOUSLY good preamp/power amp set up. She will do dirty to a point but this preamp is all about deeep, full tone to die for. Im not sure how many of these were actually made but mine is either 9XX or 4XX (depending on who scrawled the serial number on the back of it)

The quality of Aguilar gear, and in my opinion Eden, speaks for itself without me wittering on. Needless to say its a classy sound that will work in most if not all situations. Simpe EQ options but it's so well voiced I'd bet most users of this, and the DB750 which shares it's tone stack , keep everything around noon. The Eden power amp also has the ability to tune the tone so your basic pre EQ can remain unchanged, using the power amp EQ to compensate for the room if needed without affecting your core tone. With my p bass its just a quality classic bass tone (can you hear the regret already in my typing)

The DB659 has 'global' tasteful EQ parameters - flat is a great tone. Adding more or less of any one knob sounds 'good' it might not be the sound your after but it wont sound like sh*t you know what I mean. It has a bright and deep switch: bright adds clarity without being overly glassy and the deep will give you all the dub you need. Extremes of any tone knob are never overly offensive IMHO.

Price is £800 including the flight case - I'll split the shipping cost with the buyer.

    Next.......

AMPEG USA 4x10 SVT Classic cab - Early HLN model rated at 500w/1000peak dbut I believe all Classic's are now 500w not 400 like before

Some prefer the more 'high end' cab - berg's epi etc but all i know is that nothing can compare to the sheer oomph of this cab - I love it to bits! For rock and most other types of music this will get you heard. This one has no castors but does come with flight case and the bottom tray has wheels to aid scooting it about. Some slight peeling of the tolex but its purely cosmetic.

Price is £400 including the flight case.

    Pics to follow soon

TRACE ELLIOTt V Type 1x15 combo

Got this recently and was really digging it for a nice toneful 'practice amp' and for the smaller gigs / jamming at lower volume however it will put out over 200w at 4ohms and has a great tube vibe to it. Again with a P bass its just what you would want.

The covering on the amp is a little tatty but the everything inside is clean. The amp is on castors for easy movement and has custom made cover.

    Manual - http://www.britishaudioservice.com/inst/V-Type.pdf

Price is £375 - collection would be the best option as postage could get pricey and plain difficult.

I may be able to arrange for a buddy to drive half way to meet if anyone is super keen - I'd say a few hours from Edinburgh -i.e. Newcastle, Carlise etc but we can discuss that if it arises.

Please do PM me with questions and I'll get more pic's added or provide links to some asap.

  4. Howdy Folks!

I was quite impressed with this pick up in my recently acquired Squire VM P Bass - especially after changing it's very old strings - the p/u really came to life with the DR Sunbeams!

However I've an NP4 on its way and wanna soup the VM to give my USA a run for it's money. I'm hoping the NP4 can lift the VM to even greater tonal heights and I'm prepared to lose some of the bite and pick tone goodness of the PB101 for the added depth of the Nordy.

Not much to say other than SD designed this guy to sound vintage and they use Alnico5 magnets to back up their claims and you may be surprised at how good this p/u sounds and responds to different playing styles such as finger and pick.

Naturally I'll leave all wires and pots connected (but as I write I'd need to retain the control knobs but that may change) and do it for £15 delivered via 1st class post in the UK.

If you have an old P bass with a poor pick up this might just be the tonic it needs. As many of our fellow BC'ers will tell you the new Squires are getting great reviews and write up's and that all boils down to two things: feel and TONE.

Give that old P bass a new lease of life and if anyone asks about that killer tone tell 'em Duncan Designed 'em! Now there's a tag line!

PM's will be responded to ASAP

    Cheers

  5. Bought a an NP4 pick up from Callum today.

Swift communication and posted immediately upon receipt of payment. I wouldn't be surprised if it falls through the letter box as I'm typing.

    Nothing but good to say.

Cheers fella and I'll keep an eye out for future deals :)

  6. My old p bass was dipped in bronze and now hangs around the neck of a Phil Lynott statue in Dublin's Temple Bar...... so no I have never owned a famous persons bass - but did get to try out Phil's old P bass as the shop had it to 'mock up' before the bronze dip!

    done!

  7. I was waiting on one of these also but ended up getting an EBS Valve Drive as I needed to get something sooner rather than later. Still waiting to hear what the consensus is but the clips do sound good on the website.

Now when do you think their Precision style pick up will be coming out?

  8. That TEB12 was mine and I'd done lots of work on it - Model One neck p/u, complete re-wiring, new CTS knobs, switch craft input jack - the works really! It was a nice wee bass before I got to it but it is, in my humble opinion, quite the hollow body monster now.

It is now residing in Fife but Im not sure the new owner would entertain some offers but you never know. If you do get to try one, a TEB, then do as they are great fun, and nearly play themselves!

  9. The mosfet switch on the newer model can change the sound from a more 'modern' sound to a slightly more 'vintage'. A bit more Sunshine of your Love in the mosfet setting while the other setting is more modern, tighter with less fuzz - not fuzz as in big muff - just more defined.

Poor explanation but there you go. I think most ppl would decide on on or the other setting and leave it there and for £90 its a steal if you dig a more modern edge to your filth :)

  10. Depends what you're after I suppose but then you could contact Wizard p/u and have one custom wound for your spec. I like the Hanson-Lakland pick up tht came with my BG Pbass and I know that they now do the Neo Punch which is their take on the 'modern hot' P bass p/u

The list goes of for custom and replacement builders

  11. I'd a long chat with Dave from Matamp about valves and he says its a nonsense - yes you'll get less or more output volume but nothing really that different. I'have recently tried out some old valves in my pre amp and while I think it sounds better I'd be hard pushed to tell you if someone crept in and switched them back while I was out of the room.

Changing strings will have a more immediate effect but thats probably as expensive as buying 2 or 3 pre amp valves depending on which strings you buy. Flat wounds will give a huge change in tone from what you might be used to and the DR String review by Ed Friedland gives an interesting overview of the finer differences between strings within one brand - I don't have the link but type Ed Friedland dr string review into google and it should turn it up.

I'll pm ya with so info..

  12. Thanks guys

I think they were ECC83 but one of them has the majority of the printed info on the valve worn off. It still has the mullard emblem part intact but I can't be sure. The other is an ECC83.

I knew the other valves gave less gain but as little as 19% !!!! I guess with only two valves in the preamp the effect is quite noticeable.

I'll get back to the guy and see if I can try two ECC83's

I have to say the tone was great - warm and round and with more extreme settings on the EQ I could get many great sounds or at least great to my ear.

    Thanks again guys very helpful

  13. So I had a chance to test out some old mullards today in my Aguilar DB659 preamp.

I have to say that initially I was a little surprised as I tried my normal settings and i could barely hear anything - power amp was up full, volume around 1 pm and master volume/output at 9am on the preamp

I had to really push the preamp volume to around 3pm amd drivd the output to around 3 or 4pm to get sufficient volume for what would be gig levels.

The sound i was getting was a good one and i was half expecting I'd have too push the valves more to get the sound i was after.

What i'd like to know is what other ppl's experience is with vintage or old vavles. Is it normally to have push them so much to get the tone or even the actual output volume or does it sound like the valves are past their best?

Its my first time really trying out different valves in this preamp.

  14. dia duit!

I too am another interloper from Ireland living in Scotland, Edinburgh to be precise. I'd agree to find a bargain it means trawling the 2nd hand places evry few weeks and take the occasional trip West and do the same there. Always a bargain to be found and I've had a few first hand experiences of them - Rickenbacker guitar that the guy thought was a fake for £140. I sh*t you not!

Welcome and good luck with the studies.

  15. Hi just to clarify I said the bass was dated I meant it was via the serial number.

Thanks for all the advice so far. I was guessing that the woods were different but wasn't sure if that was just a supply thing or a specific run. I'll try and get a chance to play them through an amp and hear if there is any difference.

  16. A local shop has two stingrays in at the minute.

Played them both (unplugged) yesterday and while one of them was quite nice the other felt much heavier. The guy in the shop claims the lighter model is a '99 model, has a 4 bolt neck and I guess he's right.

The 2nd one was admittedly beat to hell with lumps out of the neck, chips in thr paint buckle rash and some very noticable damage to the g side of the fret board - like its been repeatedly dropped or gnawed by a big rat! Its also very evident on the left hand and Im not sure anything could be done to repair it other than a 'new' neck.

Anyhow the point is this 2nd beat up bass felt considerably heavier and had a 6 bolt neck, metal battery cover etc and it was dated 89/90. The bridge appeared to have mounts for the mutes as well but they we long gone.

Would the woods have been different in these two models?

I am tempted but the cost of the new neck is putting me off as I cant get the guy to budge from about £550 - not a good deal considering the damage to the neck

    Cheers for any help
