  2. Selling my 2006 Dennis Galuska Masterbuilt P-bass, based on a '68 'Telecaster' bass. I'm told that this was originally made for the bassist for Athlete, back in the day. I bought this on a bit of a whim but have realised its far, far too nice for me - I can't do it justice and feel like a bit of a fool playing on something so nice!! First thing to note is the weight - mostly due to the super premium ash, the whole bass weighs 7lbs 8oz, which is insane when you consider that it's a slab body! It strikes meevery time I pick it up; it's lovely and balanced and you can wear it for hours without getting tired (unlike most slab-bodied precisions). It's also incredibly resonant. This is the magic of Masterbuilt guitars - the base materials were hand-picked and matched by one of Fender's best and it shows. Neck is a great shape too. A very soft "V" at the lower frets, going into a "C" by 12 and onwards. It feels very natural, and has clearly been expertly hand-carved for comfort. Frets are in great condition and a very low action is achievable (although I wouldn't recommend it!). Custom "block" inlays were also specified as part of the original order, with Ron Thorn (the current head of Fender's custom shop) specifically requested to do them. The work is top-notch - no filler whatsoever and perfect in every way. Nice and subtle too - I'm not usually a fan of block inlays but these look awesome. Finish is a lovely white relic - the spec has this as "super heavy" and "extreme" and it shows on the body! Lots of checking, dings and wear - it feels and looks very played in. On the sound - it's bloody amazing. It's honestly the best sounding p-bass I've ever heard. Think of ANY recording with a full-on p-bass tone and this does it to a tee. Can go full-on snarly precsion growl, or laid-back Pino groove. And super resonance, sustain and clarity all over the neck. The tone on this has a centre detent and acts a bit like a tbx tone control giving enormous versatility. All original save for (i) the machineheads, which have been replaced with Fender-sourced new ones (the g-string head was at some point replaced with a smaller version, so there are four tiny holes under the metal); and (ii) the case, which is a replacement Fender case. All in all the best P-bass you'll ever play, hands-down. This is light-years ahead of regular Custom Shop pieces and it shows, from the feel to the sound. I need a quick sale on this because of another incoming, so I am pricing at £3200. Equivalent basses are up on Reverb etc. for £4-6k. Needs to be sold quickly, however, or I will take it down. I'm in NW London or can ship, fully insured, for £50. I will also take px if need be - just let me know what you've got!
  3. Nah it's all guesswork, which is why Sandberg players all sound out of tune half the time. It probably just didn't occur to one of the world's premier bass manufacturers to include such a vital component
  4. My VS4 has active/passive switching, which I didn't know I needed up till now!! It's in the passive mode 90% of the time, I much prefer it for P-bass tones.
  5. The VS4 California etc. - it's utterly brilliant. The bass is hugely resonant and impeccably well made. WIll certainly be looking to pick up another in due course! My only gripe is that the neck is slight large (I'm used to an EBMM Sterling!)
  6. I'm a guitarist of 20 years of so (mostly blues rock, metal, etc) who's recently picked up bass - and I absolutely love it. I've found that the basslines on the tracks I loved on guitar aren't as enjoyable as I expected, however! I've had some enjoyable goals recently with Vulfpeck songs - for example Dean Town and Conscious Club were tracks to learn and I've got them down - they're brilliant fun to play. Any suggestions for what I should aim for next? Really just looking for fun, bass-driven tracks that challenge me a bit but are rewarding to master!
  7. Congrats! I've been enjoying my own induction to the "P" world this weekend with a Sandberg, really surprised at the range of tones available from one pickup and a tone control!! Mind if I ask what amp setup you've got there? Looks nice and compact - which is something I've been looking for recently!
  8. I just bought the Sandberg VS4 from the marketplace on here, received it yesterday. I'm not a veteran bassist but it's a phenomenal instrument - very, very well made and it sounds enormous!! The active/passive switching is a great feature I never knew I needed, too.
  9. Escape him the go, bass must the! Do neck have the pension?
  10. I just noticed when looking to but a set of DR Hi-Beams to try - got a set for 26 quid! There's a lot of discounts on there currently, so some very good prices: https://sussexsoundhouse.co.uk/
  11. The one appearing at the start of this video... good god:

  13. Thanks for the suggestions! The solution I've gone with is the Yamaha THR10C - I had one laying around (from the days of a smaller apartment) and realised it has a bass option within its modeling. I didn't hold great hopes but it sounds fantastic - certainly more than capable for home practice. So good news as I won't have to splurge on additional gear! Thanks again
  14. Ladies and gents, I've a lovely bass incoming, with the intention of upping my bass chops during this period of isolation/WFH! Realistically this will comprise learning as many Joe Dart lines as my wife can tolerate. I'm a guitarist, so plenty of amps but nothing much good for bass. No need for an amp, per se (plus I live in a terrace), but I was thinking of getting a pair of the Vox Amphones for self-practice/learning. Howeer the reviews are pretty dire. Any views on the best personal practice solutions? Ideally it woudl be great to run some audio into whatever I use as well. Thanks in advance!
  15. I'm a guitarist looking to sharpen up on bass a bit, so I won't be gigging but I would like a decent tone! I've picked up a G&L L-2000 from the classifieds here, so now I need a partner for it! I tried a Fender Rumble 30 out and it seemed pretty decent, but I wondered if I could spend my £150 any better secondhand or even new? I'm guessing that on a low budget shipping's going to be the real killer. Anyway, any advice is very much appreciated! Thanks, Dan
