1. I bought a couple of editions of a Bass Magazine that came with a cd and was U.K based (can't remember the name) but it had loads of transcriptions and tutorials in it and was supposed to be every 3 months but it seemed to just disappear it was a few years ago now but it was really good anyone remember it? How many issues did they do?

  2.
she is indeed a beauty but I fancy a change :) how is the band coming along by the way?
I sold the Yamaha too so I guess we're both still searching for that perfect bass! The bands coming on great except the drummer has decided to go on holiday for 6 weeks! just when we're ready to start gigging!

Good luck with the sale mate.

  3. This used to be my bass (not that it's gonna sell any quicker for that fact!). But I can vouch for both the bass and the seller. If I had more than two pennies to rub together I would be incredibly tempted to take this back! Good luck Ian I hope you can find a buyer/trade for this.

  4. I'm selling a couple of things on Ebay to try and get some money together for a cheap car:

    5 string Yamaha:

    and Samson Wirelss System:

If you look at my other items I'm selling some other random no music related stuff including a van (could be a band van).

    Thanks guys

    Pete

  5.
I've played at a local special school a couple of times, with the kids joining in on a few nursery rhymes... it is quite strange, but very rewarding to see them enjoying themselves :)
I did the same thing. The singer in my old band got us a booking at a specials school's end of year party. We turned up and played our set (during which many of the students wandered on stage to hand us half eaten bits of food etc) Then at the end they came and asked us to 'play something sexy' for the fashion show the students were putting on. The band looked at me so I played a slow funky line a bit like the one the band play in from dusk till dawn. We found it hard to finish as we were all laughing so hard at all the kids walking the wrong direction or just standing in the middle of the 'catwalk'. It was very rewarding though and a lot of fun.

  6. I find being able to play a set unaccompanied from top to bottom. Just counting bars and feeling the song is the best way to make sure the set goes ok. That way if you can't hear the rest of the band properly at least you can follow the song. This only works though if the rest of the band know the set inside out. Otherwise you end up playing on your own while the rest of the band falls apart.

I wouldn't worry about the change in clientel either. The only difference is in a pub/club the punters might have had a few beers. Which means they are more likely to be accepting.

    Ian
Same to you mate. Keep in touch.

  8.
I could be way off as I've never played it, but I've always thought of that song with a loud souped-up chorus to add dynamics??
Yeah I know what you mean. I always think of it as a quieter one. But the key change can raise the dynamic a bit. I think we play it with a bit more subtlety. (If we get too carried away so does the drummer and we end up with John Bonham being re-incarnated).

  9.
Why don't you try Simon Merrick's website he is Basschatter and has a book with most of Jamiroquai's transcriptions. Very good book and a top bloke Mr. Simon (I think that's new nickname)
Yeah I tried that. As I said previously he is negotiating a new publishing deal so the books are out of print. I actually bought a flight case off him a while ago. SO may have his email address somewhere.

  10. I bought a Warwick LX4 as my first 'serious' bass while I was studying music. The first college gig came up and a girl who was playing bass in one of the songs asked to borrow it, without thinking about the large spangly belt buckle she was wearing! Buckle rash is an understatement! I was gutted. Since then I've insited anyone playing my bass remove their belt. I get some funny looks until I show them the back of the Warwick.

  11.
Remember, "Here comes the Bride" is a perfect fourth!
I was about to say that. I'm really rusty with my intervals. When I was at college I used to practice them all the time. We used to have a lesson every Wednesday mornings where the lecturer would play intervals and pick random people in the lecture to name the interval. The fear of getting it wrong in front of everyone was enough to make me learn them all.

I have this book but never got past the first few pages. I might try again now. Another good place to practice intervals is http://www.musictheory.net/trainers/html/id90_en.html

  12.
nice one! theres a lot of tone shaping onboard my only wish is that there was a mid control but i can live without it

btw cool missus you have as well , my ex wife only ever got interested when I was selling them
Thanks. Yeah a mid would be nice. But in my case would probably confuse me even more.

She is pretty cool. It did take a lot of 'discussion' to get her to lend me the money. And I now have to pay all gas and electric bills for eternity! But it's worth it!

  13. Played My G&L Tribute L2000 for the first time at practice last night. Wow! I play a Warwick normally so I'm used to a beefy sound. But this had so much more clarity.

I use an Ashdown Mag 250 combo with the 15 inch cone. Normally I have to use the amps eq to fully achieve the sound I need. I didn't even push the button to turn the eq on. I left the amp flat and just used the bass controls. It did take a bit of taming on some of the slower ballads (I play in a pop/soul covers band). The neck felt so easy to play. I can't wait to play it on Thursday with my other band. I'm gassing for an Asat now! But it took too much work convincing the missus that I needed this one (she had to lend me the money as well till the end of the month :)
