Ooh, I've noticed one of these for sale near me. Looks like a great live mixer.

How are the mic pre's and the onboard effects?

Very good, loud and accurate to what’s played back, neutral.

Don’t have an opinion on the effects as we haven’t used them yet

  3. We got this last week. Recorded our gig on Saturday.

We used up 14 of the channels, all recorded as separate stems onto an SD card onboard the desk

A 2 hour gig took up about 8Gb of space.

I loaded all the stems onto Reaper, dead easy.

This is without any plugins. The only changes I made was to turn down the bass and up the guitar so it's not perfect but I'm pleased with just how easy this was to do.

    The preamps are really loud

    worth £800 easy.

  4. Our lot down the Ostler Inn, Uffculme in deepest darkest Someset last Saturday.

Recorded direct onto our new Zoom L20, no tweaking. 14 lurverly seperate stems straight onto an SD Card

  5. Turntable is the correct term I believe. 😄

I go to Discogs to buy used vinyl. Much cheaper.

New stuff is silly money but I suppose it costs a packet to make compared to a download or a CD.

There's something about getting up and going through all your collection before choosing it and putting it on, sitting down with a glass of vino and a mate and listening.

I like my bass to be heard and to have its place in the mix, but I never think of this as ‘cutting through’. ‘Cutting’ implies treble frequencies, which may of course be present in my bass sound but aren’t what it’s really about.

Not to me. It just means being heard as well as felt. For me its usually a case of adjusting the low mids. I actually have my higher frequencies right down and utilise the mids section of the EQ to "cut through". The guitarist hogs a lot of low end, especially on his Les Paul and a lot of the mid/highs on his strat. The drummer gets his lows with his kick and toms and his highs with snare and rides. I get squeezed in the mids so that's where I find my space. I make it sound basic but there's a lot of wriggle room in there. The acoustics of each venue make a huge difference to where those boundaries are.

  7. Yeah, I'd hate it if Geddy's bass lines cut through and I had to hear them. :)

Seriously though , I have to disagree. I love it when the bass cuts through, not overpowering but clearly audible. So many sweet lines to inspire.

Well, no. I hire the venue for a fixed fee, they supply facilities, PA, a bar and staff it (and keep any drinks) and we keep any proceeds from the door and hopefully make enough to cover hire costs and pay something to the house band . At least, that is the model currently under discussion.

ah ok sorry, not like my jam night down the dog n duck!

    What does tilt do?

    This apparently

Tilt is a dynamic, powerful SEE SAW EQ control. This control has a central neutral position. Turning the control clockwise increases the overall mid to high frequencies and decreases the lows thereby giving your sound more presence, which can be useful for cutting through live band situations. Turning the control anti clockwise reduces the overall mid to high frequencies and increases the lows making your overall sound rounder.

I turned it a little more to the mid lows, just a smidge, gave me a nicer smoother low end, not too much though.

  10. Just got back, sounded F@ckin' brilliant, The Mosfet input is especially nice and The Tube breaks up lovely. That tilt function is very useful.

Very happy and  it's silent when not in use as well.
