  1. This is quite interesting, I've heard the jazzes praised but didn't know they did p's too. I notice there seems to be varying prices, had anyone tried the "top of the range" ones at £119? Is there a discernable difference?

  2. I won't be moving too far musically from where I am now in punk, I've checked out what a few guitarists I like play and they seem to all be on Gibsons so I might have to check out the Les Paul and SG copies..

The kits seem to be fantastic value, I have noticed that the soundclips have different styles of music as demonstrations, although you could use any guitar would these indicate the traditional types of music played on them?

Also seen this though which seems pretty cheap, any thoughts?

  3. Thanks for the thoughts, in terms of guitar I'm instantly drawn towards the tele as it looks the coolest, whether thats the wisest way to choose is a different matter entirely!

I do have an acoustic at home so I think I'll learn a couple of songs on that before I start splashing the cash, it'd be nice though to invest in something which will do me for a good while though. I play a matt freeman squier at the moment so i'll probably look at the same range (Classic vibe) that is in the first instance, may struggle on the budget though..

  4. Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a starter electric guitar to learn and potentially play a couple of songs live. Obviously in the bass world I'm pretty good with knowing what bargains are available, does the same apply to guitars? Would a classic vibe be good, how do the Harley Bentons stand up?

I'm starting to feel like I want a new challenge musically and hoping this can scratch that itch. The secondary consideration is that I have limited funds so around £150 would be my budget.

  5. They are what I like to refer to as career musicians, they write a couple of songs for singles and the rest is middle of the road tripe but enough to promote and sell the album.

Probably sold to people who used to have a second thought for music when they were younger but now only listen to bands that remind them of that time.

  6. Still a few more opportunities to come see the skurv before the end of the year.

07/11/15 - Deptford, Birds Nest w/ Emergency Bitter & Sweet Jonny
18/12/15 - London, 100 Club w/ The Business, Infra Riot, The Gonads
19/12/15 - Brighton, Bleach w/ Bar Stool Preachers, Asbo Retards, Demon Smiles
27/12/15 - London, New Cross Inn w/ Peter & the test tube babies

Its fair to say if you're not into punk then probably best giving it a miss!

You didn't have enough headroom because you didn't have the input up high enough and subsequently not enough signal to the power amp...

Good to know anyway, is the same true of the ABM Evo III?

This is a major point about the shape button. It's basically like a contour control in that it'll cut your mids and boost lows and highs, i.e. give a scooped sound. BUT, (on my ABM EVO II at least), THE SHAPE IS ACTIVE WHEN THE BUTTON IS OUT, NOT IN. This is counter-intuitive of course, but with this amp at least, if you want to be heard live the Shape button should be IN to provide NO scoop. Perhaps this is why so many people claim they have problems with Ashdown amps and why they're seen as 'woolly' or 'muddy'? Possibly, as the default position of the Shape button provides a scooped sound. To be quite clear, if you want an unscooped sound with an ABM the Shape button should be IN. Then the EQ section works as it should.

That is good to know, I tend to trust my ears when setting up but this should help with getting to grips with the amp I've bought as a replacement.. An ABM 500 Evo III, I'm excited!
