1. So I've got a few quid coming my way soon due to Christmas bonus. I'm looking for a bass that will be able to go one octave lower than my 8 string guitar, which is tuned to F standard (F,Bb,Eb,Ab,Db,Gb,Bb,Eb). I'm thinking about getting a 6 string, tuned F,Bb,Eb,Ab,Db,Gb -but the high Gb is optional. I get the feeling I'll need a crazy scale like 36"+ I want something that sounds tight and punchy. Generally I love the sound of Stingrays and Wals, but this will have to be something completely different. I don't think the middy sound work in a mix tuned that low. Thoughts or suggestions?
  2.
Might be your watch, is it flashing in time or something? JoeGarcias watch did the same trick, but clickier.
I have an analogue watch. Self winding too, no batteries or electrics in there.
Yeah, to my ears its not a beeping but a swirling noise.
I think that might be the digital camera's cheap microphone. It sounded like a beeping at the time.
It's probably that Wispa Gold.

Lets not forget the OP said it doesn't happen with his POD so it could be specific to that rehearsal room or rig.
Yeah, and I plugged directly into the PA and it didn't happen, so it must be just that amp. Perhaps my signal is too hot?
  3. It could be the shielding. I stuck another battery in the back to 18v mod it - and the battery holder thing only has room for one battery. Next time I'll remove one of the batteries and try again There are two new batteries in there, so they're not getting low. As for feedback, etc. I don't think that was the cause. The noise seemed to be the same wherever I stood in the room.
  4. Anyone experienced this before? I don't get it with my POD but I noticed it in a rehearsal studio I went to yesterday. I filmed it I've got a Schecter bass with EMG-Hz pickups & preamp...
  5.
won't you kill yourself if you then touch a mic?
Have you been watching The Commitments?
  6.
Sounds like the strings have helped. I dont use slinkys, are they nickel? i've always found nickel strings go duller quicker for me, which is why i'll always use steels if i can, i also prefer the sound of them.
Apparently they are "Made from nickel plated steel wire wrapped around tin plated hex shaped steel core wire".
for a tool-esque sound you'll need to dial in more mid, your treble seems fine, and also some kind of preamp/od to add a little grit. we're not talking full on distortion, just something left on all the time to give it some bite (justin from tool uses a rat) hope that helps.
Thanks for the advice. I just realised I was playing a lot of Tool song in that video... The purpose of the video was to show the bass completely flat so nothing interferes with the tone But now it's sounding more like how I would like, I can start creating a patch to get my bass sound
  7. I made another video. I used all the same settings (PODxt on bypass, flat EQ, etc). The only difference is a packet of new strings and the 18v mod. Hear the difference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwhuCs-jCcg
  8. Just went in there half an hour ago. I didn't ask to play any basses but I did ask for some advice. There was a youngish guy with long hair who was helpful. He helped me pick some strings because they didn't have the DR Hi Beams in the gauge I wanted. The other guy who's normally in there (short hair, goatee) carried on Facebooking or whatever it is they do the whole time Although he did say how much the strings were without taking his eyes away from the screen. Felt a bit nicer - but then I was buying something. Edit: Forgot to mention, the strings were a decent price. £27 for 5 string ernie ball sets and £35 for DR Hi Beams.
  9. I didn't realise the shop had such a bad reputation, I thought it was just me. I always feel odd when I'm in there. It's like I'm a child in a shop with my mother telling me not to touch anything. And whenever I ask the staff for advice I get really short answers that make it clear that you're wasting their time. Horrible place...
  10. I've always used Ernie Ball strings on my basses - how do the DR HiBeams compare to slinkys?
  11.
New strings will definitely help. Yes, I have the BassPod XT Live and it's fine. Try some DR strings on it. They're expensive, but they do give you a much nicer tone. Also, is your Schecter active? Perhaps try adding some treble and bass on the preamp if it is. Sounds very dull and flat to me.
I have a PODxt Live with the bass expansion, which should be exactly the same, right? It's not active but it has an active preamp. It has two volume knobs and two EQ knobs, and I recorded it with the EQs both flat and the volumes both on full. I've never used DR strings on a bass. How do they compare to Slinkys?
  12. I've been trying to get a decent tone with my Schecter 5 string bass but I can't seem to get it to sound how I want it. I'm using a PODxt live and I think I should probably switch to something else. Here's how my bass sounds with no amp sim (basically using my PODxt as a DI box): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2_jh0IVqxw I want to get a growly aggressive slightly overdriven bass sound. I really like the bass tone on The Bedlam in Goliath and Lateralus. So, first step: I think I could do with some new strings. I'm used to playing Ernie Balls and these strings feel a bit dull. Has anyone got a decent bass tone from a POD? Or shall I start looking at SansAmp stuff?
  13. Where in Surrey are you? I'm in London so I could do collection?
  14. Pics... The bass is in really good condition. There is a bit of sticky-gluey stuff on the front where someone stuck something on there, but I've just been too lazy to clean it. I had a look on eBay's completed items to get an idea of how much they are worth and this was the only result: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=190327405406 So £250 seems reasonable. I'm in London and cash on collection would be ideal
  15. Argh, typical I've been looking for one of these basses for ages, then the day one comes up for sale it's sold before I find it! If the deal falls through, let me know!
