Very Nice - I'll forward them to Peter.

    Peter Cook, The Final Cut. . . . or is it? ? ? ?

Peter Cook - The Final Cut

    Cheers. :)

  2. For what it's worth. . . . .

    It's a Classic Peavey, so. . . . . I've got one.

On a lone to a younger learner, at the mo' - struggling with his Pacifica - getting
on with the T-15 much better.

As pointed out, it's the proper thing, not a toy - the best bit is the sound.
    The pickups are stunning.
Some really great sounds - surpised your guitarist gave it back to you.

    Good luck with the sale.

    Cheers. :)

  3.
many thanks, dont really want to sell but im desperate for a trace head, and there is one on here for sale at the right price £250 so if any one wants to snap my hands off feel free
Oooooo!! :)

I can't bear this any longer - I have to feed my "Noah's Ark Syndrome"

Cracking Basses - I'll give it a good home.

I already have one and this is too good a deal to let it slip. :)

Will PM you later to sort out.

    Cheers. :D

  4.
Amazing! Wanted a cheap bass to customise a little, and just finished it tonight.

I'm absolutely blown away with the results! I've played basses costing 5 times more which haven't hit the spot in the same way!

    Yamaha RBX270 black off Gumtree £ 70
    Wilkinson bridge w/brass saddles £ 15 (I think)
    Dimarzio model p/j (cream) £100
    Cream speed knobs. £ 5
    CTS wiring kit. £ 15
    TOTAL. £205!

It sounds friggin awesome! I've owned a fair few basses, and this is amazing for the money i've spent. Would highly recommend this recipe for anyone looking for an inexpensive bass that plays and sounds great, or as a decent backup.
I'm with you on that one.

I bought an RBX270 Fretless, about 5 years ago - love it.
Lent it to loads of players - all said the same and mine is stock!

    Thump away!!

    Cheers. :)

  5.
Ok there must be some admirers of twin-neck instruments out there. I'm starting to play a bit of guitar as well as bass. My band is a trio with keys and the keys player has some bass pedals, which could free me to play little bits of guitar ocassionaly.

So what does anyone know about twin-necks?
    What are the pitfalls?
Any particular makes and models to GAS hard for or to avoid at all costs?

Just to give a pointer on my tastes, I'm into classic Fender-ish tones and styles.
    Thanks for any advice.
And if you know of any going for sale at a good price, please let me know.
I love Twin Necks!! I guess it's a Marmite thing!

    What are you after - 4 & 6, 4 & 8, 4 & 4 (one fretless) or 6 & 12?

The only one I don't have it a 4 & 4 - if I'm honest, my fretless playing is OK
but not worth me trying to show I can do both and not really pulling it off.

Let me know what you're after.

DomInSomerset made a cracking Twin, using my Peavy Zodiac as a template - turned
out really well. That was a 4 & 4 - might be worth having a chat with him.
They are a bit heavy, but you don't play them all night!! :)

    Cheers. :)

EDIT. Muppett!! You said 4 & 6 in the post!!
    Must try harder Eric!!!
    Sorreeee!!

    Something like this. . . .

My advice would be if you are a better bass player than a guitarist, see
if you can find a rare 6 at the top - 4 at the bottom - easier to get on with!

  6.
It also says "Made In Japan", which realistically is what a Hondo needs to say in order for it to be considered not to be Korean, and probably plywood! That's actually a lovely bass, if a bit beat-up & well worth what it went for.

The other one's just your standard Samick-made Korean cheapo, as are the overwhelming majority of Hondos. Pretty much everything else I know about Hondos is already in the other thread you mentioned.

    J.
I have one of these. Hondo

    What a cracking bass.

If you ever see one, go for it.

    I promise I won't bid . . . . . . . . Honest!! :P :) :)

    Cheers. :D

  7.
I'd like to contribute that I'm probably going to gig with my all original Ned Callan on saturday. That's its first outing since spending a lot of time being brought back up to scratch.
If possible, I'll share some pics and soundclips after i'm done.
That would be really great! :)

I have tried to find other owners but with only around 50 customs made, as well as the
stuff he did for John, the only things made in any quantity were the Ned Callan Range
and its been tough trying to track any of them down.

    Cheers. :)

  8.
Electra Outlaw obscure? I don't fink so, matey! :D So obscure it's famously played by an indisputable Prog titan, and inspires both heinous modifications in surviving examples and lookey-likey custom tributes? Naaah. I've only got the one Kasuga (and it's a not-very-obscure Rick copy) but I still win. :P

And it was one of the scabby planks with "Odyseey" scratched on the top I was after - very generous of you to offer them both!

Anyway - one form my own shed:

    J.
Oh dear!! :)

Until I scrolled down to this post, I thought I had pulled out my ace card!
    I thought "I bet he's never seen another one of these". . . . . .

. . . . . and then you pull that out of the bag!! :)

Shall we mutually agree to fold this hand and start another??!!

  9.
I've heard they're rubbish Eric, I only want one because the name sounds like a prog concept album... Of course, having two of the things cluttering the place up must be unbearable, I'd be doing my charitable duty by taking one off your hands! :)

Anyway, I approve of the way this thread's heading, and it deserves an unidentified Kasuga through-neck, probably early 80s:

And if anyone spots one of these, in the UK & at a sensible price...

    J.
Aha, this is turning out like a game of cards!! :)

    "I'll match your Kasuga, through-neck, probably early 80's and raise you with this . . . . .!"

You would need two Kasugas to beat my Electra!

Erm, it's just occured to me, you already have one, don't you?

P.S - Ref your revious post. . . . . If you only want an Odyssey for the name,
I've got a couple of planks that I can scratch "Odyssey" on the head . . .
    that'll do you then!!
    Usual address?? :D

  10.
Ross - spotted that last night and didn't bother PMing you because of his eye-watering price. However - did you see what he paid for it in December? :)

No idea why I never spotted that first time around, though.

    J.
Bugger! How did I miss that one!! :)

  11.
Aha - might have guessed that would pique your curiosity, Mr Flat! Very regrettably - not mine, this one turned up on US Ebay a couple of years ago & is only the second example I've seen. In fact it might've been the same one twice.

Moving along, personally I'd say any thread called "Obscure Vintage Basses" would benefit from some Attila Balogh Odyssey action, know wot I mean, squire?

    J.
Aha, you mean these. . . . .

    Odyssey Bass

    Odyssey and another Odyssey

    Both Together!!

Don't know why you are interested, Jon - these are lousy basses, impossible to play, no good live
and you would not want one - so if you see another one, please let me know!! :D :P :) :)

    Cheers. :D

  12.
For a thread entitled "Obscure Vintage Basses" this is displaying a singular lack of obscure vintage bass content! I'll give you the Hag, sort of, but no Fender Precision, even one painted SnotBurst, in any sense qualifies as obscure!

So, have an Epiphone Scroll to chew on:

Now go post something interesting! :)

    Jon.
Mmm, bit of a tease!!

Let's see the whole thing, then!! :)

  13. Peter Cook - Custom Guitar Builder.

    Next part.
    Peter Cook - Custom Builds

Be warned "Four Stringers" - there is Guitar and Twin Neck content,
    so those of a nervous nature. . . . . . . Look away now!!! :) :D

Still looking for any owners/previous owners of a Peter Cook Bass or Guitar.
    Anyone out there?? :)

    Cheers. :P

  14.
€908 = £765. Bloody hell.

    That bass is a Hondo.

    J.
Just seen this.

    CHOKE!!!

    This is madness!!

I've got 3 "Fakers" and all would be better than that!!!!

    I'm off to prepare the listings . . . . . . . . . :) :D

Oooh, nurse - pass me a cold flannel!! :)

    Cheers. :P

  15.
Hey !
I received the FlatEric's T-40 yesterday. She's absolutely beautifull and very good playable.
I'm very happy with and don't regret my buy.
    Some pics from France !

    "Merci"
Bonjour!

Glad you like it - pics look very good.

Let me know when you have recorded some stuff with it.

    Cheers. :D
awesome! that is a stunner!
. . . . . . . . . . 1982!!! :) :)

    Only teasing!!

    Cheers. :P

  16.
Guys,
Oliver (senmen) here. I have to step in into that.
Well, for us it is all clear what is going on here. Money making. Period.
To me as a big JE fan and this from the heart this thing is absolutely damaging Johns heritage.
As for the Deans. No comment....
I have owned and played Alembic JE Spyder 4 and 8string, my custom Alembic Dragon Wing Tears for John, my old Buzz2, a Warwick Buzzard, my actual B2 and now also my B1. And I must say: nothing beats the B1. Nothing.
But spending 6,5K on that Dean Spyder. Well, for that money I would rather buy a used Alembic JE Spyder from the 2003 limited series.
    As for Warwick and Status:
there is something that is not true. Warwick is still producing and advertising the Buzzard. He is now named JE Buzzard. What Chris said is to my knowledge not totally ok. The rights on the name John Entwistle in collaboration with musical instruments is stopped now and therefore now given to Dean.
BUT: the most serious thing is that Warwick could convince the lawyers that he was the designer of the Buzzard and not JE or better said he could convince the lawyers that he did provide more design details than JE.
And that is the problem. Everyone who will try to produce a Buzzard will be sued by Warwick!
Therefore no go for Status even if Chris is saying no problem!
As for Alembic. I talked to them yesterday as I really have a good relationship to them. They are not amused and will communicate that to Dean. But there are no existing copyrights so it might be taken as is.....
    Cheers
    Oliver
Mmm, good point.

Extract from my blog - Peter Cook feature "words from the man himself"

"John said he liked the T’bird body & fittings but he preferred the
Precision neck – he gave me the hardware and I did the rest.
When the pickups & bridges ran out I made them as well.
I think there were about six Fenderbirds and 6 Explorerbirds . . ."

    So, in theory. . . . . . . They are "Peter Cook" "Tributes" :)

    Cheers. :)

  17.
Roughly £475. Funnily enough the seller says it's an '83 model. Is he wrong?
Hi. Not an 83!
83 Serial numbers run from 0130xxx to 0169xxx

If it was an 83, it would have Blade Pick-ups and later on, "Bat" type switches.

    Like this.

    £475!!!!!!!!

I have just sold the one at the bottom of the pic, to France - delivered, for less than that!

Nice bass - perhaps they are VERY rare round your way!
If you want one, let me know - I am finally selling some of them off.

    Cheers. :)

  18.
Made in Japan Aria Pro II Laser Electric Classic, 4-string, 34" (860mm) scale length, 40mm nut width, 18mm pitch. Alder body, with three-piece, bolt-on maple neck, and rosewood touchboard, with graphite nut. MB-III (P-style) and MB-JI (J-style) pickups, with volume control, tone control, three position selector switch, and phase reverse mini toggle switch. Diecast, chromed bridge and mini, enclosed tuners. Finished in black. Tried to highlight the superficial cracks in the paintwork, and chips/nicks in the finish. There's a small nick in the finish of the neck, behind the fourth fret, and the mini toggle switch is a little gritty (probably needing cleaned). Otherwise everything works as it's supposed to. £225, including postage within mainland UK.
Made in Japan, Aria Pro II SB600, dating to '85, and manufactured by Matsumoku. Centre block comprising maple and rosewood, with maple wings, and three-piece set neck, with rosewood touchboard, 860mm (34") scale length, 45mm nut width, and 16mm pitch. MB-II double coil pickup, with volume and tone controls, and phase reverse mini toggle switch. Chromed, die-cast bridge and mini, enclosed "APII" branded tuning gear, and brass nut. Finished in gloss back, with natural centre section. £275, including postage within mainland UK.

In fair to good condition aesthetically for a bass that was gigged extensively. Body finish shows a number of marks, but the neck and touchboard are in excellent condition, and frets show very little wear. Pickup and electrics in full working order and all original, except for the mini toggle switch (replaced circa '98). Hardware in full working order and all original, except for the volume and tone knobs (now knurled chrome).

  19.
Anyone know what size socket fits the truss rod please?

    Did you find one Eric?
The inside of the socket you will need, measures 8.15mm, flat face to flat face.
The OD wants to be no greater than 11.3mm.
As I said, I have one you can borrow, which I will try and dig out today.
Do you want that one or are you able to sort it at your end?

    Cheers. :)
