1. What a great article - first time I have seen this.

A few months back I got in touch with them directly about something and got
an instant reply and the upmost in customer relations.

With my little lot, I get through quite a few strings - mostly Rotosound.

Made in Britain - can't be bad.

Cheers. :)

2. I knew it, I just knew it!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought, I know this - I do know this and then I thought, no - give up,
put it out to the BC community and the answer would be there.

Less than half an hour later, the old grey cells kicked into life and it came back to me!! ;)

Ray Cooper!!!! :D

http://www.raycooperguitars.com/

That's that sorted - when I next have a memory relapse. . . . . . . I'll put it up on here.

Wishing all on BC and Happy Cristmas and a Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

Cheers. :)

3. Mornin' all! :)

I have seen this logo before but can't pin it down.

I have made the image as bright as I can but the logo is a fish with it's tail flipped over it.
You can just see that the nut has detailing between the strings and there is a machined
shoulder all around the head.

I just can't put my finger on it - any ideas?

Described as a Custom from the late 70's - any old gits (like me) out there can ring any
bells for me???

Maya Fretless P. Said to be from the same factory as Ibanez/Tokai. I usually think of 'the Ibanez factor' being Fujigen, and of Tokai having its own factory. But it's been mentioned before that things are more complicated than that.

I've got one of these - an absolute cracker.
Mine is as original, with black pick-ups and I think Jon is right, my tuners
don't look like those.

Nice old bass.

:)

5. I've played several, over the years and the best, by far - for me,
is this one.
Medium scale, wonderful tones and 8 separate saddles - intonation is bang on.

Not easy to find but start the search now and at some point. . . . .

Cheers. :)

6. Hi.

These basses punch way above their weight.

Not many players have had the chance of having a go on one but when they do. . . . . :gas:

May I suggest some better shots, show that the cracking in the neck is superficial
and not structural - you might find some takers.

These things go for £500.00 - £700.00 ish, so the price is about right.

These really are cracking basses.

That's my 2p's worth. :D

Cheers. :)

7. Does anybody here remember the old Doris Stokes gag. . . . .
a "Happy Medium"

I do like mine set almost flat and set it - leave the cover off for
a week and if OK, put the cover on.
All my stuff is either in the warm and dry, in transit (LDV actually! :D )
or being played at a gig or rehearsal, so no extrmes of temp or humidity.

I very rarely touch them again - if ever.
A change of string brand or gauge may require a tweek but only then.

Try and keep 'em cosy - you may not have to be always fine tuning.

Cheers. :)

8. I just love these things - it just goes to show what a diverse bunch we are, when it comes to
covers and yet through all of that, certain numbers keep coming up.

It's also useful to note down ones that you hadn't thought of and give them a go.

Got dash but will do mine later.

Cheers. :)

I picked up a Foundation earlier in the year - love the Super Ferrite pickups in it. Like a Jazz bass but less polite.
Very well described!
Great balance, luvverly neck and a bit more bark than you would expect!

This is mine.
A cracking bass in many respects.

Cheers. :)

I have just missed out on getting a Peavey Foundation bass & I feel gutted about it. I have owned a few Peavey basses my first Pro bass was a T-40 which was stolen, and I've owned the far east versions of the Cirrus & International series. But recently I have had bad gas for the American made Peaveys, Foundation,Dyna, Fury etc. I've always had a soft spot for Peavey basses as they, were the only pro basses that were sold were I used to live. The daft thing is I already have a Ric 4003 & a '64 Hofner violin bass, but I'm going to save and look out for a USA Peavey only this time I'm keeping it.
Hi.

I have now sold my Fury, to Paul S (above) and have still got a "Line around the head" USA Foundation
and Foundation Fretless - They are a seriously good bass!!
I have promised myself to reduce the size of my collection and I am achieving it, v e r y s l o w l y!
I have more than a handful of T-40's so if you are looking for a good one, drop me a PM.
If you see a line around head Foundation - Grab it!!

They also did the T-45, a great bass in it's own way.
The early Patriot is also another great bass.

Good luck in scratching your USA Peavey itch!

Cheers. :)

Thank you for a most enlightening and entertaining blog post. Nice work, Sir.

As for guitar trashing, I'm not opposed in principle - people can do whatever they like with their own property and after all, it's only a bit of wood and metal. As for destructive onstage mayhem, few have surpassed the late Ms Wendy O Williams (NSFW)

Thanks SD. :)

Just like to make it clear that the post on my blog was about the aquisition of the parts from his Strat.

Although a massive fan of his playing, always a bit squeemish about a fine instrument being destroyed.
If defined by the likes of Jon (Bassassin) as "firewood" - I don't think I would have a problem. :D

Just wanted to make my position clear.

Cheers. :)

Richie Blackmore used to swap his strat for a cheapo woolworths special before sacrificing it on the alter of Rock 'N' Roll and the Marshall stacks he used to destroy were made of cardboard. It was all just pantomime for the teenage boys in the front row.

I hope this bit of inside information has calmed you down.

How ironic! :)

I have litterally done a blog post about Ritchie Blackmore!!!

Read this and you'll see that in the day, he went for it with the real thing.

Those of a nervous disposition, look away - lot's of smashing - some with
No Name Makes, but not always!!

14. In today's Made in Korea/Made in China market, we look at a bass for a couple of hundred quid
and think that'll do me - when I get better, I'll get something a bit more special.

Things were different back then and for your £ in your pocket - a lot more painful.

Almost EVERYTHING back then, was, in real terms, a lot more than we pay now.

In todays money, the £165.00 listed in '75, would be £1173.35!!! OUCH.

Don't think it would realise anything like over a grand but the one you have looks nice enough
(well looked after) and not that many around - try and find another one like that.

I use this as an indicator - just to amuse myself.

Sweet! :)
Still Sweet. :)

Compared to so many other instruments out there (and there are many other great ones, as well)
these things just Ooooooozze Quality.
It's only when you get the chance to play one, you realise.

Good luck with the sale - worth every penny.

:)

16. This is from a previous post on this subject - this is what mine
looks like, for not many $$$$ :)

I made this one from Platfoam.

If the material you use to seperate the cab from the floor is too thin/hard, it will still transfer sound.
If the foam is too soft there's a chance your cab and amp will easily be knocked over!!

This works a treat and was covered in another Gramma thread.

Won't go anywhere without it now!

Cheers. :)

17. Nice and Rare!

Cody Bass.

When I did a feature on Peter Cook, in my blog, the "Neds" come up quite a bit in the interviews.
They liked the name, from the TV Series.
The "in joke" in the band Peter was in at the time was that they all called each "Ned"

Can I join the queue behind Ash???? :gas: :gas: :gas:

Cheers. :)
