1. Actually this is the first "non-ash" bodied bass I like. So far every alder bass hasn't been my cup of tea (even the great Trace Elliot T basses).
2.
Wow, that looks lush. The figuring on the rosewood board is beautiful and subtle.
That's what Brazilian Rosewood is known for
3. Markbass SA450 -> Aguilar GS112 & GS112 NT (both with Eminence DeltaLites II 2512) Ampeg V4BH -> Sadowsky SA410
4. My MV5 with Sadowsky Single Coils and VTC: My brand new NYC PJ5:
5.
Cheers for the input fellas.... I like the Bassbone as it's got an effects loop and I can add some effects i.e. my valve sound, chorus and delay which are important to my set up....
The BassBone looks good on paper, but the switches don't last very long, the eq points are not very bass guitar "friendly". Further you'd need a "Y" cable for the effects loop. I had one, sold it long ago and I don't like back.
6. I have been playing my new Sadowsky NYC PJ5 for 9 days and did one gig. It is my 3rd Sad and the two previous Sads (MV5 & M5-24 (sold)) were by far the best instruments I owned (and I owned a lot) but this one is really the bomb! My band mates commented about the same at the gig. It's a rev. PJ5 with alder body and brazilian rosewood fingerboard. That is why my Sandberg PM5 has to go in order to pay for this new beauty. If anyone is interested: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;gopid=595916
7. I am selling my Demeter Compulator Compressor pedal. This compressor thickens the sound in the lows and give it a motown-like quality. www.demeteramps.com/products/pedals/comp1.html The unit is in very good shape. It has velcro on the bottom to fix it on a pedal board. As my new bass is bigger in the lows than my old one, I would like to use a more neutral sounding compressor. I would like to get 140€ shipped to anywhere in Europe. As for trades, I am looking for a Maxon CP-9Pro+. confidence check: my ebay username is gillento and I have more than 200 auctions with 100% positive feedback rating.
8. Some more specs: weight (on my digital bathroom scale): 4.2 kg neck thickness: at 1st fret: 21 mm at 12th fret: 24 mm
9.
Is there something missing from the "A " String Machine Head? It looks different to the rest.
Hi, Thanks for making me aware. I found the screw in the gig bag and fixed it. I didn't gig that bass a lot. It passed most of its time in a case.
10. I added a second picture of the crack. It is located on the back, rather at the top, just above the MM pickup.
11. Apparently there seems to be a problem with the link I provided. It seems to be a flash or Java issue. Anyway, I put the pics on a different server as well: http://homepage.mac.com/WebObjects/FileSha...leSharing1.html
12.
Oh man, that's a whole lotta bass for the money! Congratulations to whoever gets to buy it. How would you describe the character of the Haussel pickups compared to the stock ones? I'm thinking of doing a similar upgrade to my Sandberg JM4. Best of luck with the sale! cheers // Matt
The Häussels have AlNiCo magnets as opposed to ceramic/steel magnets in the Sandberg PUs. I don't know if you are familiar with AlNiCo characteristics, but in short, they sound warmer, less brittle. To me they sound more "organic" and respond better to playing dynamics. Another feature of the AlNiCos is that they "make" the string sound fatter when played up the neck (the string comes closer to the PU). To my ear AlNiCos "play better" with effects, most of all with overdrive / distortion. As you might notice, I am really an AlNiCo fan
13.
Mmmmmm that looks very fine! Just to vouch for Gillento. I have dealt with him before on TB and it is all good.
Thanks
14.
String spacing at the bridge?
Spacing at the bridge is 18 mm neck width at zero fret: 46 mm neck width at 12th fret: 65 mm
15.
hmmm.... that looks nice.... I've been trying out Sandberg basses recently & I'm very impressed.... rare to see a maple board
It was a custom order. The body wood and colour combo as well. Usually they are doing solid colors with Alder bodys. Ash is usually used for bursts.
16. As I have a new custom bass arriving, I am forced to sell my Sandberg California PM5. It has a few factory custom options: -ash body in Lake Placid Blue (LPB) -maple neck in Vintage tint Usually Sandberg California series basses come in Alder/Rosewood wood combination. more custom items: -custom wound Harry Haussel AlNiCo pickups (the MM pickup can be switched parallel or serial) -Sadowsky preamp with Vintage Tone Control included is: -additional white shell pickguard -Sandberg gigbag (unused) -original Sandberg pickups -3 tools (allen keys) -invoice for the bass (February 2008) and the Haussel pickups (May 2008) This bass has not been played a lot as it has been mainly my backup bass. But it has some dings and scratches nevertheless. All of them are shown in the pictures below. I would like to have 800 euros for the whole package shipped to anywhere in Europe. confidence check: my ebay username is gillento and I have more than 200 auctions with 100% positive feedback rating. Here you'll find exhaustive pics: http://www.loes.lu/loes.lu/for_sale.html
17.
Not wishing to derail this thread but are HK anything to do with Hughes and Kettner? It isn't just the initials that has me asking; they are both German based and HK literature mentions 'Dynaclip' (tm) limiting which I thought was trademarked to H&K! <edit> A ha! Just noted HK are based in St Wendel in Germany which IIRC is where H&K are based... may have answered my own question.
Yes they are definitely related!
18. Well, this is my first post in this forum. I play mainly a Sadowsky MV5 with Nordstrand NJ5 single coils. My "backup" bass is a custom Sandberg PM5 with maple neck, Häussel AlNiCo PUs and a Sadowsky preamp. I am eagerly waiting for my Sadowsky NYC 5 string PJ5 to be finished here's a rather complete list of stuff I am using regularly: http://www.loes.lu/loes.lu/Gear.html
