13. Hi Guys Had a new bridhe fitted to my bass and decided to not have any pickups installed for now. So up for sale is my Bass Balseriet pickup the pickup is conical shaped which is drilled in to the bridge on the bass side http://www.bassbalsereit.de/ and has an XLR with a pre-amp inside which you attach to the tail piece which is phantom powered. If you use an Acoustic Image the phantom power switch on it works great, if not Samson make a really good one. The pickup is mega and can be tuned by turning it when installed as I'm not gigging at all on upright I don't need it. They are 439.00 Euro's new so I'm asking £ 200.00 ono. Many thanks Laurence
14. Cheers Geoff but I'm sticking with what I know.
15. So I had a chat with my luthier last night and he thinks the reason my legs wrapped (other than the adjusters and BassBalseriet pickup) was due to the Belgian style Despiau bridge on the bass which has much longer legs and less mass he also said the bridge wasn't aged which was another factor. He's putting on a very nice Aubert Deluxe old selected Maple bridge, the bridge has much shorter less and more mass and because it's been aged for up to 30 years will be much stable and vastly improve the sound, we decided not to put installed the BassBalseriet pickup so that's going to be available if anyone is interested. Both Clarky ans Keith have kindly offer to lend me pickups once I get the bass back so I will see what works best. Interstingly I was old told that the Correlli Tungsten strings sound pretty darn good last night low tension and big sound and they bow really well has anyone tried them? Cheers Laurence
16. Very interesting Roger the bass player with Tord Gustavsen band uses an Underwood and sounds incredible probably because he is incredible as is Dave Holland I think I'm going to go down that root for now. I just need something that works and doesn't distract from just playing which is the most important thing for me. I read that the Fishman Dual Parametric DI is the best product Fishman ever made and now discontinued is a fantastic pre-amp you can get them second.
17. The K10's sounds to be a winner has anyone tried the K12. I did use a MarkBass 15 combo for a while but the amp is truly not suited to the double bass. Did you all try the K10 before you purchased it or did buy purely on reviews? My bass is harder to amplify using a mic than a 3/4 bass and the Realist works best on something 3/4 size bass IMHO. I did a CD recently with a fantastic ribbon mic great sound on it's own it would the perfect live sound but impossible to use in a modern jazz situation. Glad to hear you can get a decent sound with Underwood Roger it my not be ideal but at least it works not forgetting a certain Mr Holland is still using one, do you reckon a pre-amp is essential.
18. It sounded the best in to an Avalon M5 but they are serious money I used it with an Acoustic Image Ten2 and it sound pretty decent but with bleed etc from the kit I ended up using more pickup. So have you ditched pickups altogether? How good is the QSC powered 10?
19. I have to say I've been under whelmed by the Headway ever time I've tried it. It didn't work very well with the Realist and was really disappointed when I used it with the DPA but I think it was down to my bass rather than the gear. The DPA sounds great FOH though.
20. I see Underwood have a new website also hear the Planet Pickups small in the wing pickup is ok anyone tried it?
21. Thanks Greg sounds like a great pickup but a huge financial investment with the Schertler and QSC powered 10 having spent mega bucks already I'll leave that option alone for the time being.
22. TJP many thanks for the offer Spencer B I had a 4099B are great but I could never use it on it's own I have a big 7/8 bass and with that and blend from drums it was impossible to use it on it's own. I recorded a live cd with it last year and it still feedback until we built a make shift isolation booth. What you plug yours in too? I agree the Realist will do your head now. If Greg see's the post he might jump in and explain the Schertler Dyn B which uses and is very natural just takes time to get use too and costs around £ 650.00 now. Cheers Laurence
23. Thanks for all the advice and offer of the pickups I'll be in touch when I get the bass back. The BB wasn't mounted near the adjusters but the combo of BB adjusters the downward pressure on my bass anyway has caused the legs to slay out ward and caused all the trouble. So I'm going to try something else. The Realist was fine it broke that's 3 that I've had that's done that. So it's time to get something none invasive that at least works and use it with my Avalon U5 to get a decent sound, I know Marc Johnson uses one inbetween his pickup and Acoustic Image amp.
24. Hi Roger The BassBalseriet pickup is the one coupled with the adjusters which has warped by bridge legs twice I agree it sounds great mines the phantom powered one with the pre-amp in the XLR RRP £ 450.00 but it's the second time it's happened it less than a year. So it's going to be up for sale on here. I thought an Underwood would be a good stop gap I have an Avalon U5 which makes everything sound better which will help with sound. It's a pity I didn't have it when I had a full circle but having done a couple of albums with the full circle bonk I had to get rid of it. Any help would be great. Cheers Laurence
