+1. It's a shame that John Hall's attitude clouds people's perception of Rickenbacker's products. I currently own two Stingrays, a 74 and 64 Precision, and a Shuker. They're all great basses, but it's my Ric 4003 which I pick up first and which puts the biggest smile on my face. Love them, or hate them, at least they're different :)

I've had a few pints and even done a pub quiz with John Shuker.

    Take note, Mr Hall

"My diarrhea has been intermittent all day ..."

This reminds me of our old singer. He used to get extremely nervous, which would, seemingly, tear his insides up. Horrifyingly so. To give a full description would be to induce a ban for myself.

Thus, the words I dreaded. Four pints in, wondering if my seal was breaking, when over he walks:

"There's only one toilet... And, boy, you do not want to go in there!"

Does affect your timing, needing to pee

Exactly this. Demand for Rickenbackers still significantly exceeds supply, in spite of JH's efforts to make it otherwise in the UK. This means they can work to a business model of selling relatively small volume at a significant premium. They simply have no need to enter the volume, lower margain, market.

Depends on his ambition, of course. They have no need to do any of those things, provided the status quo is sustainable and to the want of the business. With a brand like the one they have, they'd almost struggle to fail.

If they are using CNC, then they're considering both costs and throughput. Sensible enough to do.

John Hall and his acolytes seem to be slacking, as I've seen several Rick copies run to the completion of their auctions on eBay recently. This has been UK auctions, so maybe someone at eBay has finally wised up to them not being in violation of trading laws for private sellers ...

So there might be hope for all of us, yet?

Not that I'd be selling any of mine just yet. Loads of fun to be had.

  5. We only did it once with our singer - at which point we were pretty direct with our feedback and made him pay for the rehearsal.

He never did it again :)

I think you just need to be clear with him - about both the investment you've made and the expectations that you have, and really set out your stall about what is acceptable and what not. Even in "just for fun" bands a little honesty can go a long way. and help keep it fun for everyone :)
