1. Anyone (and I'm looking at you, Ashdown, as they haven't hit the stores yet!) know how the Rootmaster 420 compares to the MiBass 2.0 in terms of tone?

I can see the difference in features between them. They appear to have an identical street price and will surely appeal to a similar audience? So how do they differ in tone? Has the MiBass 2.0 effectively been replaced by the Rootmaster?

  2. Have you considered a Yamaha TRBX504? Great active and passive sounds. Lakland 44-02 has already been mentioned. Also look at Ibanez ATK800 - an amazing bass. With regards to the G&L, I much prefer the M2000 over the L2000 even though it doesn't have quite as many sounds; the ones it does have sound better IMHO.

  3. I've got the 4-string version. Truly amazing bass regardless if price. The fact it's (in relative terms) so cheap is just a bonus. Yamaha hit the bullseye with this one. The TRBX304 is also excellent though the 504 is worth the extra. Once the word is out these basses will be very popular indeed.

I did forget the tte 500. I really loved it when I was testing light weight heads.
but isn't there the tte 800 already?
Yes, the TTE800 is out but it has a digital power amp so (although I haven't tried the 800), it's likely to sound slightly different and not quite as warm. Like the difference between the Little Mark and the F500. So, given the style of amp, I reckon the TTE500 is the better choice. Plus it's certainly not lacking in power!

  5. I love EMG's. As has been said above, criticism tends to come from folks who were after a more traditional sound (and should have done their homework prior to purchase!). There are enough other brands offering vintage style pickups and I think it's great that EMG have differentiated themselves by offering something unique and innovative. Oh, and a blatant plug for the EMG HZ's I've got for sale here:

Rich, clean and all-valvey in a lightweight package ?

Markbass TTE 500. Using the colour knob, you can make it as detailed or thick as you wish (although it sounds subtle out of the mix).

Try one. I didn't think a hybrid could get "there" but it does.
+1 from me on this. The TTE500 seems to be a bit of a secret. Everyone who tries it thinks it's arguably the best hybrid head available. Authentic vintage tube sounds as well as crystal clean modern sounds. I really can't understand why there's not more hype about this head. It's fantastic!

  7. My band, Radio Seattle, will be playing at The Shed in Leicester this Friday, 19th October. We'll be on stage a 8:30pm and entry is just £5.00.

We are a tribute band to the Seattle Grunge scene playing songs by Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains and more!

Please come along and say hello! :)

    Cheers,

    Richard
