Repect...

Glad to hear you're back on the bass but sorry to hear about the knees. Get well soon! :)

  2.
Joe Osborn played bass on pretty much all the Mamas and Papas albums.
ah, I didn't know that! well you learn something every day eh?

also a +1 for James Leach, absolutely great guy, got to meet him after a gig! Also he uses some exceptionally nice basses (see pic) methinks it's a custom christ macintyre (spelling?) jazz. Could someone give me the correct spelling of that? I think he's based in London, he makes some very nice basses, I'd like to track him down again...

    loverly... :)

Ah! Found the bass website on his myspace... http://www.mcintyreguitars.com/

    Gorgeous!

  3. Hmm, I could never get on with my SGC...though looks wise I always thought it was pretty sweet, especially how the finish continued up the neck (see the pic).

Though apparently some came with Paduak tops at some point according to the shop that sold me mine. Mine also had Seymour Duncan PU's on an active circuit. Probably a retrofit but hey.

Also if anyone is interested in buying one, last time I was in a store near me there was a 5 string (possibly a 325?) SGC in white with the SGC pickups, rosewood board and matching headstock. PM me if anyone wants the info :)

    Cheers,

    Ash

Oh yeah and here she was when I had her...

  4.
The 4 strings are Japanese whilst the 5's are American.
A while ago I think I got offered a US 4 string in a trade? Of course I'm probably wrong but did they maybe switch production to japan at some point?

  5.
I'm slightly put off my what *looks* like areally wide string spacing. Mebbe it's just that hooj bridge that makes it look that way?
Possibly, though I think camera perspective and how they took the photo might be making it look wider than it is.

Never been much of a bongo fan but that one does look sweet!

  6. Good lord :)

That's a helluva hit that's taken, it's always sad to see a good bass go down

I'm now slightly worried myself now, I've just sent a mixer to Copenhagen with parcelforce :S . Luckily it's below £150 in value and it's boxed with ridiculous amounts of bubble wrap but still...

This sucks, I hope everything works out for you,

    Ash

  7. The dude from maroon 5 (Mickey Madden?) possibly?

I think his lines are subtle and really add depth to some of their songs. For instance "Sunday Morning", I think the bassline makes that song.

Also the guy who did bass on alot of mamas and papas tracks, in particular "dream a little dream..." for the same reasons. It isn't exceptionally technical or flashy but it really adds to the song.

    My two cents.

    Ash :)
