1. For sale, my unique USA FSR Dakota Red 75 re-issue from 2001, excellent condition. This was a one-off prototype bass produced by the Fender USA R&D department for Guitar Centre, to try out Dakota Red on a 1975 style bass with matching headstock (as you know, a non-standard 1975 feature). It plays and sounds better than the two other '70s Jazz Basses I own and is built/finished as well as any custom shop Jazz bass I've tried. Quite a unique serial number of 00099 on the neck-plate.

It has an alder body, maple neck and choice rosewood fingerboard with pearl blocks and binding, pencil-thin neck and capable of a very low action without buzz (though I like a medium-high action personally...).

Weight is 4.1kg / 9lbs.

I have a letter from Michael Doyle at Fender which confirms provenance and the original pickup covers. Unfortunately, I do not have the original case so would come with a Hiscox. Also comes with hangtags, micro-tilt allen key, etc.

£1500 inc. postage in the UK

Got this frome japan/ischibasi some years ago and they dated the pots 1982 and stated it was original, and frome what I can tell it is, and Ischibashi is very reliable. During this time Leo wasent pleased with Musicman and started G&L, and as what I know Gruver Jackson built them 1982-1984. If that got to do with that it dosent say Musicman on the plate i dont, but if its a big consern Il try to find out.

Love this! Keep coming back to it...

I'd like to know what's going on with the neck plate, if possible? Should have the MM logo on it, as these were still used through the Jackson time and early EB-era (example here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/313721-musicman-stingray-1985-1200/).

Is it also possible to get pictures inside the control cavity, of the preamp, pots, etc.?

Might be worth trying to check that accurately. That’s just over 11.2lbs which would make it one of the heaviest Fender J basses from this era I’ve ever seen (I’ve played P’s that have tipped over 11lbs but J’s tend to be a bit lighter).

That's really not crazily heavy for this era. My 75 Jazz weighs 12.4lbs, and I've played heavier...All Fenders at that time used the inconsistent northern ash, there wasn't a preference for just using it on P Basses!

Keep coming back to look at this though, sounds pretty resonant on the video.

Yeah , l loved the Joni Mitchell stuff also

I'd like to hear someone record some of Jacos work but with a different tone , like on a warm P bass etc , not in anyway a critical comment about his work , just think it would interesting as everyone I have heard with the talent to reproduce his stuff also does a great job with the exact tone. I hope no one takes this the wrong way , I enjoy hearing different takes on wonderful work.

Michael League has a good go here! Takes a little while to get into it though...

I was wondering this. Looks like a Schaller 3D bridge ? Also are the electronics original? The body looks in great nick for its age. If the Stingray body is a vintage it should have a neck stamp in the pocket.

This used to be mine, about 15 years ago! I bought it from Music Ground in Doncaster...It's a Schaller 3D bridge with a base plate. Defo not the original...When I had it it had the standard non-epoxy pre EB preamp of the period, assume that's not changed?

Awesome bass, and always wished I'd never sold it...Currently trying to work out if I can buy it back!

6. Pretty sure the GJ WaT bass tone is a RAT, probably blended with clean? I can get pretty much bang-on this tone with my Jazz Bass and COG Knightfall (OCD derivative) in TK-421 (RAT derivative):

Maybe consider the COG TK or something like the Fuzzrocious Rat Tail that lets you blend in a bit of clean? Probably will get you more in the ball-park, gnarly but not as glassy or fizzy as the DG.

7. Fender American Vintage 60s Jazz Bass Bridge (BBOT)

Official Fender, brand new. In chrome with fittings.

£15 - SOLD inc. postage

Fender American Vintage 70s Jazz Bass Bridge - SOLD

Bought to put in a bitsa, made in USA and as new. Touch of very mild Loctite was added to each saddle height screw, to prevent movement, but each screw is still fully adjustable!

£15 inc. postage - SOLD

8. Another vote for the DiMarzio Model P here, has serious balls and great tone. I took one out of my old Precision and sold it, replaced with a Wizard Trad as I wanted a more vintage tone. The Wizard sounded great, but wasn't anywhere near as exciting as the Model P!

P.s Just to note though, that aside from the above '81 P (which I never should have sold!), my problem with previous P Basses ('73 and '69) was always the E string being louder than / overpowering the others, even with drastic pick up slant...Interesting that you should have the opposite problem!

9. You can still get great honk with the bridge pup in 60s position, Jaco did after all...I definitely get this with the Bareknuckle 60 HF in my 62 AVRI Jazz.

The Wizard 84s are overwound and therefore a darker tone, described here by Hot Rod Pickups who took over from Wizard http://www.hot-rodpickups.com/jb-84-jazz-bass-pickup-565-p.asp
