I have been using Steve for quite a while. He is absolutely excellent and very reasonably priced. Won't use any one else.

It's a bit like Buses. You wait for ages and then 3 come along at once. Just been to pick a Bass up I bought from Ollie Collins and guess what........... He teaches Bass. Lectures at Salford Uni and also does private lessons.
Here are the contact details in case they get added to a pinned post.

Al, Yep, it's the onset of Old Age. At 58, I have the same problem. It takes an age to learn something and quite often have to rely on "crib-sheets" or a couple of gigs.
+1 for get back to Sam & Dave, Otis, Wilson Pickett et al.
We must have a chat about Liverpool Uni if our paths ever cross......

I have been using Alpine Music Safe ear plugs for a while
http://www.enhancedlistening.co.uk/product...D=&P_ID=975
Came away from a gig one night and my ears were screaming. Borrowed some"Rhubarb and Custard" disposables from the drummer but couldn't get on with them.
I find the Alpines great as they are very soft rubber and fit very comfortably. You get 3 attenuators with them and I find they really do work. They particularly cut out the harmful freqs.

Me too. shame the list wasn't brought over from Bass "whatever it was previously". There were a couple of good teachers in Manchester.
I'd love to wife + kids + 20 years too late...say no
It's never too late. I had a 25 year break from playing and in my former life played guitar. Will hit 60 in 2 years and started seriously playing Bass 2 years ago and now hold down the bottom end in 2 bands.
Have never enjoyed my self so much. (Retiring early may have helped)
Moondance is a wicked tune. I learnt it a while ago but have forgotten it since! Think I shall yoink this tab as well!
Think I have the Bass Tab as well if needed. -
No problem guys. Glad my "past" as a guitarist has helped. Don't spread it around or i'll be getting hate mail
Thanks Jennifer
That may help me, I will try that.
Thanks Dood
I have a similar piece of software that will give the notation, but my sight reading is not quick enough, so I need to put the chords on and then I can wing it from there. I will apply Jennifers chords to the notation and see where that takes me.
Thanks both

Steve,
Did a bit of digging and found this in my "guitar" tabs folder. Any use?
With regard to the question of the transition between the two, teh hardest thing I found wasbeing disciplined and not too busy. The bassist needs to be solid and tidy, and cannot generally get away with widdling around, as we all know. C
Very similar to you NottsWarwick. Played guitar from about 13 and had a pretty good semi-pro career until my mid 20's. Marriage and kids saw that off. Had a massive sabatical, (25 years), and when I found the only guitar I had kept, (a Fender Jumbo), in the loft 1 day I started fiddling. Not having a pick to hand I started playing finger style and really got into Spanish and Clasical music. A letter to Guitar Magazine about a series on fingerstyle technique saw me get a free Bass, (the comment Am I really a frustrated Bass Player did it). That started Bass playing in earnest.
I totally agree with NottsWarwick that the hardest part of the transition was "keeping it simple". I really struggled at first trying to play "lead" lines on Bass. Best piece of advice I got was "Whatever notes you are thinking of playing, halve them". If you cannot keep time and groove with the drummer, the band is f*!"ed.
Would I go back to guitar, NOT A CHANCE. I've got the best job in the house.
In the 70's my band at the time supported Medicine Head at Liverpool University. More recently Dave Finnegan (Mickah Wallace in The Commitments) occasionally gets up and sings with us.
*Edit* Nearly forgot - the landlord of one of our regular gigs gets up and beats the skins when we can't fight him off - he was the drummer in Pinkerton's Assorted Colours who were kinda well known in the 60s.
Thats Spooky Alan,
The band I was playing with in the late 60's did Liverpool Uni supporting Pink Floyd and Traffic, (playing guitar then though). Also supported The Who in the same era and Johhny Johnson & The Bandwagon. Also backed Edwin Starr on one gig. -
I play in 2 bands and the Corporate one is now increasingly being asked for PAT Testing Certificates and Public Liability Insurance. Anyone else having the same issues?
The Pub Band don't seem to have the same problem, (but as all my gear has been PAT tested it isn't a problem anyway).
Would it be an idea for a pinned topic with a list of testers in areas around UK as I have a feeling it WILL end up being mandatory at some point?
We had a hell of a job finding someone to our gear as most companies deal with large institutions and not a 5 piece band. -
That's a really neat job. I like the way you've got the grille mounted at the front of the cab - how did you attach it to the sloping horn?
+1 for the Front Mounted Grill. IMHO it makes it look a lot more professional. Also where did you get the handles from?
Ah well better get going on mine -
We have now switched over to the new Basschat skin. It has been tested on IE 6/7, Firefox, Safari and Camino. Please reply here or PM phatmonkey if you have any feedback/problems or find any bugs, especially if you are using a browser we haven't tested.
Thanks!
Great new skin. Gives the site a "class" feel.
I am encountering a weird "feature" though. I have 2 PC's. The 1 running IE7 is fine in that when I select a topic, all posts are visible and more to the poiint readable underneath.
With the PC running IE6, all the post appear as a file structure and I have to "click" on each individual post to read it.
Any ideas,
Stuart -
This cab was made by a friend of mine here in Norwich under his own brand of ELK. The speakers are Celestion as he is a distributor. I believe the power handling is 300 Watts 8 Ohms. I used to run this with another 15" cab as a mini stack but sold the 15" years ago. The cab is carpet covered with recessed handles. Sounds great on its own or paired with a 15". I bought this off of a friend of mine and played a couple of gigs with it but it has been stored under the stairs in my hallway since I moved house 2 years ago. Really need to shift it as the Mrs is looking for more space to store her growing shoe collection.
£100
Could you let me know the dimensions and is it particularly heavy?
Cheers,
Stuart -
Interesting debate and as an "ex-guitarist", I have no desire to go back. Bass is the best job in the house and coupled with a good drummer, is a dynamite combination.
I had an comment from a punter at a gig last week about just that. The guitarists had both turned the volume up and the Drummer and I carried on with our job of providing a really solid groove throughout. This guy noticed it and said it kept everything together. That is what the audience starts tapping their feet to, not a Steve Vai solo.
Try imagining virtually any song without the Bass line and it falls flat.
Yep, best job in the house.
