1. Welcome to Bucks.

Bit further north of Aylesbury, you'll find Buckingham.

The Kings Head have live bands most Fridays and Saturdays (shameless plug - my band is playing there this Friday!)

There is also a "jam night" at the Blackbird pub in Padbury (just before Buckingham) on a Monday.

"Band jam" is also now back on at the White Hart in Buckingham, I believe it's every Thursday but best to check beforehand.

    Alan.

  2. Thanks Redsriper I will probably check out the G&L option. Having said that we had a rare rehearsal session last night and didn't suffer any shoulder problems. Next gig is a week on Saturday followed by a few weekends in sucession so will see how I get on then!

  3. I've been using a MIM Fender Jazz bass for a few years now through my MarkBass amp etc. I reguarly get comments after gigs regards the "nice sound" from my bass so I am happy with the combination apart from the weight of my bass. However, being the wrong side of 50 (I still think I'm 21 though!) I have struggled recently with a bad shoulder after playing and wonder what the options are for a lighter bass.

I really want to stick with a Fender Jazz and wonder if the USA examples are generally lighter - different woods etc. Some feedback from you Fender experts would be great. Thanks.

  4. I'm thinking about getting hold of a "low budget" P bass and wonder if anyone has experience of the Bass Collection Power Bass. Saw them last weekend at the show but didn't get the opportunity to play one.

    Any feedback welcome.

    Thanks.

I have a fantastic MarkBass New York 604 which I could consider exchanging, but don't really want to part with it - and it's not what you've said you'd be looking for anyway, so guess that's a non starter...

I'll keep scratching those lottery tickets...
I might be interested in your New York 604 if you fancy selling so you can buy the 8 x 10. PM me if interested.

Fantastic album and the first album I ever bought!.

I've found though after being useless for a while, something just clicks with the rhythms and it gets much easier almost straight away. Playing the basslines until you dont need to think about them is the key, as mentioned above.
I agree, again as someone who has started doing some backing vocals for a covers band.

Being of the "older generation", one of my bass heroes is Martin Turner of Wishbone Ash who incredibly (IMO) manages to sing and play fairly complex bass lines at the same time!
