My MIM Jazz, 90s I think, has a smooth semi-gloss finish and the profile is thinner than my USA one.

Alvin Lee of Ten Years After was from my home town Nottingham (although I have lived away longer than I lived there now).

+1 from me. Good comms and friendly chat. You will find their stuff on eBay and Reverb marked up significantly, I believe this is to direct people to their main website for the 'real price' to avoid the preposterous fees on those platforms.
Yes, I noticed that myself.

Really enjoyed the Alan Hull documentary. Saw Lindisfarne in the late 70s/early 80s and Rod Clements more recently when a friend of mine was the support act.

I have always plugged direct into the amp. Our old guitarist, now retired, a geat player, had numerous pedals of various sorts. He had countless problems with connections between them though. I remember one gig where all worked well during the first set but he couldn't get any working during the second set so plugged straight into his amp. I didn't like to tell him it didn't sound any different to me!

I had a power supply go on an Ashdown combo a few years ago now. It was a couple of weeks or so out of warranty so a local repair man checked it out for me.
I contacted Ashdown and they sent me a foc psu no quibble. The didn't want the dead psu back either.
Excellent service in my book.

It could be that one has linear and the other log/audio pots, rather than a fault (assuming the volume when they are both up full is comparable). Plenty of advice online about the difference and which might be preferable.
It could also be that they are wired differently (do you know whether either has been modded in any way?). The traditional J bass wiring routes the neck pickup via its own and the bridge pickup volume control, which means they affect each other. You can also wire them so both run direct to the output. I'd take off the control plates, find a wiring diagram (plenty online) and compare them.
Thanks. I am not aware of any mods but will check the wiring and compare both.

I have a USA and a Mexican Fender Jazz bass. I have rarely played the Mex one over the last few years.
I have noticed recently though the different response between the two when adjusting the vol pots. The USA version affects the volume when either pot is only slightly turned up; on the Mex bass I have to turn them until they are on almost full.
Can anyone advise if this is likely to be pots or pick-up problems. Thanks.

I had an email exchange with them a couple of months back about a bass they were advertising. I didn't buy it in the end but was very impressed with their responses to me. Emailed me back at 11pm! Would certainly contact them again if I see something suitable.

I've got both a MIM and USA Jazz bass. While both necks are the same width, the MIM one has a good bit slimmer profile and not as chunky as the USA one.

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers concert on tonight at 9pm. It was also on a couple of months or so, well worth a watch though. (Sky Arts).

We rehearsed Kashmir by Led Zep for a while but never got to play it live before one of our then guitarists retired to live in France.

Played our first gig for 18 months yesterday. It was only an hours set at a local Cricket Cub Fun Day but went reasonably well. A good gentle introduction to gigging proper again.

I saw the original WA line up several times over the years, initially when Ted Turner was still with them. Met Martin Turner a couple of times more recently and had a good chat with him about bass guitars etc. Top man in my book.

Only took a couple of minutes looking at a tab (that misses out the shuffle rythym) then played through, but this is a great fun one I'd love to do live.
It's one we play and always goes down well.

I did mate but it was sad. It was late in his career and he was playing at a festival in Glasgow. He was out of his face on drink or something. He stumbled about messing up his parts and disappearing for long periods leaving the drummer and bassist to carry on. The set was cut short and he died not long after that. It was a sad end to a legendary performer.
Yes very sad. Always came across as a nice bloke in the few documentary films I've seen also.

No problem with the solo leaving a hole in the song. As said before, let the bass and drums do their thing. it's not thin it adds dynamics.
Always regret not seeing Rory Gallagher live.

We use Parcels to Go occasionally at work and sometimes not all of the carriers return with a quote. I believe it depends on their available slots so Interparcel may be the same.
-
I'm not generally good enough to learn and play exact copies (depending on complexities of the song) but try and work an adapted version. This seems to work in my covers band.

It was aerosol paint that i bought
I think it may be only certain couriers that are allowed to ship or maybe suppliers need a special licence. I know my work are not allowed to ship aerosols.

That is good news. One of the very few channels I missed when we cancelled Sky some time ago.

As mentioned above DHL charges rise steeply for parcels over 1 metre in length. Have a look at Parcels to go you may find a good option there.
