  1. I've used several envelope followers over the years.. 1st was a doctor Q by Electro Harmonix ..(pre nano) Then a Dod 25B (I believe it was used by Flea on sir Psycho sexy) then a  bottomfeeder..(which was a boutique clone)  Mooer envelope & Mooer sweeper.. Sweeper has a character of it's own!.. envelope is generic but usable...

I now have the EBS IQ 3 knob new version.. which is very versatile & works for me...

  2. Markbass raw Octaver is a great pedal.. I'm impressed & swapped my EBS Octabass (which I loved!) for it.. needed a smaller footprint.

I've also had a mooer ensemble queen

...which was ok but didn't really stand up to a boss CEB 3 ...also a mooer envelope, which was reasonable.. but not very versatile.. the sweeper by mooer, has more character in my humble opinion..but not a conventional envelope filter..

xotic sp compressor is great.. I replaced an EBS multicomp with the SP and it totally covers my compression needs!..

This looks really cool, and ticks nearly all my bass pedal boxes. A couple of things I notice, assuming the signal runs R to L as we look down on it, you have the filter after the envelope, and the booster after the dirt. I've always run the dirt into the filter, and the boost into the dirt.

Interested to know your thinking behind this set up.

Interesting comment!.. over the years I have tried many different ways of pedal order.. it does tend to be subjective despite the various standard defaults.. for quite a while I went: envelope>compressor>octaver>dirt> chorus .. thinking that the envelope filter needed to do its thing before taming it with compression.. I've gone back to compressor first recently, I have it set pretty mild.. the signal into the Octaver is stable.. envelope after seems to work well.. I rarely use the B3K & RC booster at the same time but now you have mentioned it I will try swapping them around!.. my thoughts were dirt sound then plus with a boost.. dirt into filter, for me is too aggressive.. but I have an add on board, that I use for more experimental situations.. with another envelope filter  after a colorsound fuzz & Ibanez phathed overdrive!.... Some different sounds there!

  4. Latest small board version.. I tried to skimp on sound quality because I needed to fit many on a small board.. I had a mooer envelope filter, which isn't bad.. but just had one sound that took constant vigilance to dial in right! Adding the early Xmas prezzie to me! ...EBS IQ blue label has completed this set up 😊....small but perfectly formed!

  6. My favourites so far.

Kimbara fuzz box (fuzz face clone)

Colorsound tonebender (adapted by an electronics genius, that I was in a band with, to be massively bass friendly!)

Ibanez PD7 phat-hed overdrive (noisy but very versatile) ...Microtubes B3K..my current weapon of choice!... Love it!

  7. Recently bought an Ernie Ball microfiber cloth and on the back there is a warning saying that it may cause cancer and 'reproductive harm' ... WTF!!!

Is California particularly hypersensitive to whatever chemicals are used to make a guitar cloth!?.. or should we all be worried!?

Why are there chemical used in the process of cloth making that could cause these kind of harms??

  8. So... I've honed it down to suit most situations.. pedalboard mini is my mostly live board .. pedaltrain 1 can be added to enhance the situation for more 'fringe' projects! .. (maybe I would shift the chorus to be before the delay but actually, it works great as it is, don't think I will have all on at the same time!? ... or maybe!!? 🤔🤡😬😉😊

I do like the Xotic stuff, after trying all sorts I've got an RC and a BB for boost and drive, they are there the ones that work for me in the mix. I'll have to check the SP out.

I really like the SP comp... it's transparent but warm.. I only have it in subtle.. but it does the job! 🙂

How do you find the Makbass octaver?  Is it an OC2 clone?

Not a clone no... (Or maybe it is!)

I was used to using the ebs octabass, which I loved.. & that is a formidable octaver..

oc2 has great tone but have to be careful with tracking.. especially going lower.. the octabass was much more stable, slightly different vibe but worked for me.. markbass raw series octaver, was a bit of a risk.. I wanted something familiar but with a smaller footprint..so bought it because of the online promo, which sounded good.. now, after a couple of years of live use,  I can say that I really like it.

slightly different again,  but very stable and it works for me for what I need.. tiny footprint.. quite versatile for a 2 knob pedal! 🙂.. warm too.. which was what I liked about oc2!

     Markbass raw octaver

    Oc2 clone shootout!

  11. Here I go again!.. but I am actually really happy with this set up . Needing a small footprint board for live work.. I struggled to find tiny envelope followers, compressors, octavers.. really like the xotic sp comp, does everything I need it to.. I've gone back to boss bass chorus & dod envelope filter.. they just work for me.. amazing what you can fit on a pedaltrain mini!

  12. Not talking about the obvious here..Jaco, Stanley, Marcus etc.. but who flicked your bass switch.....that isn't so we'll known?

    For me..

    Lemmy
    Lothar Meid
    Percy Jones
    Mike Howlett
    Meshell Ndegeocello
    Pino Palladino
    Bernard Edwards
    Aron Hodek
    Ellen Alaverdyan
    Philippe Bussonnet...

yes I know  Pino is well known... But I first heard him with Gary Newman..blew me away!

Bernard also. . so appreciate his ways since Chic go out with that guy who overplays on everything!

  13. I don't know why.. but I love looking at peoples pedals!.. some of the boards on here are fabulous! ...I have owned a lot of pedals over the years & had some rediculous massive boards in the past that were, to be honest, more than required for the job in hand!

But I love it!... Here is my simple small current set up.. again (prolly posted before!) With all the lights on!
