  1. I would credit Jamerson with introducing jazz sensibilities to popular music of the time. All the non-diatonic, chromatic, rhythmically complex bass parts were a bolt out of the blue. Berry basically gave Jamerson free reign, some of those pieces are concertos for bass. Sometimes he was the tune...

  2. Marks & Spencer. I returned my third pair of underpants last week for fraying and thinning after a mere three years of service. I explained that they were treated with due care, they get washed once a month whether they need it or not.

They were happy to help, I've never witnessed such rapidity in service, I was out of there in no time at all.

    Total Dolby fan here…

Downtempo track but as bass parts go, I've always liked this one from Cruel. I can only assume that the double bass part was composed by Dolby, and Seligman plays fretless later in the track. It's a written bass part, non-repetitive which means transcribing the whole thing. Some of the timings are nice.

I love taking 80's and early House synth bass lines to pieces and playing them- yes, a different approach, and an education for me, anyway.  🙂

When you get a bit of spare time, take a listen to Rick Astley's Never Going to Give You Up  - this has the mother of all synth basslines

It's a proper bass part, and one I don't think would come naturally to a bassist.

I think Freddie came up with this line, fun to play along with but quite tricky:
