Wow, looks great. I'd love to hear sound clips and see a price at some point!
Thanks Mike i'll get round to soundclips eventually.
I started making these because i always fancied playing/building one and had a nice plank of mahogany in the shed.
Now, i never get round to playing it because i've sinced gathered another spare plank so ......
Not really my intention to go into full scale production so i should have something available
for sale by the end of summer..ish.

Thanks Mikey yes it is all done by hand using a tenon saw and a gouge....
Hi Ian!!!
Looks fantastic mate - it looks as though it will exhibit a lovely deep tone with excellent `swell' to the notes! That pickup looks very potent - whats it made from (housing)
Cheers - and great to hear from you - can you believe E Basses is ten years old now!!!
Nick
Hiya Nick,
Thanks, sounds like its going to be real growler.
Pickup is Neodymium cast in Epoxy.
Bloody 'ell a decade ago ...scary !

Hello Faith,
Interesting design, did it start off with pickups? -
Found this on ebay yesterday.
Wandre SwedenBass from the sixties.
Could see myself turning up at a gig with this in the back of my Sunbeam Alpine ....
-
Second the hmmmm.
That said...they dont cost much.
I could barely buy the hardware alone for that price in the UK, and you get a nice brass door hinge thrown in ! -
Nice one Gareth,
As a long time BG player (like me) , how are you finding adopting to the Left Hand Technique?
IanM -
Nice one .
I'd be on to them to have a good clear out ..... in case theres any more lurking in a cupboard !
Well after hankering after a Double Bass, I managed to get hold of a battered one from my local education authority FOC, the bass was about to be chucked as "uneconomical to repair"
So I've taken it to a respected specialist who is going to repair and refurb the bass for £300. Once done he reckons it'll be worth £900....hooray!
He thinks it's a solid wood Romanian Built 3/4 bass circa 1970's, neck, bridge and strings are fine, needs re-glueing and varnishing but should come up a treat. I want some battle scars left on it but it will be a thing of beauty I am sure.
I am really excited to get this baby back once it's been sorted.
Just thought I'd share my news!!!
-
Missed it !
Betsy !! Waaaaaahhhh!
I bought this bass from Steve Stroud and like Nick I should never have parted with it.
...GUTTED! -
Thank you ...
The scroll/pegbox is hand carved using gouges and chisels.
Cant really add much more than that, mark the wood from a template and start whittlin' .
Blimey - that's one mother of a break angle!!
Very nice piece of wood - is it solid or have you got an acoustic chamber in there?
Lovely piece of English walnut, the backs even nicer.
Yes its semi - hollow to keep the weight down. -
Thank you
FB was imported from China.
Its very good quality, I was pleasantly surprised.
Good dense straight grain, Gabon Ebony i think.
IanM -
Cheers Nick !
Great to hear from you after all these years!
