I keep finding such good uses for it (Goncalo Alves) !!
A much under-rated hardwood imho.
Update ..
Had a little burr left so decided to go the full hog with pup covers , well ...in for a penny.

Thanks chaps :-)
Got some more time today so ...finished the neck off .
Then routed the neck pocket .
Getting there ;-) -
Slow Progres ....
Not a lot of time for this at the moment but im plodding along ...
Cut the slots and bound an ebony fb with Flamed Maple ..
Changed the neck completely ... It now has walnut in the middle, Goncalo Alves then Br Mahogany on the edges.
Had to see the final effect of all the veneering ...
Machines are sunk in.
Back ..
forearm cut ..

Looking forward to seeing this :-)

All native wood too, well the body anyway.
Swithering on changing to a plain ebony fb now though to tone it down a tad, the elm and Galves together is maybe a bit busy.
we'll see ...

Shep
Nope, not yet....
Its for my own use so no great rush, i'll miss having it around though.
Busy starting a wee BG project which i'll probably end up doing first.
I'll post some pics when its done

Also David Dyke at http://www.luthierssupplies.co.uk.
The quality of the Chinese ones are a bit hit and miss TBH, usually come in at around £80 inc P&P.

Thanks for all the kind comments
It will look nicer when it's lacquered... have to warm up a bit first though ...could be a while !

I did get a couple of GA boards from ebay as it happens.'
Didnt get it for anything in particular at the time, but after feeling the weight and sawing it i thought..fingerboard!
Its a bit heavy to use as much else, works much like rosewood i felt..

Rattled together a stand (In between snow showers!) from some MDF.
Works well enough
-
Looks and sounds fantastic .congrats !
-
Thanks folks
Long -- I do a full scale drawing first then work from that. Dont just look at them bits of wood ... get whittlin'
I'll add some better photos once its lacquered but its a bit cold out in the shed for this at the mo'.
Working on a stand now. Im going to try and do something the bass can sit in and be raised up to playing height, i dont fancy the solution of screwing on a backplate arrangement to fix direct to a stand. Dunno though see how this goes first...

Got some strings on, was dying to try this out....... especially the goncalo alves FB.
Must say its absolutely sweet No unwanted buzzes !
The shorter scale length (38") feels much more comfortable for me, the 42" scale is a bit of a fight by comparison.
Coming from an electric bass background this is a much easier transition to the upright.
Tried the transducer under the bridge too and it sounds fantastic (much better than i thought it might)
Pretty happy all round.
Just got to lacquer now ....

Always loved Bernie's basses, this will be a beaut!

Hiya Gareth,
Just been finish sanding / scraping lately so it just looks the same TBH just smoother ...so i havent posted any updates.
Will get some time this weekend so i will hopefully get the first coat of sander sealer on.
Waiting on a set of 1/2 scale DB strings before I drill the body holes just to make sure I get them in the correct position.

Bridge cut out and fitted.
Used some rosewood (it will be shorter once the bass is setup)
Install the transducer next.

Yes its nice.... wee bit different

Cheers Gareth
