1. Sold Pending the Usual In Process Thanks for the Interest
2. PM returned Old slapper. And thanks for the comment whynot. I agree about the tone. According to Alan it is down to his treament of materials that transmits the sound better than wood. He's a genuine boffin. He's just down the trainline from me near Whitstable. Adrian
3. Bassix Newtech For Sale £650. A superbly sounding EUB. Bought from Alan at Bassix and made by his own fair hand. A mixture of Carbon Fibre and Fibreglass. Piezo ceramics. Great sounding straight into my Genz Benz. Even better through a Marbass. Lowish action. Mixture of strings, Patricks and Spiro Weichs. Comes with a Steinberger bag and a stand both bought seperately. Total when new around £1100. Adi
4.
Hope to get over to you soon to play it Adi, waiting for as reply as to when's good for you? Cheers Chris
Sold pending the usual
5. By way of a bump this is still available and can't be beat for tone, condition and value. No pickup, no bag, quality bow included. Easy action. Spiro Reds, new bridge.
6. Very kind of you joshj and it gives me the excuse to give it a nudge. It is definitely quality ply by the way. I've been playing it more recently, isn't that always the way. Adi
7.
Yep, but it also looks painted on the edge so again hard to tell. Is there a luthier around you that you can take it to for a definite answer?
No transport mate. I think someone will have to come round if they're interested. Unless someone on this site with an experienced eye and knowledge can confirm either way. Which is preferable though? Carved or Laminate. It seems to be an ongoing debate. It's a quality instrument and ticks the boxes for someone buying for the first time. Way better than any new bass at this price.
8. I have the New Tech and I too live near Alan. He builds them from scratch and the sound is as authentic as you can get. Probably even more authentic with the larger sound box. He sets them up for you. A genuine boffin whose very helpful. In my opinion the New tech sounds better than the Steinberger and the Yamaha, mainly because Alan doesn't use wood. It's his own secret blend. Adi
9. Hi TPJ I'm going on the third pic, the cut of the f hole which is bare wood, see the ridges? Adi
10. Price Drop Now £700 !!! What's the verdict on the Carved/Laminate question?
11. By the way I will repeat that it's in remarkable condition, and in my inexperienced hands has a great tone, play the soundfile. Cheers guys I'm off to YE pub Adi
12. I checked the front F holes and it looks like ply to me, which is laminate, correct? Is there a definitive thing to look for? Adi
13. Hi There I've just reposted my B&H. Adi

17. Just wanted to add that the soundfile is an acoustic recording using a cheapish Behringer mike through a cheapish Xenyx mixer into Vegas Pro. Very little EQ. This bass really does project. And as I mentioned before, together with the Markbass 121P you would want for nothing. Odd thing to say? Not really. I spent much time reading posts and thinking of the alternatives, especially with the bass. It ticked the boxes and was worth the effort. There is no cheap way to to get a good sound. You'll always need them setup and then there's the strings. I've taken care of that saving the next owner much time and hair. I'll be taking quite a hit for the luxury of satisfying my curiosity. I'm flexible on price, especially for both items. I've left it a bit late to learn this insturment. It gets to my back more than anything else. On top of that a serious gigging situation fell through last year and in my despondance I've turned my attention to solo Bass Shoegaze loopy loop. Adi
18.
Nice... where is it?
Hi Playbass, I'm in Margate Kent. I'm hoping for Cash pickup arrangment. Help with journey expenses and lunch Adi
19. THIS ITEM HAS BEEN SOLD MANY THANKS SLOBLUESLINE AND BASSCHAT As promised here is my Markbass CMD 121P For Sale. It has one month left on the warranty. Bought from Absolute. Gigged folk gig once. Perfect as new condition. Still with box and paperwork. Reluctant sale but I need to use Trains so I 'm going Genz Benz route. You know the score with these. 250 watts. 500 watts with extension cab. Add a Bergy for awsome tone. Great for EUB and DB. PRICE £600
20. This item has sold. Thanks Beedster. Hi Basschatters. with reluctance I'm selling an upright that I bought around 10 months ago. It's a Boosey and Hawkes made in Czechoslovakia around 1980 ish. Label inside. It's a laminate umberish brown. New Spiro Reds. New Bridge. It came to life when those changes were made by my own fair hand. Hope the sound file works. I will include a proper bow, it's Brazilian wood I think. I will also include Ed Friedlands exellent DVD Tutor. I can perhaps work in a shadow SH950 if your price is right. Unfortunately there is no bag. There's hardly a mark on this bass and I guess it will keep it's value. I'm in Margate. Cash pickup only. PRICE £850 Also selling Markbass CMD 121P, SEE amp section. A special deal if you buy both since these two are an awsome combination for gigging. Reason for sale? I'm having a bespoke fretless made and I'm persuing the solo bass route via Public Transport. I'm green me.

23.
B+H never made any string instruments as far as I know, just imported. Golden Strads were Hungarian made, and (I believe) all solid top. More like 1960s / 70s though. The other common model from that time was the Excelsior (a name they applied to many student instruments, brass and woodwind), at least some of them being Czech made under the Artia label, coming from the Luby factory that now make Strunal basses. I've owned both models, and still play the Excelsior. Both lovely sounding basses. This 400 looks most like an Excelsior type. But it's more recent. Still, likely it is Czech made, possible even from same factory as the earlier Excelsiors. Which would essentially make it a Strunal bass. Sort of.
Wow thanks Paul. The label inside says B&H Made in Czechoslovakia. I feel re-assured that it's worth some work on the bridge and soundpost and I'll put some Spiro Reds on to start. Thanks again.
