4. Hello, I'm getting married this August and we really want a band to play at our wedding! It's being held in Kenilworth in a big Victorian Hall, its all organised by us and we're just wanting a big party - we aint into all that hotel wedding bullshit ANYWAY I thought this would be a good place to put out some feelers for guys in bands or for those who could recommend a band to us! Ideally they'd be able to play everything from The Beatles to Saxon lol but somewhere inbetween would be be OK. We would also be interested in using your PA for the music whilst you are not playing. So please get back to me either on here or a PM Cheers!!
5.
I stand corrected.... was told in the shop, no amps....
couldn't you just buy one of those cheapo plastic kazoo's on the counter and say the bass amp is for that??
6.
Beware of this. Very good if you want an instrument, but you can't buy amps and suchlike on it.
not entirely true, but you can buy associated goods with an instrument. Just thought it looked like a good idea rather than saving up for several months Eligible items Take it away, what you can and cannot buy Take it away loans are designed to assist individuals with the purchase of new or reconditioned musical instruments. However the following associated goods and services may be included as part of the loan, provided that these items are purchased at the same time as the instrument itself and can be supplied by the retailer at the point of sale. * Drum heads * Drum sticks/brushes * Effects pedals * Instrument amplifiers * Instrument cases * Instrument cleaning materials * Leads * Metronomes * Mouthpieces * Music/instrument stands * Mutes * Plectrums * Reeds * Rosin * Sheet music * Shoulder rests * Silencers * Stools * Straps * Strings * Tuition * Tuners
7. Just noticed this scheme - Take It Away run by the arts council. It looks pretty good to me, up to £2,000 interest free loan over 9 months, starting off with a 10%deposit. Think I might do this later in the year, will get rid of the waiting to save up for some new toys! I've only just seen this scheme advertised so sorry if this a double post as I can't find any info on old the scheme actually is, but looks like it is still running.

9. PM'd and Spinal Tap are easy within my top 5 favourite bands
10. What sort of thing did you have in mind? I live in Sheffield and wouldn't mind doing something totally different. Have you got a drummer already lined up?
11. Hello! My band The Bedford Incident are in the process of organising a tour of sorts across England and Wales. We have our soon to be finished and released album to promote and also our appearance on a New Order Tribute Album. If anyone here on Basschat is interested in either putting us on or arranging a gig swap (we are based in Sheffield) then please get in touch! Please take a look at out myspace THE BEDFORD INCIDENT Brief band biog: Hailing from Sheffield The Bedford Incident draw on a cosmos of diverse influences. Fusing together the energy of guitars, bass and drums, with science fictionesque synthesisers, sharp-witted lyrics and heartfelt orchestration; this five piece create uplifting, out of this world sounds, aptly once reviewed as "sounding like Jarvis Cocker fronting The Flaming Lips", and “writing the best songs coming out of Sheffield right now”. Over the past 18 months Jamie (vocals & guitar), Kirsty (guitar), Laura, (keyboard & vocals), Alex (bass) and Stephen (drums) have been busy honing their spirited and memorable live act throughout the North of England and further a field, including a performance for Alan McGee at his famous London club night Death Disco, culminating with a live session for BBC Radio. Jamie and his fellow cosmonauts have been forging “Joyland” The Bedford Incident’s new album to be released on Sci-Fi Records and setting course to play through the UK to promote it. As well as their own album they are also being featured on US label 24 Hour Service Station’s release “Ceremony: A New Order Tribute” featuring; The Cloud Room, Detachments and many more to be released February 2010.
12. I'd tell the band leader and then let him tell the others, easiest way to do it. I can't imagine ringing several people up all to tell them I've quit the band, it would become tedious by the last member and all would be just weird awkward conversations. Ring the leader up, tell him you want out and let them know that you'll play any remaining gigs with them (if you want to). Best to have a plan and make the points you want to get across else the guy on the other end of the phone could end up going on and and on!
13.
It's worth listening to if he's got it. Also worth reading for the sleeve notes by Tony Wilson. There was another tribute compilation done by a load of British bands awhile ago, but it wasn't half as good as the aforementioned US version.
I'll see if he has that one too, I like good tribute albums, stripping a song right down then building it back up. Ever since we did it I've been thinking of alsorts we could do One thing I forget to mention is that the vast majority of profits from this tribute are going to the Tony Wilson fund to support young musicians.
14. Cheers Jerry - glad you liked it! I think this one is mostly US based artists, but there's a few of us from the UK. No I haven't heard that one, our singer probably has as he's a HUGE Joy Division/New Order fan - I'll see if he has a copy.
15. Hello! We're playing at The Plug, Sheffield - 25th Feb 2010. Maybe some of you Yorkshire basschatters can make it? It's out biggest gig for a while, so would be nice to get a good crowd in. We're supporting The Ex-lovers on part of their UK tour. If you'd like a ticket, please get in touch with me on here as they're cheaper through the band! 16. Hi again, Just an update on the New Order Tribute CD I'm doing with my band - The Bedford Incident. It's coming out early Feb in the US (I think it's also being released in the UK/Europe. You can pre order it here; from Amazon We've contributed the track "As it is, When it was" and have been selected to go on the physical 2CD album, 1st track on CD2 which I'm quite chuffed with, and we also did a cover of 'Ceremony' which is available through them as a digital download album. But if you don't want to buy it, you can listen to it on our myspace page THE BEDFORD INCIDENT
17. Hi everyone! Just thought I'd post this up, a demo version of our latest track "Siberia" http://www.myspace.com/thebedfordincident its the 1st one on the myspace playlist. Comments would be appreciated, although I already think the bass is slightly too quiet (which we're fixing) Cheers!
18.
I've just finished five weeks' worth of professional pantomime at the Sheffield Lyceum theatre & it's suddenly dawned on me that the daily 120 mile round trip to Sheffield I've been doing since forever & perpetual life in a dark orchestra pit is now at an end and I'm going back to my old life tomorrow morning, instrumental teaching in schools as well as my other professional playing commitments. It's a sort of weird feeling, as I've been doing nothing else but getting up and going to the theatre & coming back to sleep for the last few weeks. (Weather permitting!) The panto was excellent & although Toyah Willcox was the big name, Damian Williams (the new guy on "Are you smarter than a ten year old?") kept us on our toes and laughing our heads off for the whole run as the dame, "Nurse Nellie." The whole crew from Sheffield Theatres and Evolution productions were excellent, apart from the constant problems we had with the sound engineers, but that's to be expected when you put your sound into the hands of incompetent morons, I suppose. The playing new year is looking rosy with a lot of shows in the diary, sixty big band jobs leading to a tv series already booked & a repeat booking for the same band on next year's production at the Lyceum, Peter Pan. Has anyone else got an exciting bass-playing year coming up? Rich.
Rich, I went to see the Panto last Friday. I went with a few friends as one works for Sheffield Theatres we all got free tickets and went to the after show party. I commented several times during the show that I thought the bass player was excellent and so did my friends, so congrats!! Damian Williams is hilarious! Was nice to see Bobby Knut too, he did the 1st panto I saw when I about 4or5! As for my musical new year, my main band is finally getting good supporting acts in the local area in really good venues and we're getting paid, releasing our own album and appearing on a New Order Tribute CD. 2nd band just got together for a jam last night (just me and a drummer) and it went really well, even had someone from the practice room down the hall way come in and comment on the bass sound I was getting

20.
I use the Boss RC-20XL. I like it-it's easy to use,and it's the best practise tool.
easy to use sounds good as I will hopefully be using it in a live setting.
21. and as for Lightning Bolt - I don't think I could ever play like that, so hats off to him for the ability, its definetly not something I could listen to for long periods of time!
22.
Why not have another bass player, one playing a short-scale bass. They can do counter melodies and fill in the middle. Balcro.
Tried that once before and it was OK but didnt really have a clue what to do back then, more of just a novelty thing. Thanks for all your comments and suggestions of bands - didn't realise there were that many! Our idea from the outset included different time signitures, time changes, unusual keys, and splitting the signal with and various effects. I think things are going to be pretty doomy - but I do love the idea of getting all funky in places (A bit like at the end of The Devil Rides out by Reverend Bizarre). I wouldn't say I was a virtuoso bass player, but definetly more than a root note plodder, the drummer is pretty talented tho. thanks again.

Loop Pedal

Following on from a recent thread I'm looking into a getting a pedal to do live loops with. I know nothing about loop pedals apart from boss do the RC20... Any recomendations? I think I'll be wanting to record fairly long phrases and loop them - more than a minute in length, maybe 2 or 3. Thanks!
24. I was! I don't know if I mentioned it on here or not tho! Bit out of my price range at the moment sadly - No Wonder its being sold by Music Ground!!
