  1. First gig in 9 months for us, due to singer going on maternity leave, and tot he process of replacing our previous drummer. Post-wedding party at the Traquair village hall, in the Borders not far from Peebles. Lovely little venue, with a sizeable stage and good acoustics. The crowd was also very enthusiastic, danced all night to everything we played.

First proper gig with the PJB suitcase and extension cab. Loved it with the electric bass, but the DB had sound problems of its own. Couldn't get it loud enough on stage, and never had enough time to sort the sound out properly before we had to start. Methinks it's time for a simpler solution - who needs faithful reproduction of the acoustic sound anyway? :)

  2. Phil Jones briefcase for quieter gigs or with good PA, or the suitcase with extension cab for louder ones. I just like the natural transparent tone so much I have sold practically all my other amps and use PJB for both electric and double bass

That's what I'm planning , have it on top of the PA Sub facing myself , It's one of the few foot prints that will sit on the PA subs , I'll have the bass rolled off as only need it to hear top End that I can't clearly hear what is coming out of the PA .

Are you sure it won't fall off the sub? I have had plenty of bad experiences with stuff on top of speakers...

The tone of the briefcase is not particularly bassy and definitely not boomy, especially not close to the amp. You should be fine with fairly plain eq settings.

  4. SOLD

Early 80s bass guitar, branded Kay (nice brass TRC), made in Korea by Cort, so nothing to do with the american Kay of the 60s.

Neck thru construction, PJ pickup configuration, white pickups and skunk stripes for that far eastern look of the late 70s'/early 80s. Plays well, quite bright and slightly metallic sound. Good condition, no major scratches or dings or any other kind of damage. Not messed with, all original as far as I can tell.

I have more pictures if anyone wants more detail.

Straight sale or trade for something interesting. Based in Edinburgh. Will ship at cost.

    £120

  5. Sold Sold Sold

Barefaced compact, 2nd gen, with roqsolid cover. Black grille.

Bought it off a fellow basschatter a couple of years ago, it rarely left the house apart from one gig and a couple of practice sessions. Very good conditions, lack of use dictates sale (i play more double bass these days, and bought a pjb rig).

    £300

Bought it less than two years ago from the bass shop in camden town, used it maybe 10 times, including one gig and maybe three practice sessions.

Sounds like our bands play similar stuff. When somebody asks you; "What sort of band are you?", what do you say?

I say that we play covers of modern songs in a jazz/swing sauce. And that we are not very loud and we have trumpet and double bass. Sold.

  8. Seriously, my band started getting loads more gigs once we dropped the overall volume, I started playing double bass as well as electric, and started doing more jazzy/swingy/folky stuff. We don't call ourselves anything like acoustic, but I can say that we do jazzy/swingy/folky covers...
